Gary Ryan Blair Interview On The 100 Day Challenge - Part 2 (Special Bonus!)

you have a six thousand dollar gap
ultimately you need to look at every
single goal from the standpoint of what
was the intended outcome what do they
say I was going to achieve and where are
my results today and what are you going
to do in order to close that gap it what
I tell people is my job is to do just
that is to show you how to close that
gap quickly and that's where a lot of
these execution strategies come in okay
cool so you know one thing I really want
to just kind of maybe explain to people
a little bit about more is the hundred a
challenge and basically this is a
program that you've created that helps
people achieve goals set goals and
everything did you tell people maybe
it's a little bit you know why you
created this may be a little bit more
details about what it is because maybe
there's a lot of people that just don't
know exactly what it is is it you know
videos or you know what is it exactly
and just the history about it i'll be
happy to the history is you know I knew
many of the people who are listening or
probably starting their own business or
anything else so I want to speak to that
and give you a unique perspective as to
why i started the citizen when i started
it um i spent a lot of time initially
this was just truly is the genesis up at
seven I am I was looking at the annual
marketing calendar and I was consumed
with the idea of how do i own and
dominate a specific date a moment in
time and very much the same way that we
have Mother's Day and Father's Day and
Groundhog's Day and Valentine's Day
these are either manufactured events
that were done by these large
corporations in order to sell stuff I
mean or some type of a non-profit it's
all it is and most of the holidays was
designed around that however and this is
a big however everybody who's a smart
marketer will find a way with which to
be able to leverage the annual marketing
calendar and the beautiful part about it
is it is predictable it's evergreen so
that's what the keywords that I was
going with was predictable evergreen but
what I was interested in was a very
unique position that no one else owned
something that I could go out and claim
an elbow everybody out
the original start date for this with
September 23rd September 23rd besides
for leap year that represents the final
100 days of the year and like every good
holiday it needs a good story so the
story for me was pretty simple and I
think that's the beauty of this focused
and simple its elegant 265 days down a
hundred days to go what's the score and
if you are now 265 days into this game
to this new year and you are below
target you may as well just kiss your
behind good money if you don't make some
changes now so the whole message was
about finishing strong what are you
gonna do to finish strong and I can tell
you from the first year i've done this
it has taken off like a rocket to the
point in time where I mean it's it's
tripled and quadrupled and it just
continues to increase in size um ngate
gained a lot of worldwide stature where
this is going to run for many many many
years I'm really stoked about it so what
is the program that's the genesis of it
does that answer least one other
question yeah yeah yeah um going on it
is for this um everybody is familiar
with stuff like p90x but me a great show
this is it's off the air right now but
call extreme home makeover an extremely
maker were was a fantastic example of
what the holiday challenge is all about
it's a deadline in this case they had
seven days to build a house now for most
people and anything about it is the
story that most people got when they
watch these shows was the story that
would the story line and that's what ABC
wanted you to do I wasn't all that
interested in the story line I was
interested how the hell did they do this
how do you build a house enough in seven
days when I'd like to buy took me two
years to build my house you know what
I'm saying I mean it's just it just
amazing so this is a classic example of
what you would call time compression
massive time compression and my thinking
was okay you can sign up for mortgage
and sign up for 30 years or 20 years why
I suggest yourself to that type of abuse
for the bank or whatever your learnings
institution is
find a way to pay it off in a hundred
days if you've got a sales goal you know
why not try to turn here and your entire
last year's income okay and and match
that in the first hundred days of 2014
and until you ask big bold aggressive
ferocious type of questions you'll never
find the chops to be able to rise to
that challenge so the hardy challenges
was really based around the idea that
how can I create an extreme performance
acceleration kind of like a p90x for
your body that really showed people how
to edit kick ass and make some huge
progress in a very short period of time
and the components are the mechanism of
it we could get into that if you like
but that's really the idea behind it
yeah it's awesome so basically you're
saying is by having a specific deadline
we basically you know I've heard the
saying you know pressure creates
diamonds and we're in that position
where we have that deadline and you
create that pressure that leverage on
herself then we're more likely to
perform at a higher level to get it done
by that deadline value so yeah I am
let's look at it this way you know
there's two you have to look at this
from the standpoint of internal and
external okay everybody that you do
business with brings a deadline to the
table what I mean by that is your
mortgage bills your credit card
statements your student loans all of
that stuff there is a time by which you
need to perform or they're going to hold
you accountable and there will be a
consequence associated with it
essentially this is what you would call
forced compliance we're going to force
you to honor your commitment yet when it
comes to your own goals own hopes your
dreams retiring early send your kids to
private school having a flat stomach
River ins you want to do okay there is
no deadlines associated with any of
these and no one cares there is
absolutely no one that has any vested
interest in your goals whatsoever good
to tell you this needs to be done by
this date and deadlines and the two
people wake up and realize that
deadlines are not negative it's not the
type of thing where you sit back and say
I work best at the last minute that is
just a bunch of crap because you work
sloppy as at the last minute you cut the
most corners a deadline essentially
means this that i am going to honor my
commitment by this date that this will
be done
we'll make this type of change in my
life and we need to take a much more
seriously but if you look and this is a
beauty with this you would get just
about most of these shows that people
watch on TV again it blows my mind they
don't pay attention to really the
mechanics of getting results but the
food channel is a great example there's
the Iron Chef there is Cupcake Wars is
all of these different things will take
place but the driving mechanism that get
these people to do extraordinary results
to create a a seven-course meal in 60
minutes is that friggin deadlines and
intense competition we read that in our
lives we see it displayed we know that
works but yet most people are completely
absent of a challenge emotionally
physically spiritually and financially
but we need that in order to perform to
the best of our abilities in the same
way that you watch a spreading event and
two teams they got a similar goal if
they're working towards you will see
competition at its highest level and and
again every sport team 24-second clock
you can we say no but for so long you've
got to hike the ball within a couple of
seconds everything but when see you look
around is deadline-driven all design to
create a performance that's what it is
yeah very true so you know most people
they know about goal-setting you know
that red maybe a self-help book or you
mentioned Brian Tracy Tony Robbins and I
think a lot of people are go yeah I know
about goal setting or at least I know
that was what it was like for me you
know I thought I knew how to set goals
and all that but woody what makes this
program different what makes it more
unique well a number of things there's
consistency from beginning to end it was
designed with one core purpose of mine
how do you make traumatic performance
gains in a hundred days there is a
strong value proposition revolving
around this now here's the thing it's
it's not going to be quick obviously
it's not going to be easy it can require
a lot of hard work and you know it's a
type of thing where you're going to get
some serious results but you've got to
go to work on it but going back to the
whole thing um I spend a lot of time
sitting back and thinking through what
are the issues how do you have it had a
tiny truly teach somebody how to go
about setting a goal that all of that is
explained in the program and I read give
a little bit of that information so you
understand that the methodology
at the beginning the rest of it really
comes down to execution but let me give
everybody an example let's use the best
symbols in society a gold medal at the
Olympics an X game type of ribbon this
could be an Eagle Scout and the Boy
Scouts could be a black belt in karate
you mean whatever it is a Congressional
Medal of Honor or bronze or silver star
these are symbols of personal excellence
that's it there's symbols of personal
excellence now there's a couple of
things you need to strip away from that
number one they must be earned you can't
just go out and buy it you can't fake it
you just can't go out yeah maybe you can
pick it up on ebay but the fact of the
matter is you'll be the fraud if you
walk along with it that way you've got
to earn it now what does it mean what
does it symbolize when you look at a
girl or a ribbon or a green jacket at
the master it symbolizes personal
excellence it symbolizes commitment it's
simple I just focus it can symbolize
this accountability and symbolizes
overcoming obstacles it symbolizes
consistency going the extra mile all
that is good and virtuous about the
human condition more importantly it
symbolizes somebody with a rock hard
Constitution and a good character
ultimately gold setting comes down to
your ability to consistently enforced
values virtues that which is that which
allows you to perform at the best of
your abilities and this program what it
does is it drips on you every single day
a specific lesson with a specific action
that you need to do in order to advance
the ball forward it's very is but a lot
of time and as you know going through it
it's very well designed and and it's
consistent from front end back there's
not a there's not a dud lesson if you
will in this entire program yeah and
that's why I love it so much and that's
why I've been participating every years
because every time I've done it just
taking my results to a whole new level
and it's just and I think to some extent
we can hold ourselves accountable but it
becomes a lot more powerful when you
have an external source whether it's a
program like this or is having a coach
or a mentor and I think that's another
core component of performance if you
look at professional athlete so whatever
they have a coach or you know you look
at the life coaching industry which has
become so big now but I found 100 hm
just a more affordable way of doing it
to get massive results in a short period
of time and I just want to mention to
actually one thing that I find to be one
of the most valuable elements of it is
the after action review which is
basically I think it's every 14 days or
so where you have to review your goals
and the results that you've had and
everything and I think that's one thing
that's missing for a lot of people and
they set goals is they don't actually
like you know measure the results on an
ongoing basis to see okay inhale on the
right track do i need to change anything
am I going off course and I found that
to be one of the most benefit beneficial
parts of it the only thing to say about
that yeah I do let me tell you where
that came from it's not so much that it
was a ripoff it was an adaptation but
when I built the business I you know I
was fortunate to be in a good financial
position that I could design this the
way that I wanted to do I didn't need to
mimic anybody else that was out there
and what I mean by that is my clean base
consists of Olympic athletes consists of
of Special Forces uh you know Green
Berets Army Rangers Navy SEALs Olympic
and just people at the top of the field
I surround myself with excellence and
best practices so I'm very fortunate to
be able to see what people do in a
life-or-death experience and how do they
extract that knowledge and information
so working with the military even even
the discus goes down in for fighter
pilots they do a debrief they do an
after action review and if you think
about it it's not a better example of a
life of death experience these guys have
to execute flawlessly and I always
always look for the most extreme example
and why they're getting results and say
how do I learn from that how can i
implement that into the into the
challenge or anything else I'm doing for
a client so in this case you know and
after action review is just that it is
an opportunity for you to sit back and
analyze what was the intended outcome
what was the mission what was the
outcome what exactly took place why did
it take place what did we do right and
what did we do wrong what do we need to
do differently in order to get a better
performance and
really why this is so important it's not
a very difficult set of questions you
have to do it but the fact is if you do
not continue to ask yourself what did
you do wrong and what will you do
differently next time you will continue
to repeat the same mistakes year after
year decade after decade and there's a
lot of people who are now 45 or 55
making the same stupid mistakes they did
one or 25 because they never learn the
lessons and the fact is pain once pain
once for a mistake for a failure for a
bonehead move don't pay and repeat it
for the rest of your life and the only
way you're going to find out about that
is through that discipline but I'm glad
you brought it up yeah so importa
