Hey everyone, I'm Neil Patel, and today, I'm going to share seven ways you can increase your e-commerce sales by over 50%.

Tip #1: Focus on one product.

You do not need to be selling millions of products like Amazon to do well.

I met a lady who makes high heels more comfortable selling insoles.

She has one product, and that's it. Do you know how much she makes?

Well into the seven figures per year. You don't need a lot of products to do well.

If you're on Shopify, you can use Oberlo, and that'll help make it, so you don't have to worry about the logistics.

If you're only doing one product, your life becomes so much easier.  Focus on one product that solves a pain point.

#2: Upsell and downsell.

It's easier to get someone who has bought from you once to spend more money with you than it is to get new people to buy from you.

If you're selling insoles that make women's shoes nice and comfortable, your upsell could be a pack of three instead of just one.

That's an easy upsell.

Doing simple things like that will increase your lifetime value, which will open up more possibilities.

#3: Advertise.

Facebook advertising and Google AdWords both work extremely well in e-commerce marketing.

Facebook ads and Google ads are a great way to boost your e-commerce sales, and you if you're not sure where to get started with Facebook ads or Google ads, leave a comment below and I'll answer you, and I'll give you feedback on how to run the perfect Facebook ad campaign or a Google AdWords campaign.

#4: Leverage subscriptions.

Make sure you offer subscription options. For example, if you're selling makeup or lipstick, people are gonna run out of it. The question is just when? So why not give them an option where they can subscribe and continually get new makeup?

If you're using Shopify, you can use a tool called Recharge to make your product a subscription.

#5: Recover abandoned shoppers.

In 2017, roughly 75.6% of shopping carts were abandoned.

So, you need to make them come back and buy.

How do you do that?

Recovering abandonment solutions, such as collecting their emails.

When someone's buying from you, you're probably collecting their name and email first before you're showing the credit card information.

You can do things like exit intent offers, using tools like Hello Bar, where you show them an exit offer saying, hey, thinking about leaving?

Put in your name and email and I'll send you a 10% off coupon or a free shipping coupon.

#6: Optimize your checkout process.

Baymard did a study on checkout pages.

They found when companies optimize their checkout pages, they made an extra 260 billion, that's not million, that's billion with a B, extra dollars.

Don't forget to optimize your checkout process.

The way you do that is by first removing unnecessary fields.

Why would you ask someone for their name and email and address multiple times?

That's unnecessary. Keep it simple.

The other way you can optimize your checkout process is by making it two-step.

#7: Leverage a referral program.

If someone's buying from your e-commerce site, they probably know other people have the same problem and need your solution.

Create a referral program, and you can do this through ReferralCandy.

You can do simple things like, get 20 bucks when you refer someone that also signs up and buys.

The key with a referral program is to incentivize both the person giving the referral and the person accepting the referral.

Follow these seven tips, and you should generate at least 50 plus percent more in sales.

Leave a comment below and say, hey, here's my e-commerce store.

Which one of these tips should I be using first?

I'll respond telling you which one you should do first, second, et cetera, so that way, you're doing the ones first that are gonna create the biggest ROI.

And I can't just tell everyone, hey, go do them in this order, because it varies for each and every single e-commerce site out there.

But if you leave a comment, I'll make sure that I give you a detailed response that'll help you grow faster.

you want to grow your e-commerce site
well you know what the way that you
think you're gonna grow your e-commerce
site isn't the real way to grow hey
everyone i'm neil patel and today i'm
gonna share with you seven ways you can
increase your e-commerce sales by over
50% the first tip I have for you is to
focus on one product yes you do not need
to be selling millions of products like
Amazon to do well I met some lady the
other day and I'm like what do you sell
she's like oh I make high heels more
comfortable I'm like wait why don't
people who buy fancy shoes just make
sure that they're comfortable and she's
like oh no these fashion designers don't
want to make them comfortable and
because they think comfortable shoes
aren't fancy and nice I'm like alright
well I don't really care but she was
smart she came up with the concept of
hey people like Gucci and Prada and
chanel aren't willing to make shoes more
comfortable well I'm gonna sell some
insoles that make it way easier and
nicer for women to walk she had one
product and that's it do you know how
much she makes well into the seven
figures per year you don't need a lot of
products to do well and if you're on
Shopify you can use over lo and that'll
help make it so you don't have to worry
about the logistics if you're only doing
one product your life becomes so much
easier sure you can eventually add more
products but first focus on one product
that solves a pain point if you're just
trying to sell some product cuz you
think it's cool and it doesn't solve a
pain point well you have another thing
that it's gonna end up happening in
which you're not gonna make any sales
you won't see a 50% increase you'll
probably see a 50% decrease compared to
what most people are seeing so make sure
you focus on one product that solves a
real problem and there's not a ton of
other creative or unique solutions out
there my second tip for you is upsell
and down sell the reason I'm saying up
settling down so isn't because I'm
trying to tell you to add 50 products to
your ecommerce store it's because it's
easier to get someone who's bought from
you wants to spend more money with you
than it is to
new people to buy from you so upsell and
down so if you're selling women shoes
that are nice and comfortable right or
you're selling the insoles that makes
women choose nice and comfortable you're
up so it could be a pack of three
instead of just one that's an easy
upsell
doing simple things like that will
increase your lifetime value which will
open up more possibilities and this gets
into my third tip it's advertised
there's Facebook advertising and there's
Google AdWords they both work extremely
well in e-commerce marketing Facebook
advertising is excellent when people
don't know what product or service that
they're going after for example if
you're in the beauty space you can
target everyone on Facebook who's
interested in beauty and show them some
cool new product that they're not
familiar with on the other hand if
you're using Google AdWords and you know
people are looking up for a makeup brush
you can show ads on Google for your
makeup brush and people are looking for
that could see it Facebook ads and both
Google ads are a great way to really
boost your e-commerce sales and if
you're not sure where to get started
with Facebook ads or Google Ads just
leave a comment below and I'll answer
you and I'll give you feedback on how to
run the perfect Facebook ad campaign or
a Google AdWords campaign the fourth tip
I have for you is leverage subscriptions
have you noticed on Amazon they can get
discount if you subscribe to a product
so make sure you offer subscription
options for example if you're selling
makeup or lipstick people are gonna run
out of it the question is just when so
why not give them an option where they
can subscribe and continually get new
makeup why do you think Dollar Shave
Club sold for a billion plus dollars
it's because they did raise their
subscription everyone's already buying
razors why not make it easy and just
automatically deliver them right
subscriptions is huge and if you're
using Shopify which you probably are you
can use a tool called recharge to make
your product a subscription you don't
have to pay some fancy engineers to do
this with you you can just use a simple
tool the fifth tip I have for you is we
covered the band and shoppers do you
know how many people are going to your
shopping cart and abandoning in 2017
roughly 75 points
6% of shopping carts were abandoned that
means if you have a hundred people
adding to your shopping cart
roughly 75 of them are gonna balance and
leave they're not going to come back and
they're not going to buy so you need to
come back or more so you need to make
them come back and buy how do you do
that recovering abandonment solutions
such as collecting their emails so when
someone's buying from you you're
probably collecting their name and email
first before you're showing the credit
card information for all the people you
collect the name and emails for that
don't finish the purchase you should be
emailing them and convincing them hey by
now you can even do things like exit and
town offers using tools like hello
Barbara show my exit offer saying hey
thinking about leaving put in your name
and email and I'll send you a 10% off
coupon or a free shipping coupon tip
number six optimize your checkout
process there's a company called Bay
Mart and they did a study looking at
everyone's checkout pages do you know
how much money's recovered by optimizing
these checkout pages I know this sounds
crazy you think that someone adds up to
the car that they're gonna buy but what
they found is when companies optimize
their checkout pages they found that
they made an extra 260 billion that's
not million that's billion with the be
extra dollars don't forget to optimize
your checkout process and the way you do
that is by first removing unnecessary
fields why would you ask someone for
their name and email and address
multiple times that's unnecessary
keep it simple the other way you can
optimize your checkout process is by
making it two-step psychologically you
would think oh it's more convenient for
everyone to just have all the fields on
one page no it's not because if they see
1020 fields on one page what's gonna
happen they're gonna be like this is way
too overwhelming but if the first page
just said putting your name and email or
create a count putting your name or
email and password and then on the
checkout page they only showed the
remaining credit card and shipping
fields you're much more likely to
increase your sales roughly by 10
percent all by making your checkout page
two steps in
once up the last tip I have for you is
to leverage a referral program if
someone's buying from your e-commerce
site they probably know other people
have the same problem and need your
solution so create a referral program
and you can do this through referral
candy it's a simple tool app that makes
it so you can have a referral program
and you can do simple things like you
get 20 bucks when you refer someone that
also signs up and buys so that way you
both save twenty dollars or ten dollars
or ten percent off or free shipping or
whatever and maybe you can pick the
incentive that you're giving to people
who refer people and for the people who
sign up through the referral program so
the key with the referral program is not
to just incentivize a person who's doing
the referring it's also to incentivize
the person who's accepting the referral
look at uber when you use a bursary
Ferol program both parties the person
making the referral and the person
joining both get compensated and that's
why you want to make a referral program
be on both ends or else it won't be
successful follow those seven tips and
you'll do really well with your
ecommerce site and you should generate
at least fifty plus percent more in
sales now those are a lot of tips and
you're probably wondering which one you
should be doing first leave a comment
below and just say hey here's my
ecommerce store which one of these tips
should I be using first and I'll respond
telling you which one you should do
first second etc so that way you're
doing the ones first that are gonna
create the biggest ROI and I can't just
tell everyone hey go do them in this
order because it varies for each and
every single ecommerce site out there
but if you leave a comment I'll make
sure that I give you a detailed response
that will help you grow faster
