My Hair Loss Story | Going Bald Early Advice

hey everyone this is stefan from
projectlifemastery.com and today i'm
going to share with you guys a little
bit about my hair loss experience and
story to me shaving my head bald as you
guys know me to be now for the last few
years I know there's a lot of men out
there that have asked me throughout the
years to do a video on this because
you're going through what I went through
which is hair loss balding you might be
watching this right now as a man and
your hair is thinning maybe a receding
hairline or maybe their crown is
thinning and I know exactly what you're
going through I know what it's like I
know the insecurities that you might
feel or just the overall suffering and
agony because for a lot of men it could
be traumatizing because so much of who
you are your identity and how you appear
and present yourself to the world and to
yourself is how you look and your hair
is a big part of that and often times
we're so attached to that and it's
something that could be outside your
control and with something so let's add
your control and it makes you feel
self-conscious and insecure it can
really affect your life it could I know
it affected me in a big way just my
confidence my communication with the
opposite sex with other people and just
on a daily basis is really affecting me
and for those of you that are going
through that or might know someone
that's going through that I want to
speak to you right now and share with
you my story that you can maybe relate
to and where I'm at today with that
being free of having to really worry
about that the solution that that works
for me
so let's backtrack a little bit of
history I probably started losing my
hair a little bit in my early 20s maybe
when I was 20 21 years old at a pretty
early age and you know before then and
throughout my 20s I always styled my
hair I used different gels and different
products and did different hair styles
but what I found was that over time my
hair was just thinner and thinner I just
kind of thought well maybe my hair is
just always kind of naturally been thin
and I didn't really see hair loss as a
possibility for me because my dad has a
full set of hair and my grandparents I
also have a full set of hair because
I've heard that it can kind of skip the
generation or grandparents so I didn't
really think you know that I would
actually end up having to deal with that
but as time went on I just knows
my hair getting thinner and thinner and
I started mainly noticing it around my
hairline having a receding hairline and
that affected my ability to really style
my hair and stuff and so as time went on
I I tried to hide it you know I try to
style my hair in different ways and I
started feeling more insecure about it
and you know I I no idea that my crown
also was also thinning as well it wasn't
till actually I saw I think a picture or
something and I noticed it and I was
like oh my god and just remember how
depressing I felt it was to kind of be
aware of that and just you know how I
looked and I again I just tried to style
my hair in different ways to mask it and
it just got worse and worse over the
years you know throughout my 20s and I
looked for different solutions and so I
ended up going I remember to a
dermatologist and you go to a
dermatologist and of course they want to
prescribe different drugs to you so you
know one of the drugs was Rogaine which
i think is forget what what the
ingredient is but you know you can now
buy it buy it at most most stores or
pharmacies but road grant Rogaine which
basically helps to regrow hair so it
doesn't really prevent it it just house
with hair growth and I remember having
to use this Rogaine I think two or three
times a day and just the smell of it and
I've always been someone that's really
into health and I try to avoid chemicals
putting that to my body because I know
the consequence isn't the effect that
that can have the body doesn't know how
to deal with it and so having to put
that on my head every single day
I knew long-term it wasn't really
aligned with the holistic approach that
I tend to take with health but it did
help it did help a bit I did notice that
I had smaller strands of hair regrow but
unfortunately it wasn't helping enough
to really solve the problem and it
wasn't really addressing the root cause
of it either so it was kind of like it
wasn't really a sustainable solution for
me you know having to use rogain every
single day but i did that for years for
years I used Rogaine it was expensive I
think it's way cheaper now which is
crazy but I remember at the time when I
was buying it was fairly expensive
and then you know I still wasn't you
know getting you know it wasn't really
helping the way that I wanted it to so I
ended up going back to the dermatologist
and they actually prescribed to me
propecia which is a pill that I'd have
to take a drug every day and that also
was very expensive I remember I don't
know how much it is now but we're taking
that every day and now actually helps to
helps to basically prevent the hair loss
and I took that I think for maybe six
months to a year and it did help you
know it did help a bit but again it
wasn't like this magical solution that
really solved everything for me it
wasn't sustainable either because again
I didn't you know wanted to take a drug
for the rest of my life a pill and I
knew the effects that could have on my
health as well and and what really
actually made a shift for me I remember
at the time I was in San Diego I was
living in a hostel at the time and I was
doing research and I actually noticed
some side-effects I just really couldn't
explain what they were but I I notice I
was being a little bit I felt a little
more depressed and my libido was a lot
less as well and I actually did research
online actually found a community like a
message board of people that had been
taking propecia and and and drugs like
that for hair loss for men and like
there's a whole community and movement
that was against it you know because of
how it's actually ruined and affect a
lot of people's lives and I remember his
reading these the forum threads and
there's websites on it and stuff and
about how people that had been
prescribed for patience was idle
thoughts erectile dysfunction lack of
motivation and and just all these
negative effects low energy and when I
discovered that I I freaked out I was
like oh my god I have to get off this
right now because a lot of people the
effects were irreversible as well that
David had gone off of it and the
symptoms that was the side effects still
continued
and you know I just read all these
different horror stories about it and I
just research heard it more and more and
I just made a decision you know what
this is not a long-term sustainable
solution for me I felt like I just had
to stop and I did and if you are in that
position you could research I don't know
if I don't remember the forums and stuff
but it is worth going deeper into the
effects of these drugs and how it might
be affecting your life because for me
you know the you know the the benefit
that that drug was giving me was not
worth the side effects of the depression
and the low energy and low motive all
that negative effects that came with it
was not worth a few extra strands of
hair you know and trying to prolong
something that is inevitably gonna you
know go away anyways because as I just
knew as I got older you know it was just
gonna get worse and worse and worse my
hair so I fully went off of that I think
there's a certain protocol for getting
off you don't want to get off right away
you kind of want to lower the dose and
break up your tablets a little bit to
get off of it but once I got off of it I
was like you know I just feel so much
better now and I think you know I didn't
have any negative effects thankfully
thankfully but um what happened was you
know sure enough I got off of that as
well as the Rogaine and my hair got
worse so my hair was thinning more and
more again the insecurities that I had
around that at the time I was single so
I was trying to you know go out meet
women and date and all that sort of
stuff too and I just remember it
affected me in a big way and I think one
of the worst things I remember is I
always styled my hair I had to style my
hair a certain way to kind of try to
cover up you know the the bald spots and
whenever I'd go outside and like the
wind would just like ruin my hair and it
would expose you know expose like my
receding hairline or like if I put on a
hat it would just like hey that's game
over my hair is now ruined I just
remember the insecurities that I had at
the time in my early 20s going through
that and what actually ended up
happening is you know as time gone on I
was getting worse and worse but I was
actually in the relationship with this
girl and
you know I remember just kind of like
sharing this with her and at the time
you know I was also going through a lot
of self-development and spiritual growth
and I realized how much this was
affecting my life the attachment to it
because often times we have attachments
choose to these external things we
identify it as part of who we are and
that might be your car it might be your
house it might be being successful or
having a certain amount of money it
might be having a man or a woman into
your life it might be your identity is
caught up in a title such as being a
doctor or a student or this person or
that person or how other people perceive
you and I realized and learned the
negative effects from that about how
when you grow spiritually it's really
about being less attached to external
things and how these things they end up
owning us if you ever seen Fight Club or
read the book you know the things that
we own end up owning us and so I
actually made a decision I was like you
know what I should just shave my head
you know and I should do it not
necessarily for a solution for my
balding but I should actually do it for
self growth purposes because I wanted to
challenge myself I wanted to grow I knew
that by me getting rid of my hair you
know I would have to confront this
insecurity that I have I would have to
learn how to create confidence that was
not situational because my confidence at
the time was dependent on things like my
hair how I look and that's not real
confidence real confidence is you're
confident in who you are regardless of
how you look you could wake up you know
out of bed and still feel confident you
should never feel have your confidence
your self esteems to be so dependent on
how you look or whether you're running
makeup or you know your body or whatever
because there's some people that are so
comfortable in their skin and they're
just so confident in who they are they
don't need anything external and so I
knew it was something that I needed to
do for that reason because this was
something that I had to confront
I had to face it I had to you know say
you know what I need to go to another
level here and this has been in control
in my life long enough
got dissatisfied I hit a threshold I
said you know what I'm gonna shave it
off and you know it wasn't really that
big of a deal I mean it was at the time
but part of me knew you know what I
could always grow it back that's a great
thing about it right it's not permanent
that within a few months my hair would
grow back and it would just be an
experiment that I do and by the end of
it yeah I might you know lose my hair
but be bald but and I might look
horrible but by doing so I'll be a
better person and what actually made it
a little bit more challenging at the
time is I was also doing YouTube videos
and many of you guys might remember me
on youtube if you go back to my earlier
videos back in 2012-2013 I had hair and
all of a sudden one day on YouTube you
know my subscribers see me bald and
without hair and so that was something
in the back of my mind as well is okay
now it's not like I just have to you
know do this and just the people my life
and I'm also someone who's putting
themself out there has subscribers and
followers social media whatnot that they
were also go now notice this and judge
me for it as well so that kind of made a
little bit harder than probably what a
lot of people might have to go through
with it but I said you know what I'm
gonna own it I'm gonna do it
and I remember I shaved my head and I
was shocked with how I look just how you
normally are when you have a drastic
change you look yourself in the mirror
and you're like oh my god you look so
different you got to adapt to looking at
yourself in that way as well as my
girlfriend at the time too and I
remember after that you know whenever
I'd see my friends or family it was all
so they had to adapt to it as well so of
course they would notice it they would
say something but what actually really
shifted me with it was what I felt free
I felt less controlled by this thing you
know I just felt like you know I don't
have to worry about this anymore now and
I didn't know I didn't think I really
looked particularly good bald but what
actually happened that that really
shifted it for me as well is that I
didn't get any negativity around it you
know I didn't my friends and family they
didn't say anything negative and of
course you actually look you don't look
good initially because you have weird
tan line like your face is tanned
then your head is like really pale so it
doesn't look good in that sense and you
might have different bumps on your head
and stuff that you weren't aware of but
I didn't get any negativity around it
and especially when I was on YouTube
that was the most surprising thing
because you know YouTube as you guys
probably know you watched YouTube videos
is that because people are anonymous on
YouTube you get more negativity people
just say inappropriate things and crazy
stuff all the time and so I was
expecting some neg you know negativity
or people saying you look you know dumb
or why did you shave your head or
whatever it was but I didn't get that at
all in fact I ended up getting some
compliments from people it actually made
me like wow this is cool
and sure enough I adapted to it and I
actually found that I actually looked
better you know I found that I feel more
confident I think it's changed my look
in a lot of ways and I think also
understanding that it's it's actually
not uncommon you know for me I remember
at the time is like a big deal for me
because I have that attachment but then
when I look at it now I see bald people
everywhere and I see of all people
everywhere that I go there's a lot of
men that shaved their head as well
and not only that there's a lot of
celebrities that have done it too you
know whether it's doing the rock Johnson
too Vin Diesel - Bruce Bruce Willis -
you know a lot of different celebrities
Michael Jordan and a lot of people that
we look up to you that I've also shaved
their head and look great it's almost
like it's it's like a sex symbol thing
now where there's actually people that
are more attracted to people that look
that way and I think it also kind of
give me a more masculine masculine look
as well and especially because I can you
know keep my facial hair and stuff got
my own kind of look for doing that too
and so it ended up being a decision that
I made that was one of the best
decisions that I've made and you know it
really freed me in my life from that
insecurity but also has helped me become
way more confident much more confident
as a man to not be dependent on
something as silly as as
and having that affect me and so if
you're watching this right now and your
hair is thinning and you're going
through this as well but my advice to
you would be this one is you got to find
sustainable solutions and I wasn't able
to find it you know I tried natural
supplements I dried the pills and the
drugs I actually went to a consultation
for a hair transplant as well at one
point as I was just so insecure and it
really affected member Tom's I was just
so depressed over losing my hair then I
went to a place for a hair transplant
consultation but I realized that's not
even sustainable because yeah they're
gonna take you know your your hair
follicles and put it you know different
posture here but you're gonna still lose
your hair so you're gonna have patches
and there's a certain point where they
can't take more to be able to you know
fill in all the different patches
they're gonna have to continue to have
as you lose your hair so for me like
that wasn't even a long-term solution
for it and I think so so look for a
long-term solution I don't know what's
available now maybe there are things
that can help prolong it or help prevent
it I'm not sure it's worth looking into
that but number two is it might be
worthwhile for you to shave your head
not necessarily for how you're gonna
look but to grow as a human being to
improve your confidence to purposely do
it in a way just as a way just for you
to learn how to be comfortable with
yourself and confident and free yourself
from the insecurities and not be so
caught up and dependent on your hair
being something that determines your
self-esteem because I realize that that
that is sad that's pathetic you know
that Who I am is so much of its
dependent on something like hair so
that's something that is worth exploring
and I'm not here to tell you to do that
that's obviously outdoor decision your
choice but it ended up being the right
decision for me something I'm so
grateful for and you know it's really
impacted and changed my life for the
better and let me just be more happy
more confident so that for me has been a
long-term sustainable solution
you know might be worth looking into you
it's very common a lot of people do it
and it might be something that you love
and you're happy with that could really
you know end up really changing a life
for the better so that's my story guys
that's my experience if you're going

shaved your head I'd love to hear your
experience leave a comment below this
