Great MOOC platform turned into garbage

When they stopped giving free certificates, and blocked assignments, I thought could be justified - the content was good anyway.
But their platform didn't get any better, in fact the site gets only worse. They had working components, but now:

- Course search is very poor, lots of noise. When I search algorithm courses I see... Deep Learning, which also belongs in Machine Learning. Overlapping categories, seriously?

- Filtering by language works sporadically (sometimes it hangs, sometimes it just doesn't filter)

- Sometimes they even put courses that can't be finished (because of broken assignments) and don't mention technical difficulties - for example Reinforcement Learning course from Advanced ML was impossible to finish for some time, and the only way to find that out was to read reviews and course forum.

It seems like they prefer quantity over quality - there are more courses than ever, they seem to add less-than-great ones, and combined with crappy platform, it only makes finding valuable stuff harder.

It's fine

It's fine - the course quality is good, the price is acceptable, the android app works nicely and at least on my mobile phone, better than some of the competitors (edX, udemy, udacity, cybrary). Also, I enjoy reasonable high quality and that I can wait with the decision about whether or not I want to buy the course certificate - I enjoy that.

Translation, we just are not going to help you and refuse to offer you any assistant

Had problems with enrollment. Coursera flooded me with emails for one month free enrollment with many different courses. I inadvertently used the wrong email they spammed out to me to enroll in the wrong course, my mistake. Opened up chat for support and asked them to correct my mistake so I could take advantage of their promotion, said sorry we can't help you. Said they would follow up in three days, no follow up despite inquiries. Lacks integrity, and credibility.

(01:48:24 AM) Andy: I am afraid Alex that once you use the promo for 1 Specialization, you will no longer be able to enroll with a free month in any of the other Specializations. You can still enroll in other Specializations with a normal free trial (7 days).

Cheaters ruining the grading system and Coursera does nothing about it

First of all, I have been using Coursera for years occassionally, so I do believe one can learn with them. My problem is mainly with people cheating with their works and grading others' work ALL THE TIME.

In the past, I had to reject multiple works as they were just simply copied from the internet; even the names and dates were wrong in them, clearly showing that the source was Github and similar sites, not the students who were suppused to create them.

Even worse, when I do not give maximum points to assignments that do not work at all, then in revenge they give less points to me for work that give the correct results and this can be proven easily. I cannot even talk to the teacher to report this behaviour.

Finally, I am not happy about not being able to get a certificate for a course just because I waited too long to ask for it. They can easily see I have taken it, so why then?

[09/07/2019]
I am trying to cancel my subscription but it just keeps asking me if I am sure I want to do it. I have clicked "Yes" about 10 times by now, but it just keeps doing this. I honestly cannot believe how low Coursera has managed to descend!

Don't EVER use this site

They've robbed me hundreds of dollars. I was pretty sure I canceled the subscription but like many other reviewers have noted, they have access to your credit card and will charge you based on miscellaneous reasons. They will not refund you even on months where you clearly have not used the site. They're a greedy corporation and should be exposed for their horrible policies.

Good courses

Good courses, but absolutely no support, no real person to reach out to either. No way to ask a question, even with so called forum, you are prevented from starting a new thread.

I wish I knew that before I started, so I would sign up for a course somewhere else instead.

Non existing consumer safety, but some good courses.

This review is based on Coursera as a course provider relating to consumer safety, and not the academic quality of the courses. I like some of the courses on Coursera, however it depends on the university/organization responsible for the course. You should know that some course providers offer their own solutions where you take tests and exams. If one of those solutions is out of order, you won’t be compensated either with money or an extension to your Subscription. During a course provided by IBM, their cloud service broke down for a couple of days. I contacted Coursera to get an extension to my subscription according to the days the service was down, but that was not possible according to support. In conclusion you can find some good courses, but Coursera as an organization offers no consumer safety, and if a problem arises you will lose your money.

Highly recommended!

Overall, most courses content are excellent. Coursera's website and app are easy to use. Moreover, all videos have English subtitles which are invaluable for non-English-speaking learners. All courses are totally free if you just want to learn. However, if you're going to pursue a course's certification, then the cost is cheaper compared to other providers such as Udacity, edX, FutureLearn, etc. You can even join online degree programs from top universities around the world.

Coursera's support service is great. I can receive answers after some hours.

Last but not least: They also provide financial aid. That's awesome.

Formerly perfect learning platform…

Formerly perfect learning platform became really terrible, one of the worst ones. The new interface which already exists for a long time is buggy, slow and vague, but they don't fix anything. They removed ability to buy a separate course and now require a subscription. Even then, if you pay and don't manage to finish a course in the term, you basically lose your money. The only good thing there is the content.
