Hey everyone, Stefan here from projectlifemastery.com and welcome to my office.
As you guys can tell, right now I'm speaking to you guys from my brand new
treadmill desk that I actually got delivered a few weeks ago. Many of you
guys saw on my social media, on my Snapchat and Instagram, when I first got
the treadmill desk, and I’ve been using it every day since. I wanted to wait
because I really wanted to make sure that I've tested it out first and that
I've incorporated it into my life. I can share with you guys the benefits, how it's
enhanced my productivity and my business, how it's improved my health, and whether or not
it's something that I think is worthwhile for you guys to invest in. Now
as many of you guys know, I work online. I've got online businesses, and when you work
online, when you work from home, one of the biggest challenges is that you're
sitting a lot. I'm a pretty fit guy. I work out every day. I've done
fitness competitions, but what really inspired me to invest in a treadmill
desk was actually a book. The book is called Get Up. It's called Get Up!:
Why Your Chair is Killing You and What You Should Do About It. This book, I
forget the author name, but I'll maybe have a link in the video somewhere for it.
The book really inspired me because it was basically this scientist, this
researcher who had done all this research about how sitting is causing so
many health problems. It really blew me away. In fact, in the book, the author makes
a lot of really bold claims. One of them is that for every hour that you
sit, you're cutting off two hours of your life. Pretty bold claim. He also says that
sitting is actually worse for you than smoking, and he has all the research to
back it up.
Actually, initially in this book, he shares how when he was doing this
research, nobody believed him. It's just fascinating how so
many people were so against it. Now there's so much research to go and prove
and support his theories and his research that now there's
things like treadmill desks that exist
or stand-up desks, and there's a lot of different alternatives. I highly
recommend that you read the book. He actually goes into the whole history of the chair,
and how the chair and sitting was something that was more introduced in the
industrial revolution as part of our day-to-day life because the industrial
revolution is when we started to leverage machinery. There’s a lot
less physical labor and so people are now sitting a lot more instead of
actually doing a lot of physical labor. Then when Thomas Edison ... Sorry,
not Thom, Henry Ford, with the automobile industry, how that shifted
things. Because then all of a sudden, human beings were now sitting for
transportation as opposed to walking and moving to get from A to Z.
How in the 1980s, the whole computer revolution with Apple and
Microsoft and IBM and all that how that even shifted things even further because
now all of a sudden, people are sitting for their day-to-day jobs, working behind
the computer. It's just been really fascinating hearing the history and the story of
that. One thing that he also says in the book is that how ...
We live in the United States and Canada, North America, most of the world.
Obesity is such a huge problem. In the United States, 70% of
Americans are now obese. That's insane. One of the biggest reasons
for that is lack of movement because human beings were not made just to sit
all day. Human beings were made to go out, and hunt and gather, and be active,
and move. We live in this lifestyle that we're just not made as human beings
for. We're not made to sit down for hours and hours of the day at a job. We're not
meant to sit down for hours and hours a day watching TV or playing video games.
He even goes how just exercising one hour a day is not
enough. It's not enough. He also has a lot of research how diabetes is related
to sitting because one of the worst things that you should do is when you eat
food, one of the worst things that you should do is sit while and after
you’re eating. Because when you eat food, what happens is your pancreas
releases insulin, your blood sugar spikes, and what happens is basically
the glucose goes into the muscles so that you can have immediate source of
energy. Then anything excess gets stored as fat. Just by moving more
throughout the day and especially right after you eat a meal, that blood sugar
spike cuts in half, and there’s just so many incredible benefits. I highly
recommend read the book, but I'm going to share with you guys a little bit about this treadmill
desk, why I bought this one, what might benefit, what my experience has been. I
did quite a bit of research, and what I found is that LifeSpan Fitness is one of
the best brands for treadmill desks. I did research here in Vancouver,
Canada where I live and there is not a lot of places that locally sell it.
There's one that sell this desk, but they were charging a ridiculous
amount of money for it. I actually decided to buy it online. I bought it
direct through their website, and they had free shipping in the United States and Canada,
and they shipped it within I think a few days or something
like that. It was pretty quick. This one here ... There's different models. I'll have
a link in the description of the model that I have. This model has the
treadmill and it has the desk and the desk is electronic in terms of the height
adjustment. For example, I can adjust and bring this desk down. I can bring it
up. Actually, I paid a little bit extra for this feature, but if you're
using it for a treadmill desk, and you're using it
every day, you really don't need to spend the extra money for this adjustable feature.
Because for me, I always keep it at the same height. It would be useful to have
this electronic if you're planning on standing and then adjusting it to sitting,
but I have another desk for sitting. For me, that was something a little
bit unnecessary, it's cool to have. This one here, it goes anywhere from ...
Right now, I'm at one mile per hour,
and it can go down to 0.4 miles per hour. This is 0.4 miles per hour right here.
You hardly even notice it. I can go up to 4 miles per hour, which is actually
like a little bit of a jog, and I'll show you guys that real quick. This is 4
miles per hour. Got to start jogging a little bit. You know what? There
hasn't been much of an adjustment period because like a lot of people ... One
objection people have is that, okay, if I get this, it's going to be harder for me
to do work. It's actually the opposite.
What I found is that I've been more productive because when you're actually
moving and you’re breathing, you're taking in more oxygen. What happens is it activates
different parts of your brain. You feel more alert, you feel more focused, you feel
more energetic. My experience has been I feel more productive as I'm
working. Right here, at one mile per hour, if
this is too much for you, you can always go down to 0.4 miles per hour, and do
your work, and you hardly even notice it. It's like you're taking a step every
second or two. I found that the transition to it was very easy, very fast.
Like I said, it's really radically shifted my energy throughout
the day. I find that when you're sitting,
that's when you actually get more tired. I'm not sure if you can relate, but if
you've ever been sitting when you're working, usually you'll slouch.
It's bad for your posture, you might get tired. For me, I like to be moving.
If I'm on the phone, I like to be walking and moving because I'll be in a
better state. The same thing goes when I'm working. I've been
able to do all types of work just like this, usually again around one mile per
hour. I can do writing, I can do a blog post, I can do my e-mails. I do a
lot of Skype calls and webinars and stuff like that now
just as I'm walking. The cool thing about this treadmill
desk is it tells me here
how long I've been walking for, the total distance that I've walked, the
total number of steps, the total number of
calories that I've burned. It can store everything with Bluetooth as well. I
can store everything to my phone. It's really cool because every day, I'm
walking for several hours. As a result of that, like I said, I feel better.
Also, my body's been shifting as well because I'm burning so many more
calories. I'm getting leaner. I feel like I'm multitasking in a
way because I'm doing exercise as I'm building my business. It's a pretty
cool thing. It's a pretty cool feeling. I always believe that the best
investments that you can make are obviously always in yourself, but
especially around things that you use every single day. The best
investments that I've ever made in my life have been my water machine, my water
ionizer because I drink tons of water every day. Those things that every little
day, those little things, when they become a part of your life, transforms your
health, your energy, everything. I've got shower filters, a special shower
filter. You should take a shower every day. Filters out all the chlorine,
all the metals. Changes the water to be a certain pH, is great for
the skin. That’s one of the best investments ever made. This one right
here is probably the top one or two as well because I realize how
much my time is spent sitting each day. Now by having
this, it’s just totally transformed everything for me over the last few
weeks and will continue to transform the rest of my life. It’s a
little bit expensive, but actually not too bad.
This one I think was 1700 bucks and you can get for ... I
think you have down to 1500 bucks, but man that’s such a small price to pay for
something that’s going to make such a huge impact in your life. For me, it's just
a no-brainer to invest in something like this because once you read this
book especially, I don't know how you can continue sitting once you
know the research and the information and
the effects of it. Now that I have this and I use it every day, going
back to sitting is like insane. You know what I mean? If you’ve ever had the
experience where you upgraded your lifestyle to a certain way and then if
you ever had to go back, it’s never going to happen. It’s like if you have a cell
phone,
going back to having no cell phone is just unacceptable because you’re
now adapted to all the benefits that having a cell phone provides.
For me it's been an incredible investment. I love it. It really shaped my
life and really made a difference. Yeah, guys, then this is it. This is the
next level in terms of optimizing your life, and especially if you're in a
position like me. If you guys want to learn more about it, I’ll have a link
below in the description to the specific model that I have.
I’ll have it on the blog post and everything as well, but highly recommend one guys.
Like I said, I use it every day. It’s part of my life now. It’s
awesome. I love it. It's something that I can't live without.
Check it out guys. Highly recommend it. Highly recommend LifeSpan. They're great.
I’ve done a lot of the research and everything on them. Really great company.
Great communication. They've got I think a guarantee and stuff like that
as well. Yeah, they're great to order from online. Free delivery.
Everything's been great. Thank you guys for watching the video. Make sure to
