Affiliate Marketing Website Research - Month 2 Of The Affiliate Marketing Case Study



month two of the affiliate marketing
lease study so again month two affiliate
marketing case study I began last month
was the first full month and this is now
the second full month I'm building an
affiliate marketing website from scratch
ultimately with the help of my team
right I'm a busy person so I'm
outsourcing most of this cool part is
you can follow along and if you've got
more time than money you can do the work
yourself or if you've got more money
than time you have the ability to
outsource just like I am so I've got a
list of things that we've accomplished
in the past month so in this video
you're gonna understand what I've been
working on in month 2 you're gonna
understand essentially what I've created
what the big challenges were that I'm
overcoming right now and then what the
results were what the traffic what the
expenses and what you know ultimately we
actually got published on the site in
month number two and you know it's one
of those situations for me I guess if I
had to summarize what I felt about month
two at this point is that progress feels
slow in the beginning and this is a
truth about life right we humans want to
be further along than we are though it's
just like a natural thing for humans and
we invested in content and we've really
tried to kick things into motion and
ultimately we did not publish nearly as
much as we had hoped for but we're
building structures we're building
systems we're building foundations that
ultimately can run very efficiently over
time and it always takes more time in
the beginning to build out all of these
systems and also if you're doing all of
this work yourself you probably would
have actually gotten more done than we
did because we had a big challenge and a
big issue with one of the service
providers and I'll talk about that here
in a minute so again the goal of this
entire challenge is to build a website
up to three thousand dollars per month
in revenue within one year's time okay
this is a review website it's mostly
going to be reviewing products on Amazon
and if I had to give a month to a theme
it was research affiliate marketing
website research this month was all
about research we got some things
published but boy were pretty deep in
the research and looking at processes
and systems to make that research faster
and more scalable ultimately so this
month we did more key
research I did a video on this we did a
kgr the keyword golden ratio pack I
actually purchased this from HPD and
that has gotten us about 130 new keyword
phrases that have extremely low
difficulty so that really has filled up
our queue for the writing teams we have
enough keywords to last us for many
months now at this point in time product
research so a big part of what we're
doing with this website is find to
essentially do the research for the
users for them right so let's just use
the electric lawnmower example that I've
been using from time to time if someone
wants to buy an electric lawnmower they
don't know which one they want to go to
Google they want to search for a
reviewer they and ultimately that
reviewer that's gonna rank high on
Google and get the click is probably
someone who took a lot of time to
actually do the research on a lot of
different lawnmowers that kind of
research takes time so we've actually
brought on a researcher who is more
knowledgeable in this world than I am
more knowledgeable in this world than my
Mike my project manager is so we
now have a specialist right I'm
investing in a specialist to really
actually analyze and review and rate the
different products based on the specific
keyword phrases this is a long process
if you've ever made a 300 dollar
purchase and you spent hours and hours
and hours and hours and hours on Amazon
you know exactly what I'm talking about
so I've got essentially somebody hired
on to do that for us
and I'm trying to new writing teams this
month so I bought a pack of 12 articles
in month number one if you remember and
also the link to month number ones video

blog post I'm able to link out to more
of the specifics so when I talk about
like the content or the research the

about it's more dynamic on a blog than
it is here on YouTube so that's there if

I appreciate it so I'm trying to more
writing teams the first month I bought
12 articles I think it was been like
$2,000 for 12 articles and they kind of
missed so I've used this writing team
for other things
I had a very specific template write
everything I'm trying to build here is
systems and templates so it can just be
duplicated out over and over and over
and over again and I wanted them to do a
little bit of review copy on multiple
different products write about 2,000
words for each and I wanted an email and
then I wanted a certain amount of words
for each of the top five that I gave
them and then I wanted some more content
about the product and about the niche
and about that stuff they just missed on
quite a few of them so I've got editors
going in to fix we've been back and
forth with them on some things and
ultimately it's got me trying a new team
for my content at this point so team
number two that I'm trying is an
outsourced team this time I'm only
buying four articles from them and gives
it flops I'm not gonna invest so heavily
on the front end I was very ambitious
and sometimes my ambition gets me deep
in the mud and that's where we are on
that situation and also bringing on some
in-house writers that were starting to
scale up right now and so the expense on
those in-house writers is going to be
paid after so when I buy content from a
team like a service provider I pay in
advance when I pay for content from a
team I pay in arrears I pay afterwards
so trying to more writing teams and then
I found something from month one I
didn't even know I purchased the initial
build of this website as mentioned in
part one they built a branded PDF
document that I have as a giveaway it
misses my target audience a little bit
it works for the products but it but I'm
taking kind of a unique twist on the
products too to speak very specific sub
segments of this world of this niche and
so I'm gonna need to tweak that but it's
a really nice report and I'm really
excited that we've got that to work with
so I'll be able to set up my opt-in page
I'll be able to set up an autoresponder
here very soon because that PDF is
already done what did we build so this
month we actually built our post
template now I believe the actual
structure and layout of your content on
a review based website is extremely
important
and I think a lot of people overlook
this and if you've ever been to a review
site you're like what's the best
electric lawnmower and then you load and
the first 2,000 words are about the
history of lawn mowers and you're just
like oh god you're scrolling like come
on where's the top five right so I'm
working to get the top five the best
pick up really high at the top and I'm
trying to make it look really nice so
we've built a custom post template we've
actually built that in the thrive
architect that's the theme that I use so
that took a bunch of time to get built
out but now that it's built
theoretically as long as the writing
teams deliver content the right way
we'll be able to plug that in and
they'll get published really quickly we
published our first post and I'm like
almost astonished to say that we got one
post published in the last month because
again most of the posts that we bought
that we got back up those twelve have to
get rieta today our editing team the
content team denied us on doing the
edits themselves they think they did
good enough so there was a
miscommunication in there which is why
I'm looking to spend my money elsewhere
at this point in time and and they won't
be getting a recommendation on the
channel because I don't like when
companies do that sort of thing kind of
like well that's on you
so I'm repairing those twelve that had
to get repaired and I built the template
and we were able to get one back from
the editor with that template built in
time and get one published so two months
in I published one piece of content on
my own when I bought the site it came
with a few pieces of content already
built so I'm behind I'm behind the ball
I'll be perfectly honest with you and
this is normal right like I'm I've got a
big goal that we're chasing down and I
just remind myself that I am building
systems I am not necessarily sitting
here hitting the feeder bar my
one-one-one I do believe if you were
starting a website from scratch and you
followed the process is that I've taught
in here you easily should have had four
to eight posts published in month two
but what's gonna happen for us is when
the right content team gets the right
content and the post layouts done it's
gonna be a machine and will be will be
starting to post new posts per month
which that's the value of the team and
that's the value of having systems so I
know we'll make up that ground later but
we're all on our horses moving as
quickly as we can
I have a site map up that's tied into
Google we got the SSL completely worked
out we got our Google Analytics code in
place we got the Yoast basic setups we
went to the permalinks and all of those
kind of little bits and pieces that you
do on a new website we've got all of
those to where our post type is our per
link is just the the keyword phrase the
title of the document essentially and
expenses at this point so we're gonna
get into the data specific side of
things the expenses 750 dollars on the
project management that's kind of all
about a flat fee there's just a certain
amount of time that it takes for my
project manager who oversees this again
if you are doing this yourself that's
you right you don't have to pay you
you're putting in your energy I don't
have that time because I've got these
two other brands that I'm running so I
have to literally hire somebody to make
sure this gets done because I would have
dropped the ball already a month to
because we're all busy right
so I spent $99 on keyword research that
was a keyword research pack that I
mentioned that got me a hundred and
thirty really really really easy to go
win keyword phrases so that was well
worth it in my opinion five hundred and
ninety eight dollars from the four new
articles this is team number two they're
right about the same price I believe one
of them was like a tiny bit more
expensive but it was it was
insignificant on the cost again all I'm
looking for is someone who can deliver
me back the content structure the way
that I want so I know that I can scale
right and again I've also brought in an
in-house writing team that's gonna be
working on content as well because I
don't know exactly who's gonna be my
best content writer content team Gale
this thing - 150 200 posts within the
year but I need to find somebody this
guy I'll tell you that much right now
eighteen dollars for the editor fix that
first piece of content that's obviously
gonna go up next month the niche
researcher I meant I mentioned before
the guy who's going into the Amazon
reviews he's going to the products he
has hands-on he uses these things a lot
it's a local guy for my project manager
who happens to be kind of an expert in
this this world $90 to him and 75
dollars to build out that template for
the layout design and to actually
publish the one this is my my normal
WordPress guy I've had him on staff for
four years or so he
spend a certain amount hours on on this
actual exact project so I broke that
that money out to track that there so my
total expenses this month was sixteen
hundred and thirty dollars that's lower
than I wanted to spend if you've been
following my thought is can I do this
all within 20 grand to have essentially
the the three thousand dollars per month
fully back in my pocket and I'm
wondering you know I need to increase
this I think it was actually I'm
starting to think twenty grand was too
low
I believe my upwards of fifty grand on
this so don't quote me on that it's um
nineteen plates spinning over here but
again all the details are in the blog
post all the details are in the last
month I've already talked about this to
you in the last 30 days so excuse me if
I got that little number wrong expenses
1630 traffic from search big ole goose
egg at this point in time and income is
also zero on the plus side I do show
that Google is actually starting to
index our content I can see that in the
Google search console that I've got tied
in so it's starting right and ultimately
I need to get that heartbeat of content
going I need to get that lighthouse
turned on right that that consistent
frequency of great content so Google
knows to come back and index us each and
every day Google keeps crawling their
spiders crawl our site I just did a new
video on what is SEO that talks about
kind of how Google indexes things so
we're really building that relationship
here in the very beginning and
ultimately I'm still excited
I love these types of challenges and I
know that you can build a successful
affiliate marketing website if you
haven't before the final note here is
I'm astonished that I'm already making
month two video it literally seems like
a week and a half ago that I even had
this crazy brained idea of like I'm
gonna do it affiliate case study in
public and so time is continuing to go
it sometimes feels like time is going
faster we're closer to fall right now
than we are to the beginning of summer
here in North America and it's kind of
tripping me out I'm seeing yellow in the
leaves in in some my trees from the
property already and it's literally
tripped me out so the truth about time
is that time is gonna carry on whether
you start taking action or not those who
get stuck in research mode they convince
themselves and they make themselves feel
like they're doing work
by researching that is not the work that
actually moves the needle in a business
sure you want to make a researched and
educated guess as to what your best
starting point is but the big key is to
start and even though we've had a slow
start here which I'm totally comfortable
with we're on the path we're refining
systems we're building systems we're
building processes that are gonna get
leveraged for months and months and
honestly I'm gonna be able to leverage
these templates these processes
potentially these writing teams for
several other niche sites if I choose
this can become an entire division and
the whole trick to all of it is that I
started two months ago and it feels like
a blink of an eye that were already two
months in and here we are another little
tweak on that this is month 36 this is
I'm about to cross in like two weeks my
third year of making YouTube videos it
does not feel like I've been making
YouTube videos for three years at all it
feels like a few months ago I got
started there's been very fun enjoyable
patches that had big growth in my
YouTube channel there's been some really
challenging times when I got sick when I
was traveling when I didn't feel like
doing videos I kept doing it all every
three times a week no matter what
through the three years and boy I've got
100 something thousand subscribers on
this channel do you notice the
philosophy behind both of those
successes
my wife's website now has 33 or 34
million visits to her website it's the
same philosophy she just started in 2009
put now great content she still
publishes great content all of the time
so I started I'm on the path I'm not as
far along on the path as I wanted to be
I'm spending a lot more money than I'm
getting an income you don't have to
spend nearly as much money out of
everything that we spent that I spent
sixteen hundred thirty dollars on if I
was doing this 100% myself the $99
keyword research package is something I
would have still spent money on other
than that you're pretty much out of
pocket hosting domain name and a little
bit of keyword research right now all in
your talking at the bare bones side of
things you could be in for 200 250 bucks
right now that gives you year of hosting
and the domain name and you'd have
keyword phrases ready rolling if you
need to know where to get that exact
keyword pack you can find it through the

we're pressuring ourselves to do more to
grow to expand into new areas and that's
what you need to do as well all having a
vision of a better life for ourselves
more freedom from cash flow a little bit
more residual cash flow each and every
month for our business we're putting in
time energy money now to build an asset
that's gonna make money for me month
over month over month over month in the
future
that's what wealthy people do that's why
I'm doing it that's why I don't spend
money on Italian fancy cars those are
liabilities
I prefer assets and on that note I'm a
