Productivity Tips For College Students

As a student we have a lot to do in what always seems to be not enough time
besides achieving the best grades possible we want to be social exercise
and get enough sleep as often as possible in order to manage all these
commitments we need to be productive in everything we do therefore in this video
I'm gonna share with you seven productivity tips for college students
that will help you excel in all aspects of your college life make sure to watch
until the end as the last tip is my personal favorite number one track your
time it's difficult to plan your time if you don't know how you're spending it
therefore tracking your hours is an important step towards better time
management as a best practice you should be tracking both your low-value
activities as well as your productive activities to understand how much time
each of them are consuming for example you may secure casual YouTube viewing is
not impeding your weekly productivity until you actually track how many hours
you spend being sucked into the YouTube video vortex if this sounds like you
don't worry I used to fall victim to this issue too now I manage my phone
usage using the screen time app on my iPhone every week I analyze my social
media usage in order to ensure that I stay within my predefined limits of
downtime on my computer I use another powerful app called rescue time rescue
time allows me to track my mindless internet surfing and Netflix which has
allowed me to unlock hours upon hours of free time throughout my academic career
if these tools are too technologically connected for you don't worry I've got
your back whenever you start a new activity say reading the introduction to
your term report simply document the start and end times using a wall clock
in order to assess how efficient you're being with your time number to schedule
regular breaks believe it or not taking a break will actually increase your
productivity students who try to cram for hours at a time do not perform at
their peak our brain can only handle so much newland for me
before we begin to tire and lessen our attention throughout college I employed
the Pomodoro Technique which involves working or studying for 25 minutes then
taking a five-minute break I like this approach because it allows you to focus
attentively for short bursts of time while also giving you a break to scratch
the edge of checking your phone whether you take a 5 minute break every 30
minutes or every two hours find a schedule that works best for you
everyone is unique in their preferred study timeline but the most important
thing is to stick with your decision use these times to rest your mind and
increase your productivity number 3 set deadlines now that you're tracking how
long your activities take it will help to set work or study deadlines you may
have determined through tracking your time that your first activity will take
3 hours and should aim to finish that section of the project at least a week
before it's due the strategy will help you avoid leaving your studies to the
last minute normalize deadlines and maximize student productivity just like
effective time management juggling deadlines is a common requirement for
many senior jobs number 4 plan ahead I've said it a million times before on
this channel failing to plan is planning to fail and by not planning your time
you will be sure to waste valuable hours that could be put to better use whether
it's in the form of a calendar diary or application to plan for the coming days
weeks and months this is part and parcel of life as a student my personal
strategy for time planning is the following every night I document each
activity I want to accomplish the next day and allocate what hours of the day I
will do set activities using a method called time blocking this method allows
you to hold yourself accountable and reduces the time spent thinking of what
toss to take on next number 5 eat smart a healthy diet is your brains best
friend we put plenty of strain on our bodies of
students and a great way to combat this drain is the it a nutritious diet my
personal strategy is to eat low carb foods like eggs and
salad while studying to avoid a crash from the overconsumption of carbs but
you should employ the nutrition strategy that works best for you
number 6 get adequate rest as students we often have to sacrifice one of the
following social life studies or sleep well if you want to maximize your
productivity aim to sleep at least eight hours per night sleeping is essential
for healthy brain function and studies suggest that students may even need more
to increase your sleep quality and ramp up your productivity be sure to wind
down at the end of each day and go to bed calm I like to turn off my phone an
hour before bed and read to ensure that I get the deep sleep I need to perform
at my best the following day number seven group your activities where
appropriate certain activities can eat up a lot of
time and grouping them can lead to noticeable time savings I typically like
to throw in a load of laundry before I study so that both get done over the
same time period another combination that has helped me in the past is
reading my notes while I prepare my meals for the week instead of standing
idle watching over the stove talk I can read over my course notes while also
ensuring that my house doesn't burn down therefore where appropriate time and
bundle activities that must get done as long as it does not detract from the
quality of your output thanks for watching if you enjoyed this video
