hey miles here miles Becker calm this
video is gonna help you understand how
many words should your blogpost be
specifically you're gonna learn a
process that will essentially allow you
to let google tell you exactly how many
words your blog post should be because
there's a lot of misinformation thrown
around like Oh 2500 words or 3,000 words
do better in some niches for some
keyword phrases yes but for others the
answer is no and you want to repeat this
process for each blog post for each
this video is keyword research you have
to have a specific focused keyword in
mind that you're aiming for that you're
targeting if you haven't seen my keyword
research videos I highly recommend them
they're 100% free here on YouTube I'll
have a link to that playlist pop-up
above my head it will also be in the
description so moving forward from here
we're gonna jump on to the computer and
you're gonna follow along as I go
through the process again we're gonna
let Google tell us how many words it
should be the keyword phrase that I'm
focused on for this one is the best
fishing rod for backpacking so it's a
longtail keyword phrase which is where
all of the growth really lies for
digital marketers for affiliate
marketers anyone trying to really kind
of get going in the world of content
marketing longtail keyword phrases are
the way to go so let's jump on the
computer and let's do a little bit of a
work I'm gonna actually pull this
together
I'll speed up the part where I'm pulling
the data just so we can make this as
efficient as possible and again you want
to do this every single time for every
single keyword phrase so the first thing
I do is I go search my keyword phrase
which is best fishing rod for
backpacking and what I'm doing right now
is I'm allowing Google to show me
exactly what Google thinks deserves the
first page how do I know because I
searched it now the first thing you
might notice is I'm not logged into
Google right I don't want my past
searched search history or my Gmail
account data or any of that data that
Google has for my Google account I don't
want that to skew these results at all
so I'm doing this from a separate
browser where I'm not logged in now on
this results page you're gonna see that
we have advertisements up top we've got
their little kind of featured snippet
and then we not only have content
options right these are blog posts here
showing up one two three we have some
forums
and then we also have an Amazon link
down here so there's an Amazon link now
in order to move forward with this
process you want to ignore Amazon links
and other large e-commerce websites
specifically e-commerce websites that
have really large domain Authority which
Amazon does and you also want to ignore
forums and any other highly kind of
highly refined websites with large
domain Authority let me try to break
that down into simpler terms if there
was a major news outlet and a major news
publication that showed up on here you'd
want to leave that out like a CNN type
website or something what we're looking
for specifically instead of talking
about what we want to leave out you're
wanting to pull all of the independent
content publishers right the other
bloggers like us because that's actually
who we're in competition with and that's
who is dominating the first page so what
we do is we go through each and every
one of these and I'm gonna hold ctrl and
click and it's gonna open these in a new
tab and I'm just gonna open them all up
one by one in a new tab I'm going to
skip the one that is a forum that I
could tell as a forum and I'm gonna kind
of keep going on to the content-heavy
options I'm gonna skip Amazon and I'm
gonna click on the next one and two more
here and one right here so that's pretty
much all of the main content you can do
the top five I recommend doing the top
all of the top blog pieces of content
that are on the first page of Google is
what you want to do and that's it for
Google so I'm gonna close this window
and now I've got all of these different
all of these different blog posts here
so I've got one two three four eight
blog posts the other piece I need is I
actually need to open a word count tool
so I'm gonna go to word counter net and
what I'm gonna do is I'm actually going
to paste in the words from this post to
find out how many words is this post so
I'd literally just copy all of the text
here in the body copy and I'm gonna
scroll down and there's the comparison
chart and I don't care if it's got
tables or what all it has I'm literally
gonna just grab everything
I'm already noticing this is quite the
long post and I want to get down to the
comments section is usually what what
you can notice that you'll need to skip
and the first thing you might be
noticing is that this is a major major
update here this are a major piece of
content so I copied all of this and I'm
going to paste it here in the word
counter and I'm gonna let the word
counter do its work three thousand six
hundred and eighty-eight words was the
number one so I'm just gonna type that
in here so you can see I've got a
spreadsheet here you can use a Google
sheets you could write this down and
just use a basic calculator and then I
go close that one since I already
handled it I'm going to go back to my
word counter and I'm going to delete
everything from here so I don't
accidentally paste over top and I'm
going to repeat this process over and
over and you're gonna watch me go
through it one more time you can see the
layout of these is quite simple these
are clearly affiliate marketers just
doing the the core review based content
and I'm gonna get to the bottom here and
I'm gonna take the related text and
that's it so the I'm gonna stop the
about the author I'm going to copy this
I'm gonna go paste it inside of my word
counter and let me put this on a new tab
just to make it work really easy for my
workflow and then I scroll to the bottom
here 4632 words okay and now at this
point what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna
complete this process for the rest of
these pages but I'm going to speed up
this video super fast so you don't have
to watch me go through this and I'll
tell you how to crunch the data in a
second so give me one quick second to go
pull the rest of the data and I just
want you to see and kind of somewhat
fast forward motion I don't want you to
be here real-time this is the work right
we have to do the work if you want to
know precisely how many words to put on
your post let me go grab the rest of
this data for us now
you
okay and we're back so I've accrued the
data or collected the data from the
first I think seven of them and I wanted
to show you number eight is backpacker
comm which is actually like a magazine
and this is one that I'm going to omit
I'm knocking include and that's what I
meant earlier major magazines major
brands major news outlets Amazon the the
Walmarts of the world big time REI calm
we're not actually as bloggers and
affiliate marketers trying to compete
with those kinds of companies and you
can see there on the first page with a
piece of content that just has literally
no content at all there's maybe twenty
five words on this page and that's
because they have a very strong domain
Authority so I'm omitting them from the
results and I just wanted to show you
that to give you another example of the
types we omit so we don't do Amazon's we
don't do the big corporations we don't
do the really large brands if there was
some name of a backpacking company that
showed up on here magazines Amazon yeah
all of those so with those off the list
I have my actual list of the top seven
so on the first page of Google there are
seven blog posts from independent
publishers who are all seeming to do
affiliate marketing just like I would be
targeting this here right so this is my
actual competition and the range is from
thirteen hundred and eighty nine words
on the low side to four thousand six
hundred words on the high side and what
I want to do is I want to grab the
average so I'm just gonna click up here
under the autosum and I'm gonna click
average press tab and there it is two
thousand six hundred and seventy nine
point seven one four words that is the
exact average of what's showing on the
first page Google likes parity right
Google likes my content to fit in with
what works if Google is showing me
clearly that the first page the blog
posts on the first page have an average
of twenty six hundred and seventy nine
words then I should have about twenty
six hundred and seventy nine words
because I'm proving to Google that I'm
right in range with what Google is
looking for if you go put a 1500 word
post on here well there's a few examples
of how that could work but that doesn't
really fit in with the average and this
is the process if you really want data
every single time on how many
my blog post be utilized this process if
you're in my content and conversion man
content and conversion comm program it's
closed right now if you're not in but if
you are a member the SEO the advanced
SEO tools that I've built for you
actually does this for you you just put
in your competitors there's a training
and that shows you how to use it and it
will crunch these numbers for you in a
kind of an automated fashion but if
you're not in and you need to just do
this manually here's the process it's
really quite simple but ultimately you
again the whole point here is you want
to let google tell you how many words
that blog post should be and what you'll
find is certain keyword phrases will
have averages in the 1500 range other
keywords will have averages up at the
3/4 thousand range and you always want
to be within parody of what's already
working on Google because that's how you
show Google that hey I'm right within
that range that you've already given
page 1 to and as long as the other
ranking factors are in place right your
on-page optimization is as good or
better than what's already ranking your
domain Authority is as good or better
than what's already ranking and you've
got enough internal links linking to
this post
that's literally giving you a better
page Authority than what is currently
ranking and your word count is on parody
the likelihood of you hitting that first
page goes up drastically if you don't
take this into account that's just one
ranking factor that you're ignoring that
your content competitors might be taking
into account you got to take all of
those little advantages that you have
and now you know the kind of unique
advantage to figure out the answer to
the question how many words should my
blog post be if you've enjoyed this
