all of the fundamentals that you need to
running and you know make a great
website in this video what we're gonna
be doing is talking about widgets and
sidebars and basically what they are how
you can use them and how to add them to
your website so without any watch it
chat for me let's get started okay so
let's take a look at widgets now a
widget is basically an element on a
wordpress website and it could be
something like a menu or it could be
your most recent comments or your most
recent posts it could be a calendar to
show you know when you post all that
time so there's plenty of which is
available with WordPress then obviously
there are also some extra ones you can
add with plugins now widgets they
usually sit within a sidebar which is
often found on the side of a website but
they can also be found in the footer in
the header and in other places it really
does depend on which wordpress theme
you're using now in this basic theme
that comes with WordPress there is just
one widget area and that is below the
menu here so we can add some things to
there so to go about adding some widgets
there's two ways doing it and the
easiest way is just to go up to here
where it's got your blog name and to go
to widgets obviously and this way you
can do it whilst looking at the front of
the website which makes it quite easy so
again depending on the theme there will
be a number of widget areas here there's
just one here called widget area so just
expand that then if I click add a widget
we can now start to add some things so
as I said we could add a calendar let's
put that there and we can add another
one let's add our recent posts so we've
got two recent posts and let a third one
just for good measure let's add a search
box and there it is now you can see give
them a tight up just by typing in the
box over here so
search our site you can see that's
appeared there and we can also reorder
the widgets just by dragging them around
so we put the search at the top but then
the recent posts and then the calendar
and there we go got some lovely widgets
down the side of our website when we
finish we just click Save and publish
and that saved and it's all done so just
go back and kick the cross and there's
our lovely widgets in our sidebar I hope
