hello again everybody is Alex here from
WP eagle calm and today I'm going to be
taking you through WordPress SEO in this
first part tutorial I'm going to be
showing you the best plugins to get and
make sure it correct so that your
WordPress site is 100% search engine
friendly so let's get started okay so
what we're looking at here is the WPE
little contest site there's not much on
it just yet but as I go through more and
more tutorials the site's slow together
build up and hopefully you can join me
on that journey as we turn it into a
fully functioning WordPress website okay
so the first thing you need to do in
terms of WordPress SEO is obviously log
in to your WordPress dashboard I've got
it here and the first thing you can
check and you don't need to plug in for
this is the permalink settings of your
blog and basically what these are these
are the URLs that WordPress gives to
your posts and pages and we can make
them more search engine friendly by just
making a change to this setting here so
by default it gives that everything a
number which is not particularly search
engine friendly so what you need to do
is go down and post name isn't too bad
that one works pretty well I like to go
for adding the category as well so when
you've got things nicely organized on
your blog you know the URL reads in a
logical way so to add the category you
put the percentage sign and I'm just
gonna and I think yet it's just the word
category let's just go for that you can
also add whatever you want here but this
is my preferred way of doing it so once
that's done oh and this gone to post
name that needs to be it's called post
ID it needs to be post name just like
that and to do that and then obviously
click Save Changes and that's all done
okay so now we're going to go and
install a SEO plugin the best one and
the most recommended one around the
Internet is
one by yoast so if we just do a quick
search in the plugin area sounds
relatively Yoast SEO now this plug-in
takes care of everything from sitemaps
to page titles your social media links
all those kind of things so yeah it's
one of the best so let's just creaking
so notice the third one down there for a
search that's just going to download
very quickly and it's dual and then
we're done so let's activate that plugin
that's what don't you can allow tracking
if you want or not it's up to you now
the moment this site is blocking robots
so most sites you won't get this morning
but you know it's all the sites ready to
go live you can expect to see that
message this is a setting that's set
within the reading settings so now we've
installed Yoast we get this SEO option
here and let's just have a quick look
what we've got you can subscribe to get
updates from Yoast okay so the first
setting is Google Webmaster Tools and
big webmasters also if you want to
authenticate your sites with these
services and in the second part of this
SEO tutorial I'm gonna be going through
setting up Google Webmaster Tools and
uploading an XML sitemap using this
plugin but for now that main thing you
want to look at is your titles and meta
so the page title is pretty one of the
most important things when it comes to
SEO and that's where you're going to put
the keywords in that you want to rank
for so on your homepage this is where
you're going to set your title so for
example if you're selling blue widgets
you'd probably set your title to be blue
widgets and maybe green which is two if
you sell green widgets and the Meta
Description is going to be the snippet
of text that appears within Google
search results so again you probably
wanna use the keywords that you want to
rank for so you make sure you type them
correctly and then you also want to add
a little bit to kind of attract a click
so available to order
our shipping world why now that's gonna
be what appears on Google and obviously
it's a very well getting ranked but you
also want to get some clicks so your
Meta Description is a great way of
attracting this click so once that's
done click Save Settings if you've got a
Google+ page which I would recommend you
can link it here by entering the idea ID
and if you want to use all for
highlighting again that's when a little
picture of you appears on Google next to
blog post and things you can choose the
the main offer this gonna pop up for the
home page generally the other ones will
be the author of the actual post okay
that's probably really you've got a
whole load more settings in here and
it's kind of setting the basic titles as
a template but the best thing about
Yoast is that you can go into when
you're editing a page if Morphin it got
the sample page at moment but Yoast adds
this great panel here for doing all your
SEO so you can actually do a search for
the keyword for the keyword that you
want to rank for and see if you're
actually searching for it so let's say
we're selling I don't know forms carbon
forms so just from working on that as we
start typing it brings up ideas for for
keywords so it's like that and then I'll
see then we can start typing in our page
type own and it even gives you a nice
little snippet at the top here to show
you what it's going to I can do so as
you see as I'm typing it's for me and
I'm not gonna do it all but you get the
idea and then Yoast will start to score
your page based on how many times you've
used your keyword and whether it's in
the content in the description just here
in the page URL which is up here and you
can even go into more detail once you've
set some focus pages and it will give
you a score so you know she can get that
cut that little like there green that
means you are you really well optimize
the page okay and that's it really for
now so I'll see when you're writing a
blog post make sure you fill in all
these things and you you know you're
halfway there to some good SEO
