Podcast Marketing in 2020 (Top 5 Podcasting Tips that Get More Downloads and Subscribers)

what's up team Flint Pat here and
especially podcasters who are watching
this right now by the way if you don't
have a podcast yet yes should be
podcasting because it could massively
help you gr
ow your business and get more
exposure if you don't have a podcast yet
click on the card up above or the link
in the description below and I'll teach
you how to do that for free so go ahead
and check that out now whether you are
going to start a podcast or maybe you
already have one guess what we all want
to grow our podcast we all want more
listeners because you can have the best
conversations in the world for your
podcast but unless anybody's finding
that podcast well then it's kind of all
for nothing right so in this video and
teach you five things that you can do to
grow your podcast right now starting
with number one guest podcasting this is
when you become a guest on another
person's podcast and this works in
several different ways first it allows
you to get on another person's show with
their endorsement and of course since
those listeners are already listening to
a podcast it's very easy to go and
listen to and subscribe to yours from
there it's pretty challenging to
convince people to listen to a podcast
coming from a video coming from a blog
post and all other mechanisms usually
especially social media because guess
what they have to then go to their phone
and open up that podcast app and then go
and search for your your name and then
go subscribe from there if they're
already listening to a podcast it's much
easier so be a guest on another person's
podcast for that reason unlike a guest
post where you sort of pre write a post
and put it on another person's blog and
hopefully get some traffic coming to
your website because you are a guest on
another person's show and like I said
you have their endorsement guess what
that audience is not just gonna know
about you they're gonna hear your voice
they're gonna understand why you do what
you do they're gonna hear your story
they're gonna have a better ability to
connect with you and thus have incentive
to go and find more about you and listen
to your podcast
so make sure that on your guest
podcasting efforts you are also making
sure you are very clear with the call to
action and the call to action hot tip
should be to a unique URL that's
specific for that audience yes you can
bring them to your home page yes you
should mention a link or where they can
go find your podcast
however a specific landing page that
allows for them to come back to your
website and find all the things that you
mentioned that you talked
about to connect and continue that
conversation from that show is going to
help you out massively so a couple
call-to-actions hey go and subscribe to
the podcast make sure you give them the
name correct any misspellings that are
usual with the name of your show and
also a link to a unique URL that is just
for that audience and you might be
wondering pat like that's a lot of work
well of course it takes work to get some
of the stuff to get going
but you only have to do that once
because then you can duplicate that page
and then create it for somebody else
who's audience you're getting in front
of - it was Seth Godin who recently said
that podcasting is the new blogging so
hey you want more traffic for your blog
and or listeners to your podcast
well guest podcasting is the new guest
blogging so that's number one
next number two repurposing your show I
think this is a strategy that a lot of
podcasters attempt to do some do it very
well in some sort of just do minimal
work that actually doesn't do them much
good except kind of waste time so
repurposing your show would be to take
the audio file from your podcast and put
it elsewhere and there are many ways to
do that you can also take the transcript
from that audio file and turn that into
blog post and you should definitely be
taking that transcript and putting it on
to your blog post for SEO purposes for
search engine optimization that was
specifically advice I got from an SEO
expert related to my podcast so you
should definitely be doing that but when
it comes to stripping the audio out or
using it in different ways the number
one way that I would recommend doing
this is to if you are going to be doing
it on social media it's to take special
clips from that episode to purposefully
entice people to go and click through
there to listen to the rest of the
episode you can do this with just the
audio only or if you so happen to plan a
little bit ahead and actually film the
recording of that particular podcast
episode whether it's just a capture of
the interview on something like Skype or
sort of a side-by-side or you could do
like my good friend Thomas Frank does
for the college info geek podcast and
essentially just turn a camera on when
you were recording an external camera
and it's not a screen capture it's like
an outside camera and you get some more
higher-quality footage in that way and
you can repurpose and use that in many
different ways - I recently did
something similar where I had an
interview with mkbhd and I flipped on
the cameras on skype and I was able to
capture those moments and then I
repurpose that into
a shorter video that was then published
on YouTube with sort of five highlights
and surprising facts that I learned
about marques Brownlee's so it takes a
little bit of planning ahead and yes you
could probably do a hundred and one
different things to repurpose your show
what I would do is pick one or two
additional methods beyond just
publishing it in your normal ways to get
the show out there and really go all in
with those I'd much rather you have a
lot of focused energy into one or two
methods of repurposing your content
rather than just like a hundred
different things that are only
scratching the surface with with what it
could do so repurposing your content and
testing experiment see what works for
you and your workflow but also in
audience responds alright next I teach a
lot of people how to podcast I have
people who have watched my free You Tube
tutorials again you can find one in the
link in the description below or I teach
people in some more premium courses with
some more hand-holding and
accountability to help them launch a
show I've helped tens of thousands of
people launch their podcast and when it
comes to the marketing of your show and
I've noticed this with my students too
there's still a lot of apprehension to
send an email to your list each time you
come out with a new podcast episode I
would get into the habit of sending an
email to your list every time a podcast
episode comes out now if you take your
email list a little bit further and do a
little bit of segmentation there and you
understand the different pockets and
buckets of people in your audience then
you can get a little bit more honed in
on okay well this episode is for the
beginners so I'm just gonna send to the
beginners on my list but using the email
list that you have worked so hard to
build
you should utilize that list those
people sometimes don't know a podcast
episode has come out or they might not
understand the importance of one that
has just come out even though it had
come into their device utilize your
email list it is a completely underrated
thing and I think a lot of people are
afraid that they don't want to annoy
maybe you're afraid of annoying your
email subscribers but if you come out
with some quality content which you are
having your podcast of course and you
support that with text in that email
that helps a person understand why
that's important well then you're
actually doing your audience a service
so serve them and understand that some
of them need that reminder to go and
listen to that to that show and it'll
also be a nice touch point for people
who have already listened to that show
maybe you you pull out a couple
highlights to kind of remind people of
the kinds of things that they learned
when they listened to the show so
utilize your email list and don't be
afraid to do that try it for a month
every time you come out with a new
episode just try it for a month and see
what happens I promise you you're gonna
get more people listening to your show
but then guess what more people will
share that show because now they have a
direct link to it that they can then
share with others and then you'll have
more people listening the next time and
it just kind of kind of continues to
grow over there and do it you know your
email your list number for ads I want
you think about Facebook ads in the
realm of what we're about to discuss
here now paying for ads that go directly
to your podcast episodes can be very
expensive and it's not very easy to
track what happens unless there is a
specific call to action in that episode
alone that then you can track and
actually has dollars coming back in your
pocket I wouldn't actually pay for ads
specifically for my own podcast to bring
new listeners and subscribers and it's
hard to track and like I said you just
you just have no idea what how it's
gonna work I feel like I've spent a few
thousand dollars in experimentation with
that and I would not recommend that what
I would recommend however is if you
happen to be a guest on another person's
podcast offer to pay to boost their
posts on Facebook with you featured
again on their podcast episode this is
very common and people have done this to
me which is where I got the idea when
people have asked me who were guests on
my show hey Pat can I pay you $200 to
boost this to your audience of course
I'm gonna say yes because you're giving
me money I get to show my podcast to
more people who are on my list on
Facebook and who have liked my page but
what's the benefit for the person who's
the guest well the benefit is now more
people in my audience with my
endorsement and promoting this person so
if you are a guest on another person
show offer just even if it's 50 bucks
100 bucks 200 bucks and you were very
very well featured on that particular
episode and you see that it's actually
driving more subscribers and more
downloads and more listens to your
episodes well offer a little bit of
money for them to boost their Facebook
post that they have put that link in for
you and you're gonna find that that's
gonna work a lot better than you
promoting your own
your own podcasts without really any
sort of way to track if that's working
or not alright in fifth and finally and
this is a this is a funky one because I
know a lot of us we want people to
subscribe to our show and that's always
going to be the case because when people
subscribe to your podcast they get it
automatically uploaded to their device
when your show gets pushed out which is
exactly what we want however you're
gonna find that on your website there's
gonna be a number of people who actually
listen to your podcasts on your website
now it's not usually return listeners
though it is usually first-time
listeners who either find your website
or you know somebody else links to your
podcast they're listening on your
website so the idea here is how can we
capture those people who are on your
website and then turn them into
subscribers and listen to more of your
episodes the first thing is to really
pay attention to what's happening on
your website right now where you have
particular podcast episodes are you
actually doing anything to really entice
those people who are listening right
then and there and they're actually
playing the episodes on your website too
then subscribe to your podcast do you
make it easy how many steps are there in
order to do that you should have direct
links or clear direction to go and
actually subscribe to the podcast that
you have so that they can then
continually get them downloaded later
because if you don't do that they may
listen to it they may even enjoy that
episode but then think about all the
work that's required to then go to the
podcast app and then download and all
the things without any clear direction
or call to actions from you get those
people who are listening on your website
on your podcast and subscribing now I've
built a tool that it that can help do
this it's called the smart podcast
player you can find it at smart podcast
player calm this is actually a tool that
me my team developed for us and then so
many people saw it and that had asked
for it we ended up turning into
something that people could download as
a wordpress plugin it is a paid product
but it does require a bit of support and
we're adding new features all the time
including the ability for you to
actually build your email list from a
player essentially it is a very fancy
looking and very beautiful
web-based player that allows for more
downloads because it can auto play into
the next episodes on the track player
and on the main player it can also help
you get more email subscribers it all
four it offers some features like speed
control and rewind and those kinds of
things that aren't you
on web-based players more than that just
provides the experience that you need to
get those people to go yes I like this
I'm gonna interact with it
I might dive deeper into the show notes
or I might actually listen to more
episodes from here and then they're
gonna subscribe your show we have
thousands of customers right now who are
extremely satisfied in people from Tony
Robbins to John Lee Dumas and even Amy
Porterfield used the smart podcast
player so if you want to check that out
smart podcast player comm is where you
want to go smart podcast player calm and
you can check it out so yeah those are
the five ways that you can increase your
downloads so number one to recap guest
podcasting so what I would recommend
doing is see if you can get on another
person show like within the next month
make that a goal you're gonna find that
it's gonna work very very well as
opposed to all the social media posts
that just link out to your podcast
promise you next repurposing your show
so instead of just the normal social
media posts and other marketing things
that you do actually take in and take
chunks or video or little audio clips
use tools like splasheo which i didn't
mention earlier and all these links are
in the show notes below but splasheo is
a tool that you can upload an audio file
or a video and they will give you back a
video that has you know the sort of
waveforms and the captions in there that
make it very easily shareable and
consumable engaging on various social
media platforms there's other ones that
do that too headliner dot app and I
think wave with two V's IO there's a
number of websites that are now allowing
us to repurpose our content or audio
content in that way but I like splasheo
and I'm good friends with Gideon who's
the founder of that company so splasheo
calm and you can again check out the
links below so repurpose your content
number three
email your audience just do it
experiment with it if you've never done
it before try it I promise you you're
gonna get more listens than you are used
to and it's just a great thing that we
should do it and and the more you the
earlier you start the more that you'll
train your audience to open up those
emails because hopefully your content is
great too number four ads if you are a
guest on another person's show offer if
you want to do some ads to pay for that
person to boost that post so that more
of you show up to their audience with
that person's endorsement it's gonna be
a lot better than you sending cold ads
to a person that you've never met before
promise you it number five focus on your
web listeners what
experience like for them how are you
actually capturing them as a subscriber
and then utilizing tools like the smart
podcast player at smart podcast player
comm to help increase the web experience
and engage your users a little bit more
help them go deeper into your archived
content and hopefully get them to become
a subscriber too so there you go five
ways to increase your downloads and grow
your podcast here and I hope that you
will do at least one of them that's your
call to action do one of these things
first and then do the rest I guess so
team Flynn you're amazing by the way you

new listeners just by commenting so in
