another Q&A video where I answer your
guys's questions to the best of my
ability I've got a question here from
Mike and Mike wants to know what's the
best way for me to get started with the
physical products business on Amazon
alright so a great question Mike I'm
going to do the best that I can to
answer this question for you for those
of you that don't know I've been selling
on Amazon well first as a publisher for
over six years now
and then as a physical product seller
with FDA fulfillment by Amazon for a
boat I get started in 2014 so I've been
doing that for a few years and I've also
business online she's been doing for
about two and a half years now and does
really well and my brother and many
other entrepreneurs and friends that I
got and people that have coached and
worked with and so I can share with you
a little bit about the steps that I took
the steps that I recommend for people
that can allow them to have the most
success starting this type of business
one I think it's a great business to be
in
one thing I'll mention is don't just
view the business as a physical process
or as an Amazon business but I want you
to view it something bigger than that I
want you to view it as just Amazon is
the starting point Amazon is a platform
that you leverage you utilize to launch
a product onto whatever that product
might be and I'll share a little bit of
the process for that but Amazon is a
great way for that because they've got
millions of customers they've got the
distribution they've got the trust the
relationship millions of people use
Amazon to buy products they've already
got their credit card set up in Amazon
they've got the one-click Buy Amazon is
just a great opportunity cuz they do a
lot of the heavy lifting for you but at
the same time I don't want you just to
limit yourself to Amazon start on Amazon
but I also need to think bigger than
that I want you to think building a
brand building a brand that is
diversified and not just dependent on
Amazon because the Amazon is great but
at the same time there's some
limitations to
selling on Amazon one is that you're
primarily building up Amazon and even
though they give you a lot of advantages
and benefits the downside of that is
that they don't view it as your business
they view it as their business and so
Amazon is always going to do what's in
the best interest for them Amazon for
example they don't give you the customer
email address and they don't allow you
to interact with an email the customer
outside of Amazon because they want to
keep that to themselves they want people
to keep buying on Amazon and they want
you to sell on Amazon but also promote
Amazon so that they can build their
business and sell more products etc you
get the customer of address and phone
number as well but you don't get their
email address and so while Amazon is
great use them start your business there
you know if you want if you want to do
physical products at the same time I'm
going to think once I build it up and
I've launched on Amazon how can I also
maybe sell my own website maybe I could
have an e-commerce store on my wordpress
blog and it could be WooCommerce which
is a theme and plugins that you can get
for a wordpress blog that allows you to
sell on your own website maybe you can
start doing Shopify as well so that you
have your own store there and then also
maybe you know if you're building a
relationship with people and a specific
niche you can branch off and do
affiliate marketing maybe there's an
information marketing component to this
business as well so for example if you
decided that you want to start selling
yoga mats you want to be in a yoga niche
right and you decided cable and the yoga
nice the physical products that can
launch our yoga mats and yoga blocks and
yoga you know what else is there
yoga apparel and towels and all the
different types of yoga products and the
different colors great maybe you build
that as a great business awesome but if
you've got customers there into yoga
maybe also at the same time you can
monetize that even further and maybe
create a yoga training course maybe some
yoga information some yoga books some
yoga video series of yoga YouTube
channel yoga podcast yoga social media
channel you know or maybe if you don't
want to do that you can be in a
Billy by promoting someone else's yoga
products because your audience loves
that they're into yoga so why not try to
think how you can diversify your income
build multiple killers almost like a
Parthenon right you got multiple pillars
of income you're not just a Pannell and
Amazon and what I'm trying to say to you
Mike is to think bigger think bigger
not just Amazon think bigger than that
because that's what's going to give you
the long-term advantage that's what's
going to allow you to prosper the next
ten years twenty years thirty years and
you gotta be thinking ahead and that way
or that's what's going to allow you to
build a big business that eventually
sell it one day if you wanted to take
that path as well okay so don't just
limit yourself to think an Amazon thinks
bigger than that okay all right so how
do you get started so Amazon is the best
way to get started if you want to do
physical products
I recommend private labeling products
meaning excuse me you don't have to
worry about patents you don't have to
worry about inventing a product or
anything like that through the private
label process excuse me essentially what
you're doing is you're finding product
out there that already exists and that
already sell and then you're putting
your own logo and packaging on it your
own branding on that product and then
you're selling it so for example
supplements right you can find
wholesalers you can find manufacturers
that already manufacture supplements any
supplement you can think of and then you
can go to them and just contact them and
say hey listen I'd like the private
label the product they'll send you all
the information the price how much it
costs you know for a certain supplement
let's say if you want to order 500 units
or a thousand units of that or even 100
units this is what its cost and then
they're going to say great will send us
your packaging your logo your packaging
of what you want on it and then we'll
manufacture that for you and then we'll
ship it to you I'll ship it to Amazon's
fulfillment centers and then you can set
up your Amazon listing and now you're
selling supplements on Amazon under
their own brand the same thing can be
applied for a yoga mat you know you can
oftentimes for most products you want to
go overseas specifically to China
unless it's a consumable or something
you put on your skin or something you
ingest in some way because often times
you want to source that domestically
just because there might be some
regulations around that I do supplements
and I source some from the United States
and that's a whole different story but
for example if you want to do yoga mats
if you go to a website like Alibaba calm
head on over there
typing yoga mats you're going to find
all these suppliers in China and they're
all going to have different qualities
and whatnot you can ask them to send you
a sample check out the sample you're
just going to pay for the shipping
oftentimes and you get a bunch of
samples from different manufacturers you
decide which yoga mat you liked the best
and which is the most the best pricing
and that's relationship communication
many factors that go into it but you'd
pick one and you say great you know I'm
going to do business with you I'm going
to place an order here of a hundred yoga
mats in this size this quality product
this color
you know maybe start off with the black
yoga mat and you tell them a case here's
the logo that I want you to put on the
mat the details of that they do that and
then they send it to Amazon Fulfillment
Center and then you set up your Amazon
listing you start selling it okay that
can be done for almost any product
almost like millions and millions of
products but I think what you got to do
before that is you've got to really
decide on the niche that you want to
build your business in what's the niche
what's the market what's the topic the
genre that you really want to build your
business in and there's typically a
criteria that you want to follow you
know there's actually a lot to it if you
want to do a lot of research because
this is one of the most important steps
you want to make sure you pick a niche
that has certain products you can sell
in that niche that have high demand on
Amazon that are profitable you got to
make sure that the niche it makes sense
that you know what the costs are and
your end and then what you can sell it
for that there's you know ideally you
know up to a 50% profit margin net say
that is what you want to aim for though
I know some businesses is only 30% but
make sure there's a healthy profit
margin there
you know make sure that the products
aren't do heavy or shipping because that
can cost more money make sure the
product is not going to break you should
know when you ship the product there's a
number of factors you really want to
look at to make that decision and making
sure you know I'll be aware of the
competition and you know a number of
different things but I think one um one
criteria a lot of people don't focus
enough on is making sure also it's a
niche that has that potential long term
how's that potential like I said that if
you build it up and you start with one
product what would be the next product
what would be the third product the
fourth product would be the product
lineup that you'd have what would that
lead you into you would that maybe lead
you into maybe eventually uh you know
having information products or doing
affiliate marketing or publishing books
right or maybe there's a software
component that you can add value to and
just really researching the niche in
general I think a lot of people they
just look at a product they're not
looking at the bigger picture
so that's one thing I'd recommend that
you do so that you can build a brand and
then also think about okay well if this
is the niche that I want to do then how
can i market in this niche what are all
the different ways of marketing that
exists for this meat is it social media
marketing is it Instagram is this
Facebook is it Pinterest is it YouTube
is a blogging and think about ideas
there then I'd also even think do I have
an interest or a passion in this nature
this a niche that I'm going to be
passionate you committed to long term
not just to make money from but
something match see interested in myself
that maybe I could be the face of the
brand I can create content on this I can
blog about it I could create videos on
it because that's going to give you a
huge huge advantage I've done that for
my products because I'm passionate about
them I shared videos and content on it
and I can stand by shirts my friends my
family and you know it's something that
sells well because of that my girlfriend
does that with her product she loves it
so she is really involved in wearing it
and using their product and sharing it
with people and she does youtube videos
on it social media so she has a huge
advantage over everyone else because
she's willing to put herself out there
and to market the product
and share it with people I've got a
friend James he's got these blue block
and glasses that he wears and he's just
loves um he wears them everywhere people
ask about them he does videos and social
media talking about them and everything
and so you know it's a product that he
he uses himself and he has a passion for
and as a result he's been able to build
his business so much bigger because of
that so that is one criterion something
I think about as well as a long-term
potential where you could take it what
you can do with it okay
I think that's an important thing if
it's a supplement in the fitness market
like me maybe hey you think hey I've got
these customers that buy my product
maybe I can also create a fitness
program or maybe I could partner or be
an affiliate for other fitness
instructors or trainers or products that
exist and I can profit on the back end
in my business as well right so think
bigger in that way
anyways once you've decided on the niche
that's when you would start to research
the product research all that stuff on
Amazon research suppliers it's a process
in that there's the thing with Amazon
I'm gonna be honest with you guys about
this and I'm not just saying this but I
started an Amazon to a course a training
program called the amazing selling
machine both my girlfriend and I started
with it and a lot of my friends have
started with it my brother and people
that have gone on to achieve a lot of
success with it and I think one thing up
learn about this business is there's a
lot of logistics okay there's a lot of
logistics logistics that you're not
going to like it's going to be really
hard for you to figure out on your own
because there's a lot of questions
you're going to have a lot of questions
it's like oh what you know what do
I do about the shipments and the freight
forwarder and what do I do about how do
i how do I pick the right niche I have
these different options about how do I
really know like if I'm going to place
this money on an inventory and get
started with it I got to really know and
make sure that this is a good investment
like this is the right niche for me to
pursue and so you know it's useful to
get feedback on that and maybe have
circular criteria it can follow helps
you think about all these things you
might not have previously thought about
like I see people for example that they
want to start with like you know
tronic and i'm like you don't do it like
there's just I can promise you in an
electronic there's always going to be
some like ones that break or they're not
going to work it's going to lead to
refunds because like they just don't
have the experience to know that you
want to make sure your product doesn't
get refunds and a number of different
things that are involved like I even a
friend for example he launched a water
bottle as a water bottle infuser where
like you put I guess a lemon in the
water bottle and so you're like lemon
water but the problem with the product
was that they had a Khalid
but the lid would like keep smacking
people in the face and so it resulted in
like getting all these negative reviews
on Amazon he had a really hard time
because the product had a flaw and so
these are things like all these
logistical things I hate to say that are
involved in this business that can cost
you that if you don't know what you're
doing we're going to you're going to
drink it destroyed like you're going to
definitely make some costly mistakes
even like when people do giveaways and
promotions like there's so many mistakes
people make I had a friend for example
that unfortunately I'm not trying to
intimidate you guys but he lost a bunch
of inventory because he had a bunch of
coupons so the Hat first product is
listings and what happened was the shady
group of people found a way to get a lot
of his products for free because they
were able to combine a lot of coupons
together and he forgot to set it as like
one coupon per customer or a certain
setting inside his seller central
account and that resulted in him losing
like ten thousand dollars with the
inventory because what happened was once
these people found out the coupon Nadel
he did on his message boards and forums
and once all the orders went through he
couldn't cancel them so like there are
certain things like that that
like again I'm not trying to intimidate
you but it's like you got to know these
things you got it you got to get the
right information the right training to
help you and for me even though I had a
lot of success in business previously
and had already done publishing on
Amazon I still invested in a course
because I wanted to learn how to do it
the right way I never try to reinvent
the wheel I always to learn step by step
by step and I was committed to this as a
business and something that can guide me
from A to Z it has a community I can ask
questions I can help be back support
mentorship etc and so that's why I
invest in the course which was the
amazing selling machine so the question
is my how do you know how do I get for
what's the best way to get started what
I was saying and I say this to anyone
that asked me get a course get a
training get something that can guide
with a teaches away don't try to go
about this on your own and yes
the course costs money information costs
money the right information though is
going to save your money long term it's
going to save your time long term it's
going to save you a lot of stress and
heartache and frustration long term so
it's always worth it and if you're not
willing to invest some money in your
business then maybe business is not for
you I hate to say it but businesses
require money they require some startup
investment from startup sacrifice other
time money whatever that is like
regardless if you want to get packaging
done or a logo that costs money not
unless you're an incredible graphic
designer you can do that great but for
most of us you got to hire someone you
get it invest or someone to do your logo
and create the packaging for your
product you're going to have to invest
some money in some inventory right
whether you're starting small like you
don't need a lot of money for inventory
you can actually start with like a
hundred units you know four four
hundred bucks let's say or even a couple
hundred bucks I'd recommend five hundred
bucks you know ideally but there's
people I know there's sort of it's less
than that but that's what the reality of
business like you know there's not many
businesses out there that don't require
some cost and I often say to people like
if you don't have the money to invest in
your business then it's probably best to
get a job and use our job to make some
money and then save some money and then
take some of the money to save to start
up your business and maybe invest in a
course and a training that can help you
with that I think that's way more
intelligent a much more smarter more
efficient way of going about it I do
know people have taken out loans now
that's totally up to you but just make
sure you know what you're doing there
and everyone has a different risk
tolerance when it comes to things like
that but I know I know people for
example you start a restaurant it's been
$100,000 take a loan for a hundred grand
right district franchise you know so I
know people that do that as well but you
know everyone's got their own different
risk tolerance so I'm not really going
to give advice on that but get a course
get a training program that goes for
anything that you want to learn in life
any new new business that you want to
start treat it like a business take it
seriously don't dabble with things don't
try to reinvent the wheel because that's
what leads people to given up you know
they try to figure it out on their own
they try to watch YouTube videos and
even though I'm trying to give you guys
a lot of value there's nothing that I
can share with you in a youtube video
that's going to come close to what
you're going to learn in a step-by-step
course that's actually showing you
breaking down every step and answering
all the questions you got so you know
YouTube videos a great blog posts are
great message boards are great but the
course is like a process you've got to
trust and invest in and follow through
on and that's why I recommend amazing
selling machine
anyways
with that being said I'll share with you
guys that you want more like free

that they understand that you know you
have a good marketing strategy to you
because creating the product and
launching it is just putting it up on
Amazon is one thing but also knowing how
to optimize it for Amazon knowing how to
optimize your Amazon lift lifting your
product images really important your
bullets your description making sure
that you get traction right away when
you launch the product in terms of
getting reviews and ranking for certain
keywords on Amazon and Amazon PPC right
pay-per-click advertising on Amazon and
also making sure you've got a strategy
for marketing outside of Amazon okay
very important social media other
internet marketing strategies building
an email list all those things are
really really important even or your
autoresponder there's different
software's you can follow up with people
there's allotted a lot of things that
you can really view in this business
which is a lot of a lot of fun and
pretty cool that will that will
definitely help you and then also
knowing the right market to start on
because oftentimes like the United
States is the biggest market and anyone
can sell in the US like I think from 70
countries the biggest countries which is
like 90% of population they can sell on
amazon.com in the United States you
don't have to live there to sell there
but in some cases it might make more
sense for you to launch in Europe if you
live in Europe you know maybe you can
start there
and you know that's that's one thing
where she letting Candida might make
sense to start their queue or if you
live in Japan might make sense you know
there or live in Brazil so really
there's other other factors you want to
factor in that you'd want to think about
when starting this business and and yeah
so that's that I've been granted long
