all right so I'm not one to toot my own
horn ever in the past but I just want to
say this guys this is probably going to
be the most comprehensive video anyone
has ever done before on how to make
passive income on YouTube so if you're
serious about making passive income and
you want to make $1000 or more a month
from a YouTube channel pay attention
take detailed notes and commit to
watching this whole video because I'm
about to show you guys everything I've
learned over the past couple of years of
experimenting on YouTube and what I've
learned by building a YouTube channel
that consistently pays me five figures a
month I'm gonna walk you guys through
the entire business model all the
different ways I make money and how you
can do this yourself
now before I get into this video guys I
just want to give a quick shout out to
Graham Stephan he's a friend of mine we
talk a lot about YouTube strategy and
our YouTube channels and he just posted
a great video the other day talking
about how much money he makes off his
YouTube channel and if you guys are
looking for some inspiration as far as
like how much money you can actually
make with a successful channel I'm gonna
link his video up in the description
that out just to get inspired and to
have your eyes opened to how you can
actually make a living with a YouTube
channel if you're willing to put the
work in and if that is what you are
looking to do so make sure you guys
check out that video so you can get
motivated and realize that it's actually
possible to make a really good living
having a youtube channel but anyways I
have all of my steps outlined here I
spent the last two or three days really
sitting down looking at my business and
trying to identify everything I did up
until this point building this YouTube
channel that I have and I'm gonna be
sharing that with you guys I have
spreadsheets I have all kinds of stuff
I'm gonna be sharing so it's gonna be
packed with a lot of good information
and let's go ahead and get rolling here
all right the very first step when
building a YouTube channel is to decide
on a niche okay if you're gonna be
somebody who goes out there and says
okay I want to kind of be like an
everything channel I want to cover you
know current events and I also want to
cover we know what I think is funny and
I also want to film videos of my dog
then you know what it's gonna be a great
hobby for you but it's never going to be
a profitable business because nobody's
going to be interested in just a generic
information channel that may have worked
many years ago when YouTube was just
starting out and you could kind of you
know get a foothold as
just kind of being a personality but now
you really need to become an expert in a
certain field and these generic
information channels there that's just
not really gonna work for you anymore so
what I would recommend is that you want
to be very specific the more specific
the better and I can't remember where I
heard this quote before but it's a very
powerful quote the riches are in the
niches so if you're looking to get rich
on YouTube you're gonna want to get into
a niche and niche down as much as
possible so if you're looking to cover a
certain topic make sure you're in a
niche and make sure you become the
expert in that area and you know become
the expert by sharing your information
with others out there on YouTube or
through different methods online and
also incorporating YouTube and so the
other thing with this as well is maybe
you don't want to have a YouTube channel
maybe you want to have a podcast maybe
you want to start a blog maybe you want
to do something else online the same
business model will apply to anything
you're doing with a following online and
so even if you don't want to get in
front of a camera and do YouTube you
should still watch this video just
because it will show you the business
model of having an online business
surrounded around delivering information
to people anyways so what you want to do
as well as make sure you are doing
something you are passionate about okay
you're gonna be having to do this for at
least six months just to start making
any real money if anyone's out there
telling you you're gonna start a YouTube
channel and in one week you're gonna be
making passive income they're absolutely
lying to you and I'm gonna tell you guys
flat-out it's going to take you many
months just to make any significant
amount of money probably six months to a
year before you even see your first
paycheck coming in from YouTube if
you're ready to make that commitment
then you guys can make some serious
income on this platform but you have to
start out with something you're
passionate about because it has to start
as a passion something you enjoy doing
it starts as a hobby and then it becomes
an income source for you potentially for
you know the years going ahead if you
keep going at it and you keep
maintaining this channel that you've
built but the number one mistake I see
people make is not doing something they
are passionate about they're just trying
to take advantage of hype but just
trying to jump on the hype train and the
thing with that is maybe that's going to
be hot for a little while so maybe a
couple of months ago it was the fidgets
Benner's everyone loved the fidgets
spinners that was probably like a year
ago now I'm probably off on that but
whenever fidgets spinners were hot I saw
a lot of people starting to make fidget
spinner YouTube channels and at the time
my youtube channel sucked nobody watched
my channel and I saw these people making
fidget spinner channels and getting ten
or twenty thousand subscribers overnight
or when people were just learning about
uber there were a lot of people making
uber related channels talking about you
know the business model of uber and how
to make more money with uber and these
guys were getting you know fifty
thousand subscribers out of nowhere and
I was very jealous because I didn't have
a lot of subscribers at that point in
time but if you look at these channels
now they're completely dead because
nobody's interested in those things
anymore I mean people are still doing
uber but I think the newness wore off
and that whole mystique of that business
is not there anymore because these
channels are not getting nearly as many
views as they were and so I would avoid
the hype I would not get into a hype
anything that's hyped up whether it's
the fidgets spinners or uber or maybe it
was cryptocurrencies don't get involved
in the hype I would get involved in
something that's gonna have long term
interest over a very long span of time
and even though it's gonna be slower to
build this at first it's gonna be
worthwhile down the road because it's
not gonna be something that dies off
when people are no longer interested in
this topic number two the second thing
you're going to do is you're going to
identify the competition and this is
going to come down to literally just
spending like probably an entire day on
YouTube all right you're gonna be
searching the niche so maybe your niche
is basket weaving or whatever it is what
I'm gonna choose for this example is
reclaimed wood I know it sounds kind of
weird but I was sitting here looking
down at my desk I'm like what am I gonna
use for an example and I said I'm gonna
use reclaimed wood people who go out
there and they find like barn wood or
they use pallet wood and they make wood
projects I want to show you guys how you
can make money with something as simple
as that and how it's really important
that you niche down and operate in a
niche would you consider woodworking to
be a niche I really wouldn't
but if you think about reclaimed wood
that is a very small area or a very
narrow topic and it would be easy to
establish yourself as an expert if that
was something again that you were
passionate about and really knew a lot
about so again it has to stem from
something you're passionate about
otherwise it's going to be hard for you
to
to do this day in and day out for six
months to a year making zero dollars you
have to make sure you enjoy doing it and
then the money will follow
but the niche I'm gonna be using for
this example here is reclaimed wood so
what I basically did here is I went on
and I put together a spreadsheet and I'm
looking for a couple of different things
I'm looking for the top five YouTube
channels operating in this niche I'm
looking for the top ten videos that have
been posted in this niche and also the
monthly views these channels are getting
as well as their total subscribers just
to get an idea of the size of this niche
every single niche you're operating in
on YouTube is gonna have a different
audience size and you want to make sure
this is a niche that has a large enough
audience that way you can make some
money with it in terms of ad revenue in
the other ways you're gonna make money
off this audience we're going to discuss
going forward but I'm gonna share the
numbers with you guys now and I'm gonna
throw the spreadsheet up on your screen
just so you guys can see and as far as
what I'm using to do this I know a lot
of people don't have Microsoft Excel and
so I'm using Google sheets because it's
free and everyone can use this so first
of all let's start with the channels so
what I identified was there were five
main channels out there that were very
popular when it came to reclaimed wood
projects and the way I did this was just
by googling reclaimed wood or doing a
YouTube search for reclaimed wood and
seeing what YouTube channels came up so
I found popular woodworking as of this
they had a 111 thousand subscribers and
370 thousand monthly views and if you're
looking to figure out how many monthly
views that YouTube channel has I
recommend jumping over to social bleed
and that will give you an idea of how
many views these channel are getting per
month then I found American woodworker
33,000 subscribers 80,000 views per
month I found fine woodworking with a
hundred forty thousand subscribers and
four hundred twenty-six thousand views
per month I found Kyle Toth with one
hundred thirty five thousand subscribers
and six hundred fifty nine thousand
views per month and then John Maliki has
58 thousand subscribers and eight
hundred thousand views per month so that
is what I found
looking at the top five YouTube channels
out there operating in this reclaimed
wood niche that I'm looking to go after
then what I did is I took a look at the
most popular videos that had been posted
talking about reclaimed wood and I found
ten videos total how do
reclaimed-wood like a pro tips for
finding and working with reclaimed wood
direst of reclaimed wood table reclaimed
wood table making a reclaimed wood light
box money-saving hacks for woodworking
using reclaimed pallet wood reclaimed
wood floating shelf restore the shore
how to remove nails and mill reclaimed
lumber by John Peters reclaimed wood
bench and reclaimed wood table why do I
care about this the reason I care about
this is because I'm going to be making
my own version of some of these videos
I'm going to identify what's popular
what's working for other people and I'm
gonna make my own version of these
videos and so what I'm doing is
identifying who are the big channels out
there how many subscribers and how many
monthly views they have so I can
identify how large this niche is and how
big I can expect to grow my channel and
second of all I'm trying to figure out
what videos worked well for other people
because they're gonna work well for me
too
so based on looking at those figures
these are the assumptions that I'm
drawing first of all I'm assuming that
based on the number of views these guys
are getting you could expect to get
about 250,000 to 500
an established youtube channel in this
reclaimed wood niche that is what I
would believe to be the average size of
a well-established channel in somewhere
around a quarter of a million to half a
million views per month would be a
reasonable figure to reach for in the
next six months to twelve months we're
not talking about one week here we're
talking about more than likely a year or
a year and a half could be as long as it
takes to become established in this
niche but if you really work your butt
off you could probably do it in six
months now the one thing that I have no
idea is the CPM or essentially how much
money you're making per one thousand
views for this niche it's different for
every YouTube channel out there if
you're in a comedy niche or a gaming
niche it's probably around a dollar or a
dollar fifty I'm assuming it's a bit
higher for this channel because it's a
little bit more specific and I noticed
all the ads being run on these videos
were related to power tools and
woodworking and so I'm assuming it's
going to be a bit higher and I'm gonna
guess it's a four dollar CPM of four
dollars per 1000 views and a lot of
people are gonna argue with me and say
that figure is high but if you look at
the CPM paid for different niches out
there you're going to start to realize
it's different for every YouTube channel
and unless one of these guys sees this
video and validates or
it's that I'm gonna assume it's about
four bucks for a woodworking niche if
anybody has a better figure drop me a
comment down below but at a four dollar
CPM you would make about one thousand to
two thousand dollars a month in ad
revenue just off of those 250 to 500
thousand views and that's gonna be your
first income stream from this YouTube
channel is that ad revenue now based on
the number of subscribers these other
channels have as well I would estimate
that you could build a channel of about
50,000 to 75,000 subscribers again if
you worked really hard if you followed
all the steps we're gonna outline in
this video here and you became an
established authority in the woodworking
when reclaimed wood niche that's about
how big you might expect to grow this
channel and 50 to 75,000 subscribers is
plenty to make a good living or at least
have a nice side income from this
YouTube channel okay so we've covered
the very first two steps here talking
about how to build passive income on
YouTube number one as we said decide on
a niche number two you've identified the
competition and step number three we
need to start talking about what kind of
equipment you're going to need to
actually have a youtube channel so one
of the things you're going to want to do
while looking at your competition
watching some of their videos is
identifying what I call the quality bar
and every single niche out there is
going to have a different quality bar as
far as what the basic quality level is
out there so for some YouTube channels
the bar may be up here and for others
the bar might be down here it all
depends on what niche you are operating
in and so what you want to do is go out
there look at these different YouTube
channels and look at the videos are they
using a very high definition camera or
are they recording the videos with their
smartphone or are they using a
microphone like I am with my lav mic
here are they doing a lot of stuff with
the editing are they incorporating drone
shots because what you're gonna have to
do is you're going to have to at least
match that quality level or exceed that
quality level in some way in order to
really differentiate yourself and build
up an audience in this niche so luckily
for us the reclaimed-wood niche the
quality bar is pretty low I noticed a
couple of things across a number of
videos I watched first of all I'm very
poor lighting they had terrible lighting
in these videos and I think a lot of
these guys making these videos just go
out into their garage and just prop up a
camera on a tripod and hit record
as a result second of all the audio is
very inconsistent because they go back
and forth from using the camera audio
without a microphone and then later on
they do a voiceover on the computer and
they don't have consistent audio levels
so what you'll notice is at some points
the audio is very quiet and then later
on in the video during the voice-over
the audio is really loud and it's very
annoying to the viewer and so these
things can be solved very simply by
purchasing some basic equipment so if I
was going to be breaking into the
reclaimed wood niche which I'm
absolutely not I don't know anything
about it I would definitely make sure I
have good lighting I would make sure I
have a lav mic as well as a mic for
doing the voiceovers or I might just use
the lav mic for both just to have
consistency and I would also make sure
I'm doing some editing of that audio and
post-production using audacity just to
make sure the levels are consistent and
I'm not annoying the viewer with
