i'm going to explain to you what
affiliate marketing is and break it down
into plain easy-to-understand English
for dummies
now affiliate marketing is the process
of earning a commission by promoting
someone else's product or service okay
so by you promoting someone else's
product or service by using what is
called an affiliate link okay which is a
link that you can get from a company a
product the service someone clicks on
that link and then go ahead and buy you
can earn a commission from that now the
way that it works is there's many
different affiliate programs out there
services they have what is called an
affiliate program and the affiliate
program is basically a program they have
that give other people the ability to
join for free and promote their product
and earn a commission okay so when you
join an affiliate program you'll get
what is called an affiliate link okay
which is a special link that will allow
you know the company to track to see
which sales were produced by you who
clicked on your link and went ahead and
purchased so that they can track that
and make sure that you get paid for
promoting the product okay so with
technology with the affiliate links it's
pretty accurate it's about like 99%
accurate of course there are some
circumstances where things might not be
tracked perfectly but for the most part
you get it you get a commission for
promoting that product now
affiliate marketing is a great thing and
the reason why it's so valuable to get
started with online is because you don't
have to create a product you don't have
to create a service you don't have to be
the expert you don't even have to really
sell the product because basically what
you're doing is you're sharing a product
or service with people that you might
know family members friends your lists
or subscribers or followers whatever
might be you're sharing a product or
service with them or you're endorsing
something and when they click the link
they're going to go to the other
person's website for the product or the
service and that's going to sell them
that's going to then sell them on the
product or service uh you know they
already have the
they've already done all the marketing
for it they have the customer support
they have the delivery of the product
and so for you you basically just get
paid by sending traffic someone else's
way by sending people your visitors your
subscribers your whatever it is just by
sharing and then you make money in
exchange for that and affiliate
marketing is always a win-win for
everybody involved it's a win for the
company because the company has now
acquired a customer or a sale that they
previously would have never gotten if it
wasn't for you it's a win for you
because you've got to earn money and a
commission with doing very little effort
because you didn't have to come up with
the idea you didn't have to take the
risk you didn't have to invent something
you didn't have to be the expert you
didn't have to spend all the time the
money to create all the marketing the
website all that sort of stuff and you
get you know you easily get paid just by
leveraging you know your subscribers or
followers or list or traffic in some way
and it's a win for the customer because
the customer now gets to benefit from
the product or service they get a
benefit and hopefully the product you
know solves a problem meets their need
helps them out in some way okay so it's
oh you know affiliate marketing is a
great thing every every successful
business owner that I know of they
leverage affiliate marketing because it
just makes sense if you've got a
business selling supplements let's say
you know master expertise then it makes
sense to maybe find information products
or digital products that can complement
that that you can also promote and earn
money from or maybe you know if you have
an audience of people that are in the
health and fitness you know maybe you're
not going to invent a blender like the
Vitamix and you can just enjoy their
affiliate program and promote their
blender instead you know maybe there's
fitness equipment you know that you
don't want to invent and create like
p90x or insanity or Beachbody and now
you can just join the affiliate program
and earn a commission from that or maybe
there's something complimentary that you
can promote earn a commission from so
basically what it is is you're
partnering your joint venturing with
other businesses and companies and it's
incredible thing and your whole job is
an affiliate your whole focus is just
getting traffic getting visitors getting
subscribers
right and you know is it you only have
to focus on that to start with and you
know eventually if you choose you can
create your own products if you want
your own services but I feel like
marketing is just a great way to get
started because you don't have to take
any of the risk right you know creating
a business and creating a product or an
idea is very can be very risky you might
fail
it might not work out it might you know
cost you a lot of money a lot of time
you got to have customer support there's
a lot of overhead and expenses that are
involved with that whereas if instead
you just build and focusing a blow-up
focus on building a blog or a YouTube
channel or a Facebook page or Instagram
or snapchat or you focus on one you know
are a few streams of marketing to
attract people to you you can then
easily funnel people into other people's
products and earn a lot of money by
doing that okay examples of affiliate
programs are like Amazon Amazon is the
number one online retailer and Amazon
has an affiliate program called Amazon
Associates and anybody can join it it's
free uh you basically you go to
amazon.com slash associates and you
could do a Google search word as well
but you sign up you join and then you
basically now can promote any product on
Amazon we're never product you decide to
promote they'll give you a unique
affiliate link okay which is a special
link just for you that you're going to
use to put it on your blog then put it
on your Facebook you can put it any
email you can put it on Twitter could
put it on YouTube you use that link
let's say you know for a TV or something
like that and when someone clicks that
link and they go and buy
you earn a commission from that okay and
every affiliate program is different you
know it with Amazon for example because
it's physical products they'll give you
five to ten percent commission it starts
off you know and then it slowly goes up
as more products that you sell amazon's
affiliate program though i should pay
you for every product that someone buys
within 24 hours after clicking your
affiliate link so for example if someone
buys a TV right they buy a couple
thousand dollar TV you're going to earn
a five to ten percent commission on that
but also people they don't just buy one
thing they're going to maybe buy a
wall-mount they might buy you know an
apple
they might buy PlayStation 4 they might
buy you know DVD player and stuff and so
you'll earn Commission for all those
additional products that they buy within
24 hours which is pretty cool right
eBay has an affiliate program there's
affiliate networks where you can
actually look at a whole marketplace of
products that you want to you know
promote and earn a commission from you
know so most most products there's
affiliate programs for I haven't come
across too many where there's not um
which is just really cool because you
know you can share things that might you
might have benefited from or help you or
can help other people and you can easily
earn money and a commission from that
and again without having to take all the
risk and without having to try to sell
someone you know a lot of people don't
like to sell in fact you know I've been
able to build a very successful online
business and affiliate marketing is one
of the top streams of income that I have
in my business and I've been able to
earn millions of dollars just by
promoting other people's products and
it's always a win-win because I create
and sell my own products but it's a lot
of time you know takes me months and a
lot of money and time and energy to
create my own product right so it's not
you can only do so much of that whereas
affiliate marketing means that I have
people that follow me online I've got
subscribers I got traffic I got visitors
and there's things that benefit me why
not share that with other people why not
share a product or service that's helped
me in my life and earn a commission and
doing so and so again it's a win-win for
everybody involved you know and other
people get to support you in that
process too which is really cool so an
example is you know I've got a Vitamix
blender which is a $500 blender I love
it I use it every day make my smoothies
they have an affiliate program they'll
pay I think 15% Commission which is I
think you get paid like 70 bucks and I
can create a video I can create content
I can share people and if they click the
link and they decide to purchase I get
commissioned for that which is really
cool um you know or maybe the camera
equipment and I'm recording this on
right now people always ask hey what
camera do you use
well there is the one that I use and
here's a link and you go click the link
and you buy I can earn a little
commission from that so it's a really
cool process because I didn't have to
invent the
camera I didn't have to invent the
Vitamix I don't have to ship it deliver
it do all the stuff involved with it
again it's working smarter and it's
leveraging now there's a few things to
be aware of when it comes to affiliate
marketing number one everything is
usually tracked through an affiliate
link in some cases it could be maybe a
coupon code or something like that to
help track because you know if you send
someone to someone else's website and
they purchase there's got to be a way to
track that it's going to be a way to
verify that that person purchased
because of you so that you can get
compensated for that and so what is
often used is an affiliate link which is
again a link that's unique to you that
you can use in your marketing that
people click through and they go ahead
and purchase the affiliate link has a
few flaws to it and it's very minor but
it's important to be aware of um so for
example let's say that I have an
affiliate link and you click on my
affiliate link and let's say that you
decide to you know you you know you go
to the website you decide not to
purchase just yet and you decide you're
using Google Chrome browser let's say
and then you just decide to use a
different browser you know you decide to
use Firefox well if you buy from a
different browser and it's not tracked
to my affiliate link then I'm not going
to get a commission for that okay so
that's something that can occur or
something because what happens is
something clicks the affiliate link
there's what is called a cookie that's
placed on their computer on their
browser and it's going to track based on
that so someone clears their cookies or
cash in their browser then you know the
tracking will disappear or someone uses
a different browser let's say someone
goes to the website and they want to
think about it and then instead they use
their iPhone or their iPad or whatever
they buy that way then again it's a
different device so it's not tracked
perfectly there so you can miss out on a
few sales and commissions if that
happens that's a potential downside is
really minor though it's not a big deal
but it can't happen and the other thing
to be aware of which is actually a
really great thing is that like I said
when someone clicks on an affiliate link
a cookie is placed on their browser and
that will track
usually for up to 30 days some might be
60 days or longer and others like Amazon
they track within 24 hours so what that
means is that if you click on my
affiliate link and you go to the product
and you decide that you don't want to
purchase it just yet you want to think
about it
you want to do some more research and
then you decide ok you know I want to
buy it you go back two weeks later three
weeks later you decide to purchase well
as long as that cookie is still on your
browser I'm going to get credit for that
sale even though you purchased third you
know 30 days after clicking my affiliate
link so that's a really cool thing
because you know some people might not
buy right away and you can still earn a
commission from that now there's another
little bit of a flaw when it comes to
affiliate links is that let's say that
somebody clicks your affiliate link and
then they decide to do research and then
find someone else has a video or a blog
post and they have an affiliate link and
they click on their link after clicking
on yours well then they're going to get
the commission for that because it's
based on the last click right the last
the last affiliate link that that person
clicked so that's a little bit of a flaw
as well it's hard to prevent that things
like that can occur and there's there's
actually a some more advanced strategies
of what you can do to get around that um
you know I you know other things that I
teach and stuff but that's basically how
affiliate marketing works and I love it
you know it's a great way to make money
uh you know I've done very well as an
affiliate because in some cases I'm not
the expert in certain things or I don't
have you know I don't have all the
answers and so I can refer and share to
other people that do and and I just you
know certain products that I buy and
invest in and they have affiliate
programs and I can share that people and
earn a little commission from that too
as well and I think one of the best
benefits of affiliate marketing by the
way one of my favorites is that you can
use a lot of the things that you're
purchasing as a business expense and so
you can write it off and you can pay
less money in taxes at the end of the
year because any cost that's incurred
for business to make more money is an
expense for that business so for example
you know buying a Vitamix blender you
know that's a 500 or blender I can have
my business pay for that I can
we use that as a business expense
because I'm an affiliate and I promoted
the blender and I've earned money in
doing so so you know it gives you the
ability to write off a lot of things so
you might have and that's one of the
amazing benefits of doing affiliate
marketing and having an online business
so hopefully this has been helpful for
