welcome to my office I don't need to do
a quick vlog basically on WordPress and
try to explain WordPress because it's
about quite a lot in terms of what is
wordpress how does it all fit together
what's the theme also plug in all those
kind of things so what I thought I'd do
is use a car metaphor because I've got a
car it's a DeLorean can you see that I
mean yeah let me focus on that yeah I
don't think that's in focus but I'll use
it anyway and to try and explain what
wordpress is so if WordPress was a car
which of course it's not it's it's a
free piece of software so let's let's
cover that brick first why is WordPress
free okay so WordPress is developed by
thousands of people around the world
found thousands of developers and they
put time into developing it and making
it better for free and the reason they
do that is because it creates a platform
that we as you know the world and just
in general we can use that free platform
to build other things offer services you
know like creating websites and
supporting websites we should also allow
us to make some money and enable people
to create businesses so the platform's
free but often when you need a service
or if you want something a bit fancy
like a premium theme or plugin that so
it obviously you do need to pay a little
bit of money but it's still a lot
cheaper than going to a web developer
and asking them to create a you know a
custom bespoke site few which can cost
thousands and thousands of money
whatever currency your money is pounds
or dollars of whatever euros so if
WordPress was a car let's go back to the
car thing and if let's press was a car
the actual WordPress software would be
the the engine and maybe the the chassis
as well
and so that's your kind of basic shell
and that which you install when you get
for free and it doesn't look that great
or do that much but it's kind of there
for you to then build on and your the
body of the car and all the paint work
in the windows and all that fancy bit
that makes the car look and what it does
you know so you know cars look different
there's different cars that would be the
same wordpress website but with a
different theme so it's the theme that
clinic is the body of a car and that
makes and that's what kind of gives it a
look and feel the colors the style all
that kind of thing now if you wanted
some extras so say this car had you know
like sat nav electric windows it doesn't
it's a toy car but if it did they would
be plugins and the plug-in basically
gives you some extra functionality so
you know you needed four wheel drive
plugin that's ruin those plug-in that
kind of thing so that's our WordPress
it's together you've got the word press
corps which is you kind of your any your
engine and your chassis and you've got
your your body of the car and color and
the paint and all that stuff and all
that kind of thing that's the theme of
your WordPress website and then you've
got the function out to the car electric
windows sat-nav that kind of thing
that's your plugins so that's of quite a
weird metaphor I suppose hosting would
be the petrol that you put in the car
cuz you need hosting in order for it to
run and there we go and people like me
would be the mechanic or something
hopefully that's made lots of sense or
no sense at all either way thanks for
