Pat here welcome to Flint cast which is
the current name of this new show that's
coming out I don't even know if that's
what it's gonna end up being called but
I wanted to create this for a number of
different reasons and experimenting with
some new devices here as you might be
able to see there's some shiny objects
that are happening we got a road caster
Pro here she's really neat got some
music going I got different screens see
I can share my computer you can also
share what's on the iPad which is kind
of cool I want to have some fun with
that later I'm experimenting to try to
find different ways that we could sort
of distract ourselves have some fun

you it's also going to help train me to
get better and get more confident at

recently what does this make possible
right we always kind of try to focus on

us but this might make things possible
for some of us and I know that if you
were a content creator this might be a
great time to sort of lean in to what it
is that you've wanted to do or you can
double down on it if you will
there is potentially the opportunity to

that's awesome gary i love it been
working on a business podcast now for a
year and need to move remote now instead
of in person
i'll move two phone calls dude the phone
calls are amazing you can actually pump
in music or pump in a phone call from
your phone into the road caster which is
pretty amazing so music is audible but
it's a little bit low got the music says
gary it's interesting that some people
can't see it cool thank you
oriane says the world is forced to slow
down and it's a good thing i batch
record my podcast episodes and write my
book there you go a lot of people taking
action during this time which i think is
really great now it's unfortunate that
we are forced to slow down for these
reasons but your i definitely agree with
you Arian the fact that sometimes we
just get in this rhythm and we forget to
sort of really hunker down and hone in
on the things that are important you
know it was really crazy just a few
weeks ago everything was working just
fine people were talking like nothing
was an issue and then all of a sudden
boom I think it just shows how fragile
and sensitive everything is and also
it's exposing a lot of holes especially
here in the u.s. related to these kinds
of these kinds of pandemics and things
like that music better nice beat yes
music rocks now cool and you can hear it
I just want to make sure that I don't
overdo the music but I have a lot of
music that we could just kind of have
fun with we can even have a few laughs

physical subscription with an online
video element for helping kids learn
about Catholic Mass we're giving away
the videos free during the crisis while
masses are canceled that's really great

that's definitely worthy of an applause
of course and anything that we could do
to help out I mean I'm trying to step up
in here and create some streams for us
to connect I know a lot of people are
offering things for free too we've
definitely you know on our side on SPI
have pulled back the promotions that we
were gonna do we were right in the
middle of a promotion while all this
stuff was happening but we've definitely
pulled out all accept it's like the
final email that's gonna be going out
tomorrow about that and that's for my
course power of podcasting and that's
because I think a lot of people want and
actually are excited about this
opportunity hunkered down at home to
start something like that but definitely
not gosh I was reading a lot of
headlines about really bad things people
hoarding sanitary stuff just so they
could resell it on Amazon and that just
kind of made me sick trying to take
advantage of a situation like this
versus trying to help out now thankfully
enough people I think the internet did
its job and let this person know like
what are you doing you are potentially
killing people he's gonna be donating it
all with just thing you should have done
in the first place

the right levels Alejandro says Pat do
you think podcasting is growing in
Spanish you're not the first person to
ask this question there's a lot of
movement in the Spanish market related
to blogs right now more than ever and
we're starting to slowly see that
trickle into the podcasting space as
well and spanish-speaking communities
are just a couple years behind the sort
of us-based communities so I think that
we're gonna definitely start to see a
rise in Spanish base Spanish based
podcast for sure so if you are wanting
to get into that now would definitely be
a great time for that let's see Sally
Moss says equipment for a beginner on a
limited budget to step up and do live
streams on YouTube so I think the best
thing to do for live streams would be
number one getting good audio and
getting a good camera the camera I would
recommend would be the c920 so let me go
over to let's see if I can go over to
the computer right now we're gonna go to
Amazon comm and I'll show you what this
looks like we're gonna do the Amazon
sorry c920
so here we go this is the logitech HD
pro c920 the one that I'm using right
now is not the Logitech c920 I'm
actually using a DSLR camera but if you
wanted to step it up a little bit more
the Logitech Brio is the one I'm using
on my other computer this one's a couple
hundred bucks but it's really really
clear now this does not help you with
audio it does capture audio but it's not
the best thing for sure so I definitely
recommend the c920 if possible you could
probably find it on eBay or sort of
other third-party markets for much
cheaper but it's definitely gonna be
great it plugs in via USB which is
fantastic and then for audio I would try
to recommend something like a Samson Q
to you the Samson Q to you is a great
microphone let me head back to the
computer here
samsoon q2u and they type that in right
no I didn't Sampson Q to you this is
about 60 bucks us and it plugs directly
into your computer as well via USB and
sound just as good as what you're
hearing me on right now maybe not quite
as good but when you do live broadcast
this is great the other one that is also
really great for live streams there's
the blue Yeti which is okay and that's
pretty popular but I also like the new
ATR 2100 X the ATR 2100 X is so this is
the one that I typically recommend it
which is the ATR 2100 but the ATR 2100 X
is the new one and it has a little bit
more power behind it so you're able to
sort of remove it from your face a
little bit which is great for live
streams and this is why I have a shotgun
mic so I can remove the microphone
completely from the shot and we can make
it sound great from there cool happy

Fabiano says hey Pat I'm still undecided
on your samson or the new mic from your
last video i like that you said the
samson has deeper bass sound so Fabiana
i'd recommend waiting until later today
to at least make some sort of decision
because I have another video that's
coming out that tests the samson versus
the ATR 2100 versus the 8 here 2100 x
and i do a whole bunch of different
tests to help you figure that out

zoom connected to their livestream
youtube call what's the best way just my
mixer to laptop using a mic that's
ideally how you'd want it to be make
sure that when you connect it however
that it does plug in and you can go to
if you're using an apple for example you
could you check out the apple icon
preferences or sound or whatever your
sound input can be selected make sure
that your mixer can be seen now if it's
not seen it might be the case that your
microphone doesn't have enough power so
if on the mixer there's a place to add
phantom power or v 48 then that would
help you definitely
the Marvin Chronicle says what are your
thoughts on daily podcasts that are 10
to 15 minutes long so as I answer this
question or before I answer it for
Marvin I would love for you to tell me
this is we're gonna start having some
fun here you guys we're gonna we're
gonna have some fun I would love for you
to tell me what to draw I'm just gonna
randomly just have something interesting
to look at that will probably not be
very good and we can just all have a
laugh okay so I'm gonna put on a little
bit of music in the background and as I
wait for the delay because I know
there's a little bit of a delay here I'm
gonna pick somebody at random to draw
whatever that thing is I'm gonna head on
over to the iPad because I can open up a
tool called procreate and we're gonna
have some fun well when it comes to
podcast that are much shorter you know
10 to 15 minutes long that's totally
cool there's a lot of podcasts that are
out there that have done very well
having much shorter format I mean a spat
is just like that look at the quick and
dirty tips podcast those are all very
short even lower than 10 minutes and I
think it could be something that if you
get in a good rhythm and you provide a
lot of value obviously you could work
out really really well let's see oh my

a tool called ECAM live which is pretty
cool

so this is a tool I use for recording
podcasts on the go you can actually plug
in I would recommend the ATR 2100 X it's
a USBC microphone I literally just
tested this last week and it plugs in it
sounds amazing and this is ferrite here
you can actually come in and check out
the recordings you can edit them on the
fly if you'd like it's it's a really
really great thing and I'm using an iPad
pro as well

opposite side which helps my face pop
this is this is what I've learned and
then back behind me as you can see I
have a couple things I have a LED light
that's offering this blue splash behind
me and then I have these other sort of
like this these are just string lights
from Target that I have behind me - so
that's allowing for this sort of string
effect kind of going down and it's very
cinematic to have like a blue teal and
then sort of an orange or yellow it's
any Michael Bay film has that sort of
coloring but uh but yeah that's that's
what I'm that's what I'm using oh sorry
I wasn't even full-screen so blue wash
here and then the lights from Target
behind me and then the aperture light
that's sort of just right there

what are your thoughts on startup
podcast to grow a market niche as low
search volume niche tech
commercialization plus hard tech
startups I think that starting smaller
in the podcasting space is a great idea
because you're gonna be able to sort of
cut through the noise much faster and
it's gonna be a lot easier for you to
sort of become the authority on that
little topic of yours and you can grow
from there you can actually grow
vertically and offer different things to
the same smaller audience or you can
expand out horizontally and start to
cover other parts that are sort of
tertiary and an auxilary to that I think
that really nailing down what it is
you'd ultimately love to happen is gonna
be really important so let's say you
gather a small group of fans who listen
to every episode well then what how are
you going to connect with them so
thinking about a website thinking about
how to collect their email for example
what is also great is you can consider
who else you might interview so who is
in that space that you can bring on the
show and that's another great factor
behind having a sort of more niche down
podcast because you're gonna be able to
really prove to somebody who may be an
authority in that little tiny niche that
well this is the show for them to come
on if any out there that are out there
so that's what I would recommend and and
I think that's a great move you just got
to get started for sure

live stream setup let's see yeah I don't
know how I might be able to share this
with you I still let's see if I go to
this camera let's see if I can let's see
if I can make another scene here okay so
you're seeing my view here I move the
computer around you might be able to see
what's going on so I have this light
that's the aperture light I was talking
about up here this is the shotgun mic so
now I just sort of switched ekm live to
the to the webcam
that's on the computer that's why it so
that's a little bit grainy can't handle
these darker darker lighting and then if
I flip this around you're gonna see
hopefully a camera there we go so
there's my DSLR camera and the way that
I'm getting my DSLR camera see that box
with the light down there
that's a black magic what is that called
web web converter web cam converter or
something and I'm able to use the DSLR
camera for that I'm going to delete the
scene by the way and go back to scene
number one and then I'm also using this
thing this is a pretty cool thing this
is a stream deck and I have different
scenes here so if I press this button it
moves to the computer if I press this
one it's the iPad right I'm drawing left
hand now hi everybody if I come and
press this button again and I'm back
here which is really cool Fabiano says
is it possible to find out what type of
podcasts get the most ad dollars
probably I mean I would imagine that it
very much is similar to advertising in
other spaces so if you consider where
you might be able to find information
related to ad dollars spent in other
spaces for example you know on YouTube I
know that it is much higher dollar value
when it comes to things that relate to
business that relate to finances that
relate to sort of any you know education
attorneys lawyers I know those are where
a lot of the top dollars spent and it's
very similar another across other
industries we've seen it also actually
if you go to Google AdWords you can sign
up for an account there for free and you
don't have to spend money but you can
get access to their Google Keyword
planner tool which will give you access
to essentially dollar amounts that are
spent for bidding for different keywords
so you can type in different keywords
into different niches and discover which
ones are often paid for more than others
the other place you might be able to go
would be to other SEO websites like SEM
rush they also tell you sometimes dollar
values
to different industries and if it's if
it's if it's dollar amounts that are
high it's likely going to be across the
board and you could probably charge more
for podcasting advertising spots now
when you are podcasting I got to say
there's other mechanisms to monetize
other than advertising and sponsorships
and when you're when you're starting out
it can be actually quite difficult to
get sponsors and advertisers to get
interested because they want to see
download numbers so what I would
recommend instead would be to have for
example you know selling your own
products or affiliate marketing perhaps
or maybe even developing fans that would
want to support you and pay you like for
for for like just because they're fans
patreon is the model for that cash flow
diary do I have a link for the USBC

think I do if if you go to I'm gonna

and I dot us slash ATR 2100 X is the USB
mic let me know if that works or not
Christa's would you be able to repurpose
video interviews and use them as podcast
episodes yeah absolutely the only worry
with that is let's say I were to take
this video set up and then share it on a
podcast it would be okay but there are
moments like when I'm doing the little
iPad thing or showing things on the
computer that just would not transfer to
audio so you've got to really be careful
about what you say and how it might
transfer to audio if it's very visual
right but that's definitely something
that you could do I also know a lot of
people who record their screens when
recording a podcast interview and then
reuse that later the best sort of
scenario that I've seen is people doing
that but then taking little clips of
their podcast and sharing it on YouTube
and repurposing it for other places
versus sharing the whole thing because
people you you want people to subscribe
to the podcast where
subscribe to podcast also on YouTube
people aren't watching for two to three
hours at a time if it's a long stream or
even 45 minutes of just two people
talking however if you have a very
searchable sort of chunk of information
from that particular episode then that's
worthwhile it's worth watching a couple
people talk about that topic because
you're there
and you found it through search for that
topic alone and that can then drive more
podcast listeners to your entire show it
could also help you just get more
velocity on YouTube CEO just says hi Pat

have 8 episodes posted in a book through
the end of April I'm so excited

recommend for young entrepreneurs like
myself to learn the legal aspects of all
my business ie taxes Finance Management
LLC stuff I haven't found much reliable
info what I would recommend is if you go
to I'm gonna go to the computer here I'd
recommend going to
smartpassiveincome.com go to learn and
then go to business development so these
are let's see right here epic guide to
business fundamentals there are eight
chapters here for you for you to see
exactly how to manage a lot of that
stuff so we got how to build a business
structure how to raise capital how to
operate your business life cycle all
that stuff is here including you know
taxes a lot of basics with finances and
things like that so this would be a
great place to start this was not
written by me actually this was written
by my CFO Matt who is wonderful and he's
uh he's he's sort of the expert in that

I got you so what I would recommend you
do is go to youtube.com
and actually let's see
you could go to iPhone recording Pat
Flynn and look at that how to podcast
with an iPhone podcasting gear let's see
if this I think I can actually have this

else these things exist a hundred
percent number one I just want to say
why would you want to do that I mean I
can understand it for some reasons
however if you're doing it because
you're afraid of what people will say
about your voice I would just say put
your own voice out there people want to
connect with you and the real you and
that's what I would recommend however
yes there are definitely tools that you
can use I don't know what they are and I
also know that in some systems and some
programs you can just change the pitch
and sometimes that'll just change your
voice you can make it a little bit lower
a little bit higher just even a few a
few points a few pitch points will
change it just kind of dramatically
actually which is really interesting but
they do exist I don't know what they are
but I've seen them used before
oh the game was very loud thank you I
didn't even realize the sound was coming
through it anyone hear it

keep informed stay informed
but don't get sucked in to just you know
watching hours and hours and hours of TV
you know the news just regurgitating the
same stuff understand that we actually
do have more control over this situation
than we may be led to believe by other
people and that's what I talked about in
that YouTube video on on Friday that you
you just very graciously shared so I
appreciate that you know this is a time
where we got to be proactive that's what
it comes down got to be proactive yeah I
agree
and that's been my sentiment as well by
