Jason Miles started his
woodshop, Wayward Grain, in 2016. He specializes in glass river tables that are
inspired by geographical features like rivers, oceans, and lakes. Miles sources
his locally harvested timber from small family-run businesses. His designs are
a rustic take on contemporary furniture for modern homes.

I've been working with my
hands my whole
life and so we're agreeing
for me was
the ultimate expression of
everything
that I've been passionate
about over the
years
so some people think that
my tables are
based off of maps and it's
only
partially true what I'll do
is I'll work
with the clients I'll find
a feature
that's near and dear to
them like a bend
in a river or something
like that and
I'll work to incorporate it
into my
designs but for the most
part it's more
of an artistic
representation anything
I will follow the live edge
of the wood
and in doing so it makes a
sort of a
natural landscape so
whether it's a
river or a lake or an ocean
and so when
people look at the tables
they're able
to sort of immerse
themselves more into
the piece I can kind of
imagine it as a
landscape and really
appreciate all the
little details that it has
to show

Michael with all of my
designs is to
create contemporary aesthetic
that will
fit into a modern-day home
but to also
combine the qualities the
nuance the
character of rustic
furniture and
live-edge will
