engineer who has recently joined one of the fastest growing startups in his
hometown of Chicago Jack is extremely excited to be working in such an
innovative business but at times finds a workload to be rather overbearing for
Jack working 50 or more hours a week has become the norm and the only thing
keeping him saying are his monthly nights out with his friends he was the
end of a busy work week and Jack counted down the minutes until he could run out
of work and meet up with his friends for a drink Jack was not only excited to see
his friends but he also had tickets to see his favorite band the following day
when jock got home he quickly freshened up and then began walking towards the
bar on his way he ran into his friend Steve who was standing beside his
brand-new pickup truck the two men made their way into the bar feeling the
stress of the week quickly subside after the rest of the group had arrived he
began to share all the updates of their crazy lives Jack's friend Melissa perked
up and said guess what guys I bought a house Melissa then pulled up pictures of
a massive house and everyone congratulated her on purchasing such a
beautiful property as a clock struck midnight Jack and his group of friends
decided to call it a night said their goodbyes and parted ways laying in bed
that night Jack couldn't help but wonder where he had gone wrong in his life it
seemed like all of his friends were buying beautiful homes in expensive cars
and he was still living in a crummy apartment and taking the bus to work he
asked himself if all those years of studying to become a professional
engineer were all for not as even with such an impressive education he was
still living paycheck to paycheck despite all these negative thoughts the
one dream he could never let go of was the dream of owning the house he grew up
beside you see Jack up in a middle-class suburb in Chicago
and beside his childhood home stood one of the most jaw-dropping mansions Jack
had ever seen every day after school Jack walked by this house and was always
in awe of its grandeur and promised himself that one day he would offer his
old neighbor any amount of money to buy the home but at 33 with a little savings
in his bank Jack began to doubt that this dream would ever come true
the next morning Jack jumped out of bed excited that today was the day his
favorite band will be playing in Chicago as Jack was making his breakfast he
checked his phone and there was a text from his boss that said hey Jack we need
you in the office today to meet our deadline come in immediately Chuck
sulked knowing that this meant working a third consecutive weekend and missing
seeing his favorite band the following week chuck was at work plugging away
when his boss demanded everyone to come out to the parking lot as they got to
the parking lot they saw their boss showing off his brand-new sports car to
the rest of the staff he then exclaimed I wanted to thank you all for your hard
work as it has allowed me to buy the car of my dreams chuck could barely contain
his anger as he had been slaving for months with absolutely nothing to show
for it while his boss was driving around in luxury when jock got back to his desk
he googled vacation destinations and in a burst to spontaneity he booked a
one-way ticket to Egypt leaving the next day the following day arrived and Jack
was on a one-way trip to Cairo for a much-needed break Jack had always been
very interested in ancient civilizations so before leaving Chicago he booked a
tour the Great Pyramid of Giza one of the most well known landmarks in Egypt
the next morning Jack woke up early and made his way to the meeting point for
the tour as he arrived he was introduced to his tour guide Kareem
before long Jack Korean and the rest of the tourists were in the middle of the
desert taking in the beautiful scenery of the Great Pyramid of Giza
Jack reveled in its grandeur and then a scream how such a primitive civilization
could have built such an amazing piece of architecture cream began to explain
the success of this magnificent undertaking is due to the
well-thought-out planning of activities that will be performed by numerous
generations of laborers who would eventually complete the structure cream
then said something that's stuck in the mind of Jacque for the rest of the day
with a good plan anything is possible back at the hotel restaurant that night
Jacque ran into an older man who he recognized as having been part of his
tour Jacques walked up to the man and politely introduced himself the man did
the same and said his name was Tom the two men began chatting and Jack couldn't
stop bringing up the beauty of the pyramids he had seen earlier in the day
Tom agreed that the pyramids were quite a work of art and went on to explain
that Egypt was the first destination on his list of places to see after retiring
after hearing this Jack then commented that Tom looked rather young to be
retired Tom often said 52 isn't that young is it
Jack brought a Tom to tell him his secret to retiring early and tom was
happy to share his wisdom with his new friend Tom began to explain that his
ability to retire early was due to leveraging the power of financial
planning he likened his financial plan to the plan of the ancient Egyptians who
harnessed the power of planning to build one of the great architectural wonders
of the world in the Pyramid of Giza Tom explained that at age 25 he knew that he
wanted to devote the second half of his life to traveling the world but to do so
he would have to plan out how he would save enough money to afford living this
lifestyle he went on to explain that as a young adult he had created a 25 year
financial plan that projected his earnings expenses and savings and by
sticking to this plan for more than two decades he was able to realize his dream
of retiring early Tom then inquired as to what Jack's financial goals were and
whether or not he had a plan he could use to achieve them Jack admitted that
he had never even thought of making such a plan and added that his ultimate
financial goal was to buy his old neighbor's home back in Chicago Tom
spoke up and said that's an excellent goal how about we make you a plan right
here and now jack smiled as his goal of owning his neighbor's home seemed more
attainable than ever before over the course of the next few hours with Tom's
help Jack Hoff did a five-year financial plan that would help Jack save up enough
money for a down payment for the home he owned everything from his annual
expenses expect to pay raises and even the cost
of getting married if jock were to find that special someone in the next few
years as the night grew old Tom left his new friend jock with one more important
piece of advice your plan is only as good as how well you adhere to it fast
forward five years in Jack was now working at a much better job for a great
boss and he had met a beautiful woman named Alice to whom we would be married
to in the next couple of months Jack's life was in all aspects better than it
had ever been before but one thing was still missing owning his dream home one
day at work Jack got a call from his parents saying that their old neighbor
Frank had just passed away and that his home is gonna be put up for sale without
hesitation Jack called his wife and before they knew it they were putting in
a bid on the home two weeks later Jack and Alice got a call from the realtor
congratulating them on being the highest bidder for the home jock began to shed
tears of joy as his lifelong dream had been fulfilled
a few weeks later the couple were over at their new home finalizing paperwork
when the doorbell rang when Jack answered the door there was no one there
but on the mat was a card Jack opened up the card and it read I'm glad to see the
