Monday guys hope you guys all had a good
weekend and this video over here
I made breaking down weather websites or
YouTube channels is a better opportunity
with affiliate marketing in 2018 so I'm
going to be analyzing both doing the
kind of pros and cons and showing
examples of both a proper affiliate
website and profitable YouTube channel
so what we're going to go and do is go
into this computer right here as you can
see it's a beautiful day out here in
California so that being said let's go
and hop into that computer and get into
this video alright guys welcome to the
video so in this video we're gonna be
talking about websites versus YouTube
for affiliate marketing 2018 so this is
a requested video so I want to cover
this topic now I'm not an expert on
affiliate websites and I'm actually out
working on building one up into another
niche but I have done a lot of research
and just talked to a lot of people who
make money with them and stuff like that
so I kind of know what I'm talking about
but take this with a grain of salt but I
do know what I'm talking about for
YouTube so but anyways we're gonna just
kind of break this down then I do have
some examples of both like a website
affiliate site and a YouTube channel as
well okay so what we're gonna go ahead
and do is analyze both of them what's
better for affiliate marketing 2018 okay
so affiliate website right so typically
you're doing some type of product review
or some type of comparison of some
products or you're just ranking keywords
around a certain niche and selling like
Clickbank products around that or
something like that so those are the
marketing websites now yes I do know a
lot of people that make money with
affiliate websites they're a really good
thing but basically what you're gonna be
doing is writing articles around
keywords alright so two plates a long
tail a keyword within a certain niche
okay so it could be like organic eye
cream for woman over the age of 60 okay
so that'd be like a long tail keyword of
course you want to see if that gets
searches per month but if that's getting
you know fifty hundred searches per
month that's maybe a article you'd want
to write over
topic and you could potentially rank for
that keyword in Google right so that's
like an example one thing you do is just
kind of write articles around keywords
or problems or even like if the keyword
is blue so blue snowball mic podcast mic
review or something like that so that
could be a keyword you're running around
so it could be physical products it
could be just around problems like how
to lose weight in 2018 for a woman so
that's like a problem versus like a
product review both are profitable both
do them so like so if you're writing
keywords around problems it's usually
like more like Clickbank stuff because
those are more like courses versus like
if you have an Amazon affiliate site
you're running reviews around products
okay so that's kind of how that works
but basically as far as I feel like
websites it's around $20 to get started
all you really need is hosting and then
you can use WordPress so it's pretty
cheap to get started it may even be less
but I just said around 20 that's a fair
price and then also and you might have
to put some money into like backlinking
and social bookmarking and stuff like
that so I'd say around $20 to get
started obviously there could be more it
could be less so anyways the next thing
about philly websites is it usually
takes longer to get traffic organically
now this isn't always but typically does
versus YouTube because YouTube you can
get views like right away just because I
feel like it's less competitive on
YouTube it kind depends on the niche so
typically it'll probably take longer on
a website for you just start getting
organic traffic from what I've heard and
what I've noticed kay so and then also
it takes longer to start and get
everything set up again websites
especially if you're new them WordPress
is always easy and you have to get
hosting you have to write articles you
have to do setup all the SEO stuff
versus a YouTube channel use posting a
video is pretty simple it's really easy
it's like posting on social media
basically so that's kind of the thing
with websites also the one of the
benefits of websites is it could a like
people might see a website as more
authoritative than a YouTube channel
like they might take it more seriously
just because people
usually think like oh not the average
Joe can just make a website but the
average Joe can make a youtube video and
upload it so there they're not as
trustworthy so that's kind of the
mindset some people have again like
everything it's all about kind of
psychology with that but I mean that
kind of makes sense so I could have more
authority than YouTube channel that's
one of the benefits so what we're going
to go and do is we're gonna check out an
example of a propyl and a Philly site
okay so this site is called kitchen
knife guru I'm not affiliated with the
site or anything I just kind of looked
up I just looked up kitchen kitchen
knife review what this guy's doing is
this pretty smart but he's basically an
Amazon affiliate and he has some of his
own products he has like an e-book he
sells for like seven dollars I'm
guessing this is him but basically he
just says knife reviews as you see he
has all these different things like
sharpeners so kitchen knife sharpen the
action plan I think that's an e-book he
sells was a honing steel all the
different knives so best chef knife six
recommendations so as you can see this
is an Amazon affiliate link it takes you
straight to Amazon right here and she's
$111 so he's selling a good price
product so this is actually a good niche
because he's been making decent
Commission's off these and he's he's
just doing some good reviews now how do
I know this site is making any money at
all and so this is one of the things you
want to do as far as in your research so
what you can do is go over to similar
web com okay so this website just
analytics for websites so this is like
one of the most valuable sites out there
as far as doing research I use this tool
a lot and it is free too
but basically you just get the URL of
the website and you paste it into here
and it's gonna give you some analytics
kay so what this is gonna show me is so
you can kind of ignore this stuff but it
shows you kind of some analytics about
how much traffic is getting you know the
bounce rate stuff like that so as you
see 157 157 thousand visits of course
off of those visits he's probably making
some decent money kind of shows where
the traffic is coming from also this is
really valuable so like so maybe but
okay how do you know he's getting
organic traffic if he's ranking for
keywords well
one I looked up kitchen knife reviews
and he was like one of the first sides
up there and then two at number two as
you can see right here 93% of his
traffic is coming from search all right
so that means people are searching in
keywords and it's coming organically
from that 0.55 percent from social none
from mail none from display advertising
a little bit from referrals and some
from direct okay so that's kind of cool
to seek because if you're getting to
some type of niche and maybe you want to
try start ranking for keywords and
you're looking at some site and it's all
from social maybe it's a harder niche to
get organic search traffic from so this
site it's important to just kind of look
at and you could see like it also shows
similar sites and competitors so you can
look at all this different stuff and
gives you more ideas there's like
kitchen knife coms chef knifes calm
precision knife home so you can get all
kinds of ideas so that's why I really
like similarweb calm but yeah this is
basically the site and you know it's
hard to say how much money he makes
exactly I wish there was a tool for that
but I would guess like probably around
3,000 a month maybe less it just depends
if he has a big email list he has some
signups here so it just really depends I
mean it could be 2,000 could be 500 like
who really knows but and also like I'm
not really sure how long he's had this
site too so that's another factor like
if he's had this for 10 years and it
only has one hundred fifty seven
thousand then maybe that's not too well
so it really just depends but but
actually right here it kind of shows the
peak so let's see this says on desktop
of a mobile web in the last six months
so I'm guessing each of these is for the
last six months so that's that's kind of
interesting so it looks like he is
getting some decent traffic every month
so yeah he's probably making a decent
income just off the site and you know
you can build multiple of them and he
can even expand this make this a little
better but yeah so that's a Philly
website so let's go and get to the
YouTube channel part right so YouTube
channel again it's kind of similar with
the website you know you kind of got to
think of your YouTube channel as your
website right so again with YouTube
channels you can do product review
slashing comparison
you can make videos around longtail
keywords again like just like I
explained with a website it's the exact
same thing pretty much and also what's
cool about YouTube it's free to get
started obviously you need a camera but
you know you can always use your phone
so that's one of the cool things about
YouTube you don't have to be a fancy you
want that fancy setup again I didn't
even get this mic till eight months in
with my YouTube channel so it really
like doesn't matter that much so and
then also organic traffic traffic can
happen quicker so like typically the
first video or so will probably not get
any views but it will start to pick up
views after a couple weeks and then
after you make a few videos and you're
obviously got to do this stuff right you
got to rank for keywords and stuff like
that but after a few videos you'll start
to get some more traction and it could
be it could be low it could be less you
just got a rank you've got to make
videos around the right topics and make
engaging videos it's like YouTube a lot
of the factors is about watch time so
you have to really entice the viewers
and give value for them to watch and
just like a affiliate website if you
don't do good product reviews and you
don't show the pros and cons and what's
good about the knife and stuff like that
then you're not gonna get as much
organic traffic because people aren't
gonna stay on the site is long so a lot
of that stuff is the same again Google
owns YouTube so a lot of their
algorithms are very similar right so
also YouTube it's probably you know it's
more simple and easy to get set up and
started so that's one of the good
benefits about YouTube but both of these
are all free traffic methods so it's
really cool and of course you can scale
them up with paid traffic but anyways
with YouTube the only like this benefit
is you have to be somewhat decent on
camera but there are some niches where
you can get away without showing your
face at all so you can just do like
PowerPoint videos and like of course you
don't see my face right now so you could
do something like that really just
depends on that yeah alright but for
example if you're doing knife reviews
maybe you have a picture of the knife so
you don't even have to buy the knife -
you just have a picture and you pull up
and maybe it's kind of like a slideshow
of the night so you can talk about them
put bold points like
next to the knife what's good about them
what's bad about them and maybe you're
comparing two different knives okay so
that's one thing you could do without
showing your face at all it would just
be a voiceover so that's something a lot
of people do if you are uncomfortable
showing your face and sometimes it's
just unnecessary to show your face at
all so but I want to give you guys an
example of a YouTube channel in a
similar niche than the knife review
scale so this this lady is just Emily in
the kitchen but her video is just best
kitchen knives to buy in 2017 alright so
number 10 as you can see she's not
showing her face at all so this is an
example of how you would do this right
so reviewing prices in the description
well it actually looks like she's just
taking commercials and putting them all
into one video so I guess that's kind of
smart it got some decent likes I never
thought of that
I don't know if that's allowed so that's
kind of cool but again like you couldn't
literally just do like pictures like
these like I showed and kind of just do
like different slideshows like that and
kind of do the reviews because some
people are lazy they don't like reading
okay some people like reading some
people don't some people just like
watching video so even it's a video of
you just reading the words like that's
gonna benefit some people versus other
okay so again doesn't have to be all
fancy like that like she just probably
just got commercials and put them all in
one video so I guess that's something
you can do as you can see she's got all
the affiliate links right here these are
all Amazon affiliate links so making
decent money from that I don't know why
has zero comments that's really weird
might be fake views I don't know I just
searched knife reviews a kitchen knife
review so um so that's like a YouTube
channel and those can be really
profitable okay cuz YouTube videos
convert really well with people because
they get more relation and connection
with video so that's something you can
do so the real question is what's better
right that's what you guys are here for
so the lovely answer is both okay so
when you're combining a website and
YouTube channel that's like the best
thing you could do for example if this
website had videos in it comparing like
he's come he's doing your view of this
knife he if he had a video like right
here of showing the knife and talking
about the knife that would be really
beneficial but not only for the user but
also for the algorithms of both his
youtube channel and his website for
example if people if you embed a YouTube
video in like the mill this text if you
embed to your YouTube video people are
watching it that you're bringing outside
traffic to YouTube and it just it helps
your YouTube channel helps your videos
rank for those keywords your ring for if
you're getting like kind of
site traffic from your website and then
to if you had if they had a website kind
of like this one and the YouTube channel
is heat and they're getting traffic from
the YouTube to the website that can be
really beneficial to to help your to
help your website rank for keywords and
stuff like that because you're getting
outside traffic so that's one of the
best things you can do is just kind of
combine both of them now starting out
you may not have enough time or maybe
overwhelming to do both of them so maybe
just start with one and then start to
pick up on another one but that's
probably the best thing I'd recommend is
doing both of them I kind of covered all
the topics but yeah just bring traffic
from your website will help your YouTube
and vice-versa especially when you're
doing a blog post reviewing some
products and you embed your YouTube
video in the middle that works well also
it's gonna crease in conversion rates k
cuz people might not be convinced based
off just reading this but there's also a
video there like okay that's that's
super cool I'm gonna buy it and then
they buy right here you hear the
Commission right so that's kind of how
that works so but that's kind of it for
