I can't believe I'm doing this, but okay here's the deal,
I wanna inspire you,
and I figure what better way to inspire you
than to just embarrass the crap out of myself?
You see, my YouTube channel
Actually it's the fastest it's been growing
for like the last two and a half years.
And the reason it's growing quite fast
is because I'm actually publishing consistently now,
it's the first time I've done that in a very long time.
- That's it? - That's it.
- So this means turning the camera on,
this means getting in front of the camera,
this means saying things, recording it,
editing it, putting it out,
but you know what it means more than anything?
This, I figured this out.
And up here, I've just been essentially saying,
"Stop giving a crap, just put it out there."
Stop giving a crap, just put it out there.
Stop giving a crap, just put it out there.
Stop giving a crap, just put it out there.
You see how I didn't edit that out?
Because I don't give a crap, I'm just gonna be me.
Now obviously, editing is great.
You can edit things out
and that makes your videos a little bit more perfect,
so if you mess up, you can just do a jump cut.
You see, I just messed up,
and you didn't know because I edited that part out.
Messed up again, you didn't even know.
So to inspire you today, I am going to embarrass myself
and play a five to seven minute unedited clip
from one of my previous recording sessions
just to show you how weird
and jacked up the whole process is.
'Cause guess what?
When you film here on YouTube,
you don't have to click record and be perfect.
No.
You click record and you mess up as often as you can
until you finally get it right once,
and then you Dude Perfect that situation
and just show the best parts.
Same thing goes when you edit your videos.
So, stick around.
You're gonna see me, I can't believe I'm doing this,
okay I'm just gonna play it right now.
(sighs)
We're talking about audio, we gotta talk about podcasting.
Podcasting is huge right now
and with just your voice,
(objects clatter)
and a microphone,
I don't know why I have four of 'em.
And a microphone,
and a microphone,
you can make some money.
(sighs)
I've been making money from,
I've been podcasting for about a,
I've been podcasting,
I've been podcasting now for about a decade,
that's 10 years.
I've been podcasting so,
I've been podcasting for about 10 years now.
I've recorded over 1300 episodes
across five different podcasts.
65 million downloads.
And I've made money in all different kinds of ways
using my podcasts.
Here's how it can happen.
Number one, the most popular way to monetize a podcast
is through advertising and sponsorships.
Companies will pay you to mention
or talk about their show or their,
companies will pay you to have you talk about their company
for 30 seconds, 60 seconds, sometimes longer
if you're like Tim Ferriss.
An ad in the beginning of your show is called a pre-roll,
you can usually charge more for that
'cause more people are listening at that time.
Then there's the mid-roll in the middle of your episode
and then a post-roll at the end.
Typically you can charge about $20 to $35 on average
for every 1,000 listens of your show.
(burps)
Super awkward to watch.

- That's much better new boy.
That's much better.
- I wanted to share that with you to hopefully inspire you
and show you that you don't have to be perfect.
You don't have to be, as they call, a one take Jake.
'Cause it's so funny, I'll watch these YouTubers
who inspire me so much, everybody from MKBHD
to Peter McKinnon to Philip DeFranco
and I'm like man your videos are perfect!
And for so long I would see their videos
and see the stuff that I was trying to record
and just go, well my stuff's not good enough.
But you know what, I just said screw it,
I'm gonna put it out there
and hopefully showing you my process
shows you that you should just put it out there, too.
But I just wanna encourage you.
This is the start of a brand new year
and this is something I told myself I was gonna do more of
and hopefully this just shows you
that I'm right there with you,
so you tell me, Team Flynn, in the comment section below,
what's the thing that you've been holding yourself back
