sharp Osment began
with my father tom
manager in 2003 but
its roots go back a
lot further than that
tom was a kid he
was an avid coin and
stamp collector
that's for two the
first time
Tom read the Lord of
the Rings there was
one mention of coins
and a whole book it
was when the hobbits
bought build a pony
for twelve silver
pennies and this
question got stuck in
his head what
would those silver
pennies look like one
day he stumbled across
an antique coin
press in someone's
garage in Ohio and he
realized that he could
answer this
question what are
those coins look like
so he bought the press
and he brought it
home to Arkansas and
he set out to make
a coin first coin that
Tom made for
George RR Martin's A
Song of Ice and
Fire series with the
Robert Baratheon
star through the
popularity of those
coins we caught the
eyes of a few
authors

since then Tom had
been able to leave
his jobs and focus on
Sharples mid
full-time
[Music]
he asked my mom Peggy
Mary and her to
come on and help with
finances
he asked my brother
woody manager to
come help out in the
shop if he came
clear that would he
had a knack for
engraving

a lot of the things
that we think about
when we design a coin
of course in world
who's important who
gets their face on
the coin what does the
text say is it in
a different language
we've used
techniques that are
the same as the
techniques used to
make ranking coins
because we don't want
to replicate the
look of modern coins
we want to
replicate the look of
ancient coins made
by people who didn't
quite know what the
best techniques were
and we're kind of
figuring out how to
make all this stuff
along the way

we've got a few people
see our coins and
look kind of confused
and one person
said we I thought this
was just a story
these coins are real
and we're not
trying to trick people
but if it's just
really lovely to make
something so I've
been taking so Amerson
that you just
lose yourself

a language of coins I
am the entire
globe paper money is
different languages
they're different
cultures are different
but pretty much
everybody has coins if
you look at a coin you
understand even
if you don't know what
the language is
you know that whatever
is on that coin
is important it's
important enough to
put it in metal and
that is a level of
importance that not
many people get to
