how they're going today guys welcome
back to the channel hope you're having a
great day so far so in this video here
we're gonna be talking about
productivity and what I want to share
with you guys are the five simple steps
that I have taken and implemented in my
own life to pretty much double my
productivity I'm gonna share with you
guys exactly what these are but more
importantly I want to talk about what
can happen when you are not working as
productively as possible and really what
happened for me was I used to work you
know a traditional nine-to-five job and
you would purposefully be wasting time
throughout the day whether it's going
through emails over and over or
socializing with people and what happens
to a lot of people as we develop these
really bad habits and then once we are
working for ourselves we still have a
lot of these time wasting habits because
oftentimes what you're doing is you're
running the clock or looking at the time
and trying to pass the time because
maybe you don't have that much to do and
maybe you're stretching out some of your
tasks you're doing each day but when
you're actually working for yourself
the only time you're getting paid is
when you're actually producing at the
end of the day and if you're not working
as efficiently as possible in wasting
time it's going to be costing you money
and something else I found as well as
that when I'm not operating as
productively as possible I find it's
actually hard to be present with other
people because I'm constantly thinking
about my work I feel overwhelmed I feel
distracted and it's not really a good
mix for me and one of the things I have
fallen into in the past is simply
working for the sake of working which is
not really knowing what to do with your
time so you just spend time working and
all of these things can happen if you
are not working as productively as
possible and this is something that a
lot of entrepreneurs fall into as well
and that is when you don't really know
what to do with your time so you just
work as much as possible and maybe
stretch out tasks or do things
repeatedly for no apparent reason and so
if you notice that you're doing any of
these things that I've mentioned I would
highly recommend getting rid of these
bad behaviors early on before they turn
into habits and then eventually they're
going to be killing your productivity
but here are the five simple steps I
have taken to pretty much double my
productivity and a lot
them have to do with your cell phone
okay number one is to turn off all app
notifications app notifications are the
biggest time waster out there whether
you're getting notifications about news
articles or push notifications from the
game you're playing on your phone which
if you're trying to increase your
productivity that game should be
uninstalled anyways but all these
notifications that you are getting are
just constant distractions especially if
you have ringers on now I keep my phone
on silent at all times and I check my
phone when it's convenient for me and
the only two apps that I get
notifications from our messenger and
phone so if somebody really needs to get
a hold of me they'll call me or text me
but even then I keep my ringer off at
all times some people may not be a fan
of that but that is how I operate and
that is what allows me to be as
productive as possible as I will only
check my phone at set times and that's
going to be number two the second idea
here to increase your productivity is
turn off your ringer turn off all alerts
from your cell phone you can put on
emergency numbers where you know if
somebody calls you they're going to go
through and they're gonna get a ringer
you can turn off the notifications for
everyone else and this is going to
seriously increase your productivity
because you're not going to have all
these constant interruptions and you're
not going to have all these different
notifications throughout the day when
people are texting you or calling you
and what you're going to do is you're
gonna start off by checking your phone
every 15 minutes and I know that you're
saying that sounds easy but it's
honestly a lot easier said than done
because a lot of us are so addicted to
the constant stimulus of picking up our
phone and getting these notifications so
you start off with the 15-minute rule
which means you only check your phone
every 15 minutes and then once you're
able to do that you scale up to 30
minutes and eventually to the point
where you're only checking your phone
every hour and that tends to be where I
fall I'm either between the 30 minutes
to one hour rule there I'm only checking
my phone every 30 minutes or one hour
which is still quite a bit there's not
much that comes up every single day in
fact I can't really think of anything
that comes up that needs my immediate
attention where I'm checking my phone
every 30 minutes or every hour
the reason behind these two things
between turning off the notifications on
your phone as well as not looking at
your phone all the time is because every
time that you distract yourself from
your work it's gonna take you a couple
of minutes to focus back in on what it
is that you are doing one of the
projects I'm working on now is a writing
project and it really requires me to
focus in on my ideas and know what
exactly is going on and be focused in on
one task and I find that if I take a
break from this and go on my phone to
look at text messages or whatever it is
that's on my phone when I come back to
my writing I have no idea where I left
off and I end up reading through the
last two paragraphs just to remember
where I was so every single time that I
distract myself and look at my phone I
have to take you know three to five
minutes to figure out where I was and
continue working so if you're doing this
multiple times a day this could be a
huge productivity killer for you okay
the third idea here or strategy I follow
to boost productivity is to avoid the
time vampires out there and one of the
main ones is these nonsense meetings or
nonsense phone calls that go on
throughout the day or throughout the
week now if you're in a position where
you can set your own phone calls and
meetings that is great but if you work
for somebody and they force you to go
and attend these meetings there's not
really much you can do about that but if
you're somebody who does phone calls and
meetings on a regular basis and you've
been in a situation where you get stuck
on the phone with somebody for 30
minutes or an hour or an hour and a half
and you just can't get them off the
phone I have a very simple solution for
you guys before you get on the phone
with somebody you want to set a clear
agenda about what it is that you're
going to be talking about and second of
all you want to set a clear timeline for
how long you're going to be on the phone
and one of the easiest ways you can do
this is to simply say to somebody hey I
have another appointment at two o'clock
so I can talk to you from 1:30 to 2:00
and even though you don't really have an
appointment by the time 1:55 rolls
around you can start wrapping things up
and getting that person off the phone
and I know that because you're watching
this video you're interested in being
more productive with your time but most
people are not most people are looking
to way
time they're looking to pass the time
you know shoot the if you will
whatever you want to call it and if
you're somebody who's trying to most
efficiently use your time this is going
to be extremely annoying and detrimental
to you being able to be more productive
so you have to have this strategy in
place when dealing with these time
vampires you know jumping on the phone
for these nonsense phone calls or having
all these useless meetings and also
another thing to add to this is
determine whether or not a phone call
even has to be made or a meeting has to
be made maybe you don't even have to do
a phone call you can resolve this or
discuss something over email and maybe
instead of meeting someone in person you
simply just have a phone call instead ok
strategy number four here for increasing
your productivity has to do with this
guy right here and in particular it is
your email this is another area where
people are just killing their
productivity because they are constantly
checking their emails in some cases just
like their phones every five or ten
minutes and some people even have the
dings on their computer when they get an
email and I'm just like why are you
constantly distracting yourself with all
these new notifications and emails I
don't know why everybody believes that
we have to be instantly connected and
instantly respond to everything that
comes our way and something else that
you'll find is when you aren't
responding to text messages every five
minutes and aren't responding to emails
every five minutes you're going to
magically start getting less emails and
less text messages from people because
people are going to realize that you are
not looking to waste your time and maybe
one of your friends is going to be
texting you to shoot the but when
you're not responding to him immediately
he's going to get tired of that and find
somebody else to bother
so by delaying responding to your
messages and emails you're going to find
you're gonna get a lot less of these
nonsense messages in the first place so
you essentially want to take the same
strategy we talked about here for your
phone and apply that to your inbox start
out by checking your email three times a
day maybe it's 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. and
3:00 p.m. and then eventually check it
two times a day and then eventually
maybe you just check your email once a
day in the morning and then you don't
open it up again and again these are
things that are easier said than done
because what you may find is
when you run out of things to do you
start searching for other tasks to do
I'm seriously a victim of this where
whenever I don't have anything to do or
I'm working on at that specific time
I'll start looking for something I'll
start looking for emails or text
messages or going through my social
media and at a certain point you have to
realize this is just killing your
productivity and you shouldn't just go
digging for something else to do
you should lay out your tasks for that
day complete those tasks and when you're
done you're done working and again
obviously if you're working for somebody
else you are stuck working their
schedule and if they want you to sit at
your desk and look busy
that is totally up to them and
unfortunately you have no power over
that but if you're working for yourself
these are seriously going to help you in
terms of your productivity and email is
a huge killer and then number five my
fifth tip for productivity here is
something that I call the five-minute
rule
now I didn't make this up myself I've
heard this from numerous different
people but it's a very simple concept if
something comes up throughout your day
and it's going to take you less than
five minutes to complete that task you
might as well just do it now and this
essentially eliminates procrastination
so if you find out oh I got to send an
email to somebody rather than writing
that down to do it later just take care
of it now and if this task is gonna take
you more than five minutes well then
that is something you might want to
block out some time for later on but
another huge productivity killer for
people is procrastination and thinking
of something oh I got to do that let me
put it off till later and then later
comes oh I still have to do that
I'll put it off to tomorrow not only is
that killing your productivity it's all
so seriously increasing your stress
level and since I implemented this
five-minute rule I found that all of
these little things that I would have to
do throughout the day a lot of them have
just disappeared because I've completed
them and they're not you know building
up over the days or over the weeks and
as soon as something comes up that I
have to do I just go ahead and do it and
if it's gonna take me more than five
minutes I will budget time to do that in
the following day or at some other point
in time but anyways guys that's gonna
wrap up this video these are my five
strategies to double your productivity
let me know what you think down in the
comments section below I'm curious if
you guys have
all these strategies or if you have any
other ideas to you know boost your
productivity but thank you guys so much
