How These Super Bowl Tweets from 2010 and 2013 Came True

- [Flynn] In 2013, Patrick Mahomes,
a quarterback at Whitehouse High school in Texas,
tweeted this on Super Bowl Sunday
while the Baltimore Ravens played the San Francisco 49ers.
Seven years later, during Super Bowl 54 in 2020,
his dream came true after he himself quarterbacked
the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl win
over the San Francisco 49ers.
- [Interviewer] Patrick Mahomes,
you and the Kansas City Chiefs just won the Super Bowl,
what are you going to do next?
- I'm going to Disney World.
- [Flynn] But something even more amazing happened
on the same night.
During the same Super Bowl in 2020,
singer Demi Lovato realized a similar tweet
that she posted in 2010 during Super Bowl 44.
And of course, 10 years later, that one day happened.
♪ And the home of the brave ♪
- [Flynn] And she was amazing.
This was especially inspiring
because Demi's been having ongoing battles
with addiction and to see her here better
and realizing her dream, it's just so awesome, go Demi.
So does this mean when we tweet something, it'll come true?
Well, not exactly, you can write a letter
to yourself too like Colin Kaepernick,
former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers wrote
when he was in just the fourth grade.
He wrote to himself, "I'm five foot two inches, 91 pounds."
Wait, wait, wait, hold it, in the fourth grade?
These were my stats when I was a senior in high school
and I'm not even kidding,
here's a picture to prove it.
To give you some perspective, trumpets are 18 inches tall.
I'm just saying, anyway, let's keep reading.
"Good athlete, I think in seven years,
"I will be between six feet to six feet four inches,
"140 pounds, I hope I go to a good college in football,
"then go to the pros and play on the 9ers or the Packers
"even if they aren't good in seven years.
"My friends are Jason, Kyler, Leo, Spencer, Mark and Jacob,
"Sincerely Colin."
And yes, he did grow to exactly six foot four inches tall,
and he did play for the 49ers.
He also became well known
for some other stuff too related to football.
But he didn't write any of that stuff down.
I look for a lot of other examples
of people who have publicly shared their dreams online
and then realize them, and although I know they are there,
unfortunately, the internet seems
to be more interested in things like tweets
that don't age well, especially on the political front,
which I don't want to get into right now,
and I'm pretty sure you don't either.
But I do want to get into how this all happened.
How did Patrick Mahomes, Demi Lovato
and Colin Kaepernick realize their dreams from yesteryear?
Was it the magic of posting something online
for everyone to see?
Well, although Twitter is not a virtual magic lamp
or Zoltar, from the movie "Big".
When you do share your goals publicly,
in many cases, once it's out there, things can happen.
You could become more likely to take more action on it,
knowing people are out there,
sort of like public accountability.
It could be more of an internal proclamation,
a pledge, if you will,
that you could get more public support
and encouragement from too.
Or maybe it's more of a "Think & Grow Rich"
by Napoleon Hill situation,
where simply just thinking it leads you
to the actions that you need to make it happen.
All of these things can be true,
but what do you think is the main reason
these people realize their dreams?
Let me know in the comments section below.
For me, I think it's also the seeing others
doing the thing that you want to do that helps a lot.
Both Demi and Patrick's tweets came on Super Bowl Sunday,
when they each saw someone else
doing the same thing they wanted to do.
Mahome seeing quarterback Joe Flacco say the same thing.
- [Interviewer] Super Bowl, what are you going to do next?
- I'm going to Disney World.
- And Demi Lovato hearing Carrie Underwood belt out
the national anthem in 2010.

- [Flynn] And I'm sure the same goes for Kaepernick as well.
A fourth grader at the time who was probably glued
to the TV screen every football Sunday.
I want you to know that this doesn't just happen
to celebrities and athletes.
This can happen to any of us,
for anything we really want.

one that I built to help people start their own businesses,
stating the following and here's what happened.

See if you can find it, right?
- [Boy] You go do whatever you want, I'll just stand here.
- [Girl] Super Mario.
- [Boy] Oh, thanks.
- [Flynn] You can, Keoni look over there if you see one?
- It's right there, up there.
- [Flynn] Should we get it?
- Yeah, buy your own.
Can I go around and ask people if they wanna buy it?
(laughs)
- [Flynn] It's okay, I just wanted to see it.
What do you think?
- Cool, you gonna buy it?
And read it over and over?
- [Flynn] No, I already have a book, it's okay.
- Sell it to someone like you usually do.
