First test with eBay x-ray tube--- make money online

First test with eBay x-ray tube--- make money online
I found an X-ray tube on eBay and fired it up with my Spellman high voltage supply. I ran the tube at about 35-40KV at 180uA. This required a filament current of about 1.5A at 2.5V DC.  With the room very dark, I could clearly see the phosphorescent screen glowing green. It wasn't bright enough for my eye to discern details in the X-ray images, but the camera with a 4 second exposure at f/5.6 and ISO400 was perfect. I took some pictures of various electronic components. I also X-rayed a dead, dried-up bumble bee, and it produced no image at all! The X-rays completely
penetrated the insect without any visible absorption. I should have turned down the anode voltage, but I didn't think of this until after I threw away the bee.
The tube is a Nago GFH2-0.3-85-60
hey everyone I wanted to show you my
first experiments with x-rays so I was
finally able to get an x-ray tube off
eBay in there it's a an eggo tube I'll
put the details in the description and I
have a lead plate curved around the
backside of the tube and a piece of
aluminum foil over the front so the lead
is obviously to keep the x-rays from
coming out this side because I'm going
to be standing on this side of it and
the aluminum foil is to keep the visible
light inside the tube the filament glows
so brightly that it spoils the image so
that the aluminum foil is just to keep
the screen dark I've got the tube hooked
up to my Spellman high voltage power
supply and what I do is just run the
voltage all the way up and the gauge or
the meter tops out at 30 kV and then the
knob turns a couple more turns and so I
would guess that the voltage is
somewhere around 40 kV we just had an
arc over there and as you can see
without the filament hot no current is
flowing so I'll start dialing up the
filament current here oops and we can
hear the Geiger counter getting happy
I've been running it about close to
one-and-a-half amps of filament current
so the tube is now making x-rays and we
have an emission current of Sturgess i
of 180 micro amps at maybe 30 to 40 kV
and you can see that the Geiger counter
is back here where the camera was and
it's picking up quite a bit there's no
point in me showing you the fluorescent
screen in movie mode Alta take still
photos
you
so there isn't a line of sight path from
the tungsten target inside the x-ray
tube to where I'm standing or where the
Geiger counter is I suspect most of the
x-ray stray radiation is coming out from
this area here so there's probably a lot
of bouncing around it's going in there
and some x-rays are actually making it
out the back of the tube so my next you
know project is to build an actual
enclosure for the thing with proper lead
shielding all the way around in just a
small aperture all right see you next
