hey this is stefan from
projectlifemastery.com and today i want
to share with you a goal-setting formula
that's really served me throughout the
years and helping me achieve a lot of my
goals and I'm also going to address a
common question that a lot of people
have about goal-setting which is whether
or not it should set goals that are more
unrealistic or more realistic because
there are two different schools of
thoughts and I know a lot of people are
confused now some people say you should
set goals that are unrealistic
unattainable that are huge that are
massive the bigger the goal is the
better that if you shoot for the moon
you'll land amongst the stars sort of
thing
and other people say you should set
goals that are more realistic that are
more attainable that you know and that
you believe you can achieve you know
spelling the Smart acronym specific
measurable attainable realistic having a
timeline and I know for myself years ago
I started reading books on goal-setting
and I was just massively confused I read
the magic of believing by Claude and
Bristol to the 10x rule to thinking Grow
Rich and all the different goal-setting
books out there and you know there's
just different schools of thought and I
found myself frustrated by that and what
I did was I actually applied it and
what works best for me so when it comes
to goal-setting here's what I believe I
believe that you need both you need
goals that are unrealistic but also
realistic and attainable
however the goals that are unrealistic I
think what a lot of the books and people
fail to do is it give you the context
for that I believe you should have
unrealistic goals but those are
long-term goals those are goals that are
over 10 plus years from now that are
part of your vision and if you guys
follow my working you know that I'm huge
on having a vision for your life and
your vision is whatever you want it to
be you can be totally unrealistic it
could be you know you want to go to
space you want to be an astronaut you
want to be a multi-millionaire you want
to you know live a certain lifestyle or
live in a mansion or have a certain car
or a private jet or a yacht or whatever
that might be you know you want to have
those goals because those unrealistic
goals that are a part of your dream is
really what drives you long-term that's
really what excites you that you're
moving towards something big and those
are goals though that aren't
a short timeframe because the big
mistake that I see a lot of people make
is they set these unrealistic goals in a
short timeframe you know I want to make
I want to get rich quick you know I want
to make $100,000 or quit my job in the
first 30 days of starting an online
business I'm realistic when I want to
lose 30 pounds in the next ten days or I
want to you know make a million dollars
this year and they've never made $10,000
in a year or $100,000 in a year and so
the mistake is that when you set goals
that are so unrealistic in a short
timeframe then really what you're doing
is you're setting yourself up for
failure and this is what I used to do I
see people that do this all the time
because I coached people and they send
me their goals and a lot of the goals
that I see they're just not realistic
goals they set goals and and they want
to make all this money in a short
timeframe or they want to achieve a
certain result in such a short timeframe
and they've never they've never achieved
anything before in business that never
achieved anything before financially or
or with their health or whatever it
might be and what happens is they set
those unrealistic goals there might be
excited at first they're moving towards
that making progress they believe it but
sure enough they come up short they fail
and whenever you fail they give
themselves paying for that they feel
like a failure and they beat themselves
up and so they set the next goal and the
next goal is also unrealistic and sure
enough the same thing happens but they
come up short and they're not achieving
their goals you should never be in a
situation when you're not achieving your
goals that's telling us something's
wrong either with your process or if the
goal that you set for yourself just
being too unrealistic or too
unattainable because every time that
they set these goals they keep coming up
short then you're telling your brain why
even set goals why even go for it you
already know in advance that whenever
you set this goal that you're not going
to achieve it you have no confidence you
have no belief in it because your
history tells you you're after year
after year you've been setting these
goals for yourself and you're not
achieving them so what reason do you
have to believe that you're gonna
achieve the next one and I actually
believe it's detrimental it's really
unhealthy to be doing that because you
can end up sabotaging yourself for your
future and you get to a point of learned
helplessness where you think why even
bother why even try so you've got to
have two unrealistic ones but they're
ten years out you do have to have
realistic and attainable ones and I
think this has been the key for me when
I realized and recognized this when I
set goals for myself their goals that I
know and believe that I can achieve in
fact most the goals that I set for
myself it's inevitable
I'm already on progress to achieving
those goals and their goals that you
know they might seem big now to you guys
but when I first started they're so
small you know my first goal really when
I start an online business was to make
one dollar one dollar one sale you know
that's not anything that that exciting
but that was my goal I knew I could
achieve that don't it was a definitely
more achievable it's more realistic for
me than making $100,000 $100,000 was
intimidating to me and I was like man
like how am I gonna wrap my head around
that but a dollar
anyone can make a buck online you know
and once I achieved that and I said okay
how can I make a hundred dollars online
and then once I achieve that then how
can I make a thousand dollars in two
thousand dollars and I slowly started to
up the ante in goals that I set that I
knew were achievable and attainable for
myself
so here's the formula here's what I
found that works really well for me and
I learned this a long time ago when I
was spending the law of attraction and I
don't quite remember where I learned
this from but it really stuck out with
me and really made a difference so with
every goal that you set yourself there
has to be a formula for it and there's
two parts to it which is desire and
belief
okay desire and belief so if you set a
goal for yourself whatever goal is that
you have set and hopefully you have
goals for yourself take it one of your
goals and I want you to assess it on
this formula so first when it comes to
desire when ever goal you set on a scale
from one to 10
you want the level of desire to be a 7
or above okay so whenever that goal is
the desire hat for that goal the desire
the motivation map towards it has to at
least be a seven eight nine or ten okay
if it's less than a seven then you need
a new goal you need a goal it's gonna
have more desire more excitement for you
okay so for example you might have a
goal to make a million dollars or desire
might be a tenth awesome okay you might
have high desire for that but there's a
second piece which is belief the belief
that you need to have for this goal that
you can achieve it that you can make
this happen and that time frame you have
for it has to also be a seven eight nine
or a ten out of ten
okay so on a scale from one to ten as at
least a seven or above so you might have
a goal that that you have a ten out of
ten desire for that you want to make a
million dollars a year but now you've
never you never made fifty thousand
dollars in a year and you have this goal
and I might ask you what's your level of
belief for that your belief might be a
one or a two
well if your belief is that low then
it's not a good goal for you either
you've got to hit that sweet spot okay
at the same time if you have a goal you
know I'm gonna make maybe a dollar
online your belief for it might be a 10
but maybe your desire is like a to not
that motivated to make a dollar online
so that's why you've got to find that
sweet spot you know all the goals that I
set for myself I always make sure on the
level of a desire and belief it's at
least a seven out of ten or a greater
okay that is the sweet swaps sweet spot
having the desire having the belief this
is the formula for Law of Attraction as
well if you want to attract things in
your life you've got to have both of
that because if you don't have the
belief then you're not going to take any
action if you don't believe it you can
make it happen that you can do it then
you're not going to take the necessary
actions you're not going to keep going
you're not gonna push yourself to
persevere when it gets tough and if you
don't have the desire then you're not
going to take the action either so
that's why you've got to have that good
sweet spot a belief and desire for every
that you set for yourself so I always
make sure that my goals that our
one-year goals always fit within that
formula and there are always goals that
I know I can achieve realistic when I
started this process like I said it was
small and then as I built up my belief
as I built that up and I achieve those
goals and I started to get on a winning
streak
I started get confidence I got momentum
because every goal that I'd said I was
achieving maybe 80 80 or 90 and we're
setting the goals that I said even to
this day if you look at my goals reports
I achieve what eating the not 90% the
goals that I set for myself because I
don't go off and set goals that are just
way beyond what I think I believe and
what I think I can achieve I'm just
slowly making progress month after month
year after year with my goals
I'm not taking big leaps slow and steady
guys
that's what wins the race so that's the
formula has worked well for me every
time I need bigger picture motivation I
look at my vision those unrealistic
goals that I have for myself and you
know what you'll find is that you know
within 10 years 20 years those
unrealistic goals are actually more
realistic the more attainable because
you can achieve anything in 10 years 20
years 30 years from now 40 years from
now I know a lot of you guys watching
this or that follow me are really young
and when you're young and you're you
know you're a teenager and twenties or
even 30s or 40s even 50s you got so much
ahead of you you got so much more life
ahead that it's amazing what you can
accomplish but it just starts by
starting small and help setting those
goals and achieving them getting that
confidence momentum from it so that
you're not setting yourself up to fail
that I see what so many people do and
you reward yourself you celebrate every
goal that you've achieved along the way
and that's what gives you more
confidence to grow bigger and bigger and
bigger from that so hoping this can help
you guys and serve you and setting your
goals in the future for future years
feature months future quarters I know
it's been something that's made a big
difference for me and what I continue to
do and the goals are gonna see from me
moving forward just like what I've done
for the last few years that I've shared
with you guys there's goals that I just
slowly moved the needle
you know I'm not moving it so
significantly in a huge way but it's
just slowly moving it to a level that is
still outside my comfort zone it's a bit
of a stretch for me but I still know
that I can achieve it it's still
attainable for me in that way that I
know I can achieve it so hopefully this
helps you guys thank you so much for
watching this video subscribe for more
videos and I'll talk to you again soon
take care
you
