okay so today I'm going to
be making a
solution that will H Delrin
plastic
acetal plastic so that it
can be glued
or maybe painted or coated
with
something
the Delrin by itself is so
slippery that
the coatings won't really
stick to it so
I'm going to start off here
and I found
this formula for an etchant
which is
sulfuric acid based on the
net and I'll
post a link okay so we're
going to
measure out 40 grams of
water
be good
okay 25 grams of potassium
dichromate
okay so the solubility on
that going to
need a lot of stirring
there and I might
have to add some more water
to make that
work in the meantime let's
open up this
sulfuric acid ensue got it
here okay
this stuff claims that it's
virgin
sulfuric acid so get a look
here and see
what they've got
Oh actually put on some

kind of a funny-looking CEO

Hey measure out 500 grams
of this acid
take a look at it here yeah
so not the
purest stuff around
hardly a virgin sulfuric
acid although I
think it's going to do just
fine
all right I'm going to
start adding the
assault Furyk here
and it's going to release a
lot of heat
of course so you get at it
slowly
okay so in order to get
this show on the
road here I put the mixing
jar here in
an ice bath okay so we've
got this thing
cooled down now I'm using a
Teflon stir
stick and you can get a
picture this I
think most of the colors
from the
impurities that were in
that drain
opener stuff all right
after this things
cooled down we'll try it
out on some
Delrin
now here we're going to try
out the
edging solution so I've got
three strips
of very thin white Delrin
and three
strips of a little bit
thicker than 16
thin this is a 30 second
black dollar
and so I'm going to put one
in first and
see what happens
I can see some sort of a
reaction taking
place there's some bubbles
coming to the
surface in fact it's a
little more
vigorous than I was even
guessing kind
of see something that's
happening here
alright let's see we've got
already
well as you can see does
make quite a
difference
that is etched
