the majority of the
decorative tile we
make are made in the Porta
Seca or
dryline style it's a
time-honored
tradition of tile making
with roots in
the Middle East and Spain
and we have
been tweaking it and
working with it
just to perfect our
particular taste and
style

handmade tiles are not very
common today
there are only a few
companies in the
United States that still
even make tile
in this manner so one of
the reasons
that we IKEA tiles still
use this
technique and insist on
hand painting
each tile is truly because
we enjoy
making something useful
beautiful and
utterly unique for our
customers we love
being a part of the makers
movement and
appreciate the challenge
and hand
painting each tile

one thing I love about
working here is
that I get to work with
both my mother
and my grandmother and it's
really fun
having three generations of
tile makers
all working together
