I’m Losing My Job And I’m Scared



hi Stefan due to me not achieving my
sales kpi's at work over a period of
time I've been obliged
I've been obliged to take more than 25%
pay cut and still be expected to work as
hard there's no guarantee that my pay
will increase again even if my figures
improve I have been with the company for
a long time and definitely feel that
this is a demotion other people within
the organisation who haven't been there
for nearly as long as I are also
leapfrogging me and stand to gain by
what has happened
I have lost significant confidence both
at work and home and feel both very
upset and disappointed I would welcome
your advice on how to deal with this
event both in the short term and also in
the longer term a how do I fight back
and improve sales B what happens if I
can't improve enough and just get left
behind with an organisation ok great
question alright so first of all
understand when you work for a company
the company is a separate entity than
yourself is even separate than the
business owner the company and and the
owners of the company and the directors
of the company management of the company
they're doing what's best for the
company which for the the company to
grow to make more money so that it can
reach more people make more of an impact
and generate more sales at the end of
the day that's what their goal is and
they're hiring you to help support that
goal to support this mission that this
entity this company has and the reality
is is that if you're not contributing to
that ok and especially in terms of what
they're paying you you're not providing
the value for that that that that that
can help grow the company then you're
gonna be expendable they might find
someone else that could do that instead
or if they're paying you a certain
amount why would they keep you when they
can give that same amount of money to
someone else that might be performing
better that can help support the
business and grow it because in some
cases you might not be supporting that
and that's hard to hear but that's just
the way that business works out the way
the world works
so understand that in order for you to
get paid more you have to provide more
value to give more value to the company
to make the month the company more money
to serve the company more you're gonna
have to grow you're gonna have to grow
you're gonna have to step up you're
gonna have to become more value
okay the more value that you provide the
more that you can get paid the more
you'll get rewarded for it the reason
why it seems like you got demoted you
just weren't performing you know you
weren't providing the valium that's just
the reality again it's hard to hear that
but that's the truth the truth will set
you free right we can't ignore the truth
and tell ourselves stories to feel good
in the moment we got to pierce through
that and penetrate and get right to the
truth so that we can use this to grow
from it so number one use this as an
opportunity to grow okay this is a
blessing for you use it as motivation
Michael Jordan got cut from his varsity
basketball team because he wasn't good
enough and he used that as motivation to
come back the next year even better and
he became the best basketball player
throughout history because of that one
event this could be a tipping point for
you a moment in your life that
everything changes if you decide to use
it as motivation to fuel you to grow and
become better so what I would do is use
this as motivation master sales if
that's what you're you really want to
master master it read books on it study
it go through sales trainings immerse
yourself whatever the number of calls
that other people are making double that
every day the more doors who knock the
more that will open watch the movie The
Pursuit of Happyness by Will Smith and
see how hungry that he was and how he
realized that by actually putting down
the phone he's making sales calls and
actually holding it up and not putting
it down he can get more sales calls in a
day
than his other peers were and he got
more rewarded by that so that's how you
got to think you've got to be hungry and
committed because the world of sales is
a cutthroat industry in business and if
you're not producing then you're gonna
get replaced that's the reality of it
that's just the reality of sales and
that's the reality of life I mean
Charles Darwin shared how it's not the
strongest or the smartest of the species
that survives is he who is the the the
he who is the most adaptable to change
that person that is adaptable survives
you've got to adapt if you don't adapt
you get weeded out by evolution okay so
that's the number one thing number two
is if you can't improve enough and you
get left behind and that's the reality
of the situation the rowdy is a lot of
people that have jobs right now are
going to be out a job soon because with
automation and technology and artificial
intelligence all of these things that
are coming if you're not preparing for
it and you're not working on yourself
and developing skills you will get left
behind you will get left behind that's
why you've got to work harder on
yourself than you do on anything else
you got to grow and improve and develop
yourself if you want to be relevant and
always have opportunities available for
you to make money so you've got to make
sure that you're working on yourself and
if you can't improve enough and get left
behind then you're gonna have to find a
new job that's a reality of it and again
the company companies they're gonna
replace people that aren't performing
with people that are performing that's
just the nature of business nothing
personal it's just business I mean if
you got a professional sports team
you're trying to make your team better
you're you know you're gonna get rid of
the the people that aren't as good and
fit in as well and aren't producing with
someone else that can so that your team
can win you can't hold on to that
person's because you like them that's
going to bring down the whole team so
those are the decisions have to be made
in business so that's why you have to
step up and produce I don't know if
sales is the right role for you or not
maybe maybe it is maybe it isn't
and that's something you got to figure
out and decide as well
