What if I told you that going broke was the best thing that could ever happen to
someone well in this video I'm gonna share David's story of going from being
the richest kid in school to the poorest and word on the street is that for every
subscribe button below meet David David is a great 12 student
growing up in beautiful San Francisco in the late 1990s now David is not like
every other kid in school David is the son of one of the richest men in San
Francisco you see David's dad mark owns one of the largest internet companies in
the United States and for David this means that he gets literally anything he
wants from living in one of the biggest houses in the city to having his own
personal chef and even a tutor that does all of his homework it goes without
saying that David was a very lavish lifestyle
in fact David's parents give him $1,000 a week allowance so that David can buy
new clothes or go out with his friends beyond this extravagant allowance for
David's 16th birthday his parents bought him a brand-new sports car which quickly
made David the most popular guy in school he was now a couple months into
David's final year high school and David became increasingly eager to begin
applying to college you see since David was a child he always dreamt of becoming
an astronaut David was absolutely fascinated by space travel and the
thought of going to the moon or better yet Mars excited David more than
anything else in the world since the start of high school David knew that he
wanted to apply for the aerospace engineering program
I used CLA and all David had to do to get in was to keep up his marks and
complete his college application luckily David's dad Mark had also gone to UCLA
so completing his application would be a breeze David could start to feel deep
inside that he who was just a few months away from being accepted into the
program of his dreams which would put him one step closer to becoming a real
astronaut one night after school David was eating dinner with his parents when
his dad shared with the family the news that someone had offered to buy his
company david eager to find out just how much the offer was pleaded to his dad to
tell him but all his dad would say was that it's much more than you
ever count a couple of weeks later david drove home from school in his bright red
sports car dropped his bag and went straight to watching TV as david flip
through the channels and alert flashed across the screen the message read stock
market dips 8% in one day as tech bubble begins to deflate david having no
understanding of the stock market changed the channel and went on about
the rest of his day a month later david arrived home from school and notice that
both his parents were home david was a bit confused as his dad worked long
hours and never took off anytime so he found it strange that his dad was home
early this day david walked upstairs and peered into his parents bedroom when he
looked in he saw his dad crying and his mom looking very upset David walked into
the room and asked what was wrong and his parents told him not to worry and to
go watch TV he had never seen his dad cry before and knew something bad had
happened but he couldn't exactly tell what that bad thing was the next two
months of school flew by and before David knew it he was starting his final
semester of high school as excited as David was to finish high school and move
on to college he started noticing more changes at home every day
his dad was home and David returned from school and his mom became overly
emotional at the simplest of things David had an inkling that something was
wrong but still his parents assured David that everything was okay
he was now the middle of January and David invited a couple of his friends to
come over and watch a movie after school as it went to David's family room
David's friend Jeff asked David where's your TV David then walked around the
room looking for the TV but it was nowhere to be found
it was at that point that David's parents walked down the stairs and
kindly asked David's friends that they could come back another day as I needed
to talk to David in private David's friends left and David grew increasingly
nervous he thought to himself why did I do am I in trouble David's dad spoke up
and said son it's about time we explained what's been going on David's
dad then began to explain that the stock market had crashed and that his company
had gone bankrupt which meant that David would no longer have a chef or a tutor
that all of his homework and that they would
be moving to an apartment outside of the city then David's dad dropped the
toughest news on David that he had to sell David's sports car and that David
would have to get a part-time job to help pay the bills David after hearing
this news began to break down so many thoughts went through his head like well
people still like me without my sports car who's going to do my homework and
what do you mean work a job the next morning David found himself taking a bus
for the first time in his life as he arrived at school his friends came up to
him asking why he was taking the bus David began to explain to his friends
that his dad had lost his business and that they had to sell his car in order
to help pay rent as the next couple of weeks went by David started to notice
that his friends were becoming more distant and always had an excuse when he
would ask them the hangout besides finding himself without many friends at
school David began to struggle in class between not having his tutor doing all
of his homework and haven't used many of his evenings working a part-time job
David's grades began to slide especially in math which is always one of David's
least favourite classes what was worse was that David's parents had no time to
help him with his college application or his homework as they too were working
long hours in order to pay the bills David grew increasingly worried that he
may not get into college and fulfill his dream of becoming an astronaut it was
now the start of February and David was becoming accustomed to his new lifestyle
every day he would go to school then work a few hours only to come home and
study late into the night David started to become burnt out from all this work
and decided he would perk up his spirits by going to the mall and buying himself
a new shirt as David went into his favorite store he began looking at the
clothes he pulled out a couple of shirts and then checked the price tag to his
shock he realized that the cost of the shirt was as much as his paycheck that
he had worked a full two weeks for David Saul King realized that there was no way
he could justify buying that expensive shirt especially when the money would be
better spent helping out his parents back at school David continued to
struggle with his assignments and his old group of friends had moved on to
focusing their attention on the kid with the next coolest car then one day David
was in the cafeteria and saw-max a kid in his math class who was eating
alone feeling bad for max David decided to ask max if he could join him for
lunch max smiled and welcome David and the two
boys got to talking David admitted that he was having a hard time with their
current math assignment and how he was always impressed with how well max did
in class Maxon offered David to come over to his
house and he would help him with the upcoming assignment which David knew he
had to ace he was going to keep up his grades for his college application after
school David and Max took the bus to Max's house max lived in a small
apartment with his mom similar to the one that David now found himself living
in since his dad had lost his business the two boys studied the night away and
soon David found himself over at Max's house every night working on math
homework and also on their college applications a week later David and Max
were sitting in math class when the teachers started to hand back the last
assignment David became increasingly nervous because this assignment would
significantly impact his college application then the teacher dropped the
assignment on David's desk and to his delight he had gotten an A even though
David had gotten good grades in the past this success felt different David knew
he had earned this grade and was proud of all the hard work he had put in after
school David rushed home to show his parents his good grade David said smiled
told him how proud he was and for the first time ever he put his assignment on
the fridge then David's dad went on to explain that he had gotten a promotion
at work and that the family will be moving back to their old neighborhood in
a couple of months as David's final semester continued on he found himself
spending more and more time with Max and his new group of friends on the weekends
David and Max would work on their college applications and run in the park
David never expected that he could have so much fun with his spending lots of
money or driving his expensive car like he used to with his old group of friends
he also began feeling much greater sense of self-worth and confidence as not only
had he become a great student but it had also learned how to manage his time by
balancing his studies with a part-time job well David was now taking the bus
was having to be frugal with his money he was really beginning to enjoy his
more modest lifestyle David and his parents soon moved back into their old
neighborhood and one day David's dad told David he had a surprise for him
David and his dad went outside and in front of the house was David's old car
David thanked his dad but deep down David wasn't as excited about getting a
new car as he once would have been he now knew that material goods were not
the key to happiness but instead working hard and having true friends to spend
time with were worth much much more the following day david drove to school in
his red sports car and all the kids gathered round many of his old friends
began to shower David with attention however David knew that these old
friends just like David for his expensive things and instead david 12
max did get in the car as they had to take a drive to check out UCLA the
school that both David and Max had been accepted to for the upcoming year thanks
