Your Lack Of Patience, Distractions & "Shiny Object Syndrome" Are Killing Your Results

the main one for me is lack of patience
shiny object syndrome I I will dive into
something I'm super excited in the
implementation phase and then I
something else that seems like it could
be I could get there quicker or see
results after a zip over there and then
just languishes and then I sit over
there and let slip over there and so you
know I look fat I have literally gone
you name something I've probably done it
anyone else relate to this now for being
honest and myself to including me and
that rynek thing is is that when you
jump from thing that's in you'd actually
you think that eventually you know you'd
find a better opportunity or whatnot but
if you had just stuck with that one
thing you would actually be further
ahead and the person that's jumping from
one thing to the next to the next a good
way of looking at this this is you right
here okay you're on the edge of the
cliff you want to get to over here so
what you do is you start building a
bridge right you start learning a new
way of making money a new business
opportunity whether it's Amazon awesome
and you know people like myself or
people you might look up to marketers
entrepreneurs companies they're always
marketing product services that are you
know they're all greats they're all
useful they can all help you so you get
excited and anytime there's something
new we love novelty especially people
that are more dabblers because when you
get something new that's initial rush
that you get the excitement you get from
that there's new possibilities that
exist your learning curve is like this
for example maybe at first you want to
learn a new sport and at first you're
brand new it's your learning curve is
like this you make progress in a day
like I remember I took up snowboarding
last year and I maybe went once or twice
before but it's like you know I really
want to get into this and when I first
put on the snowboard I was just like so
awkward uncomfortable as falling down
and I barely made it down the bunny hill
and then when I went back the second
time I was like I actually got fell down
less and I had made more progress so I'm
already making progress I'm feeling
wow this is awesome getting better and
then the more times that you do it your
acceleration is just like that but then
inevitably what happens is you hit a
plateau the newness wears off and you
think you know it snowboarding is great
but maybe there's this new activity
skiing or maybe it's a new activity and
you jump from one thing to the next to
the next because you're always craving
that newness and that excitement and so
you might start a business whether it's
Amazon you start making progress with it
you're learning about it and it's great
but then all of a sudden you discover
something new whether it's someone
that's offering it to you or mentioning
it or you hear about it and hear about
that person that is faster that's easier
and it's the same thing that happens in
the weight loss industry people started
diets but if they just follow through on
it it's get the results but they find a
new diet or a new thing so you do it you
abandon it and then you find something
else start building that as well maybe a
little bit further and then there's a
new opportunity that exists and again it
could be Facebook advertising SEO you
know a new opportunity in business and
before you know it you've got all these
half built bridges but you never make it
to the other side and if you just focus
on one until completion you put the
blinders on and you say I am going to
build this until I get there even though
if it might not be perfect even though
if there's a better bridge that can be
built a faster way a more profitable
what whatever it is you're going to make
sure that you follow through and
complete that and this is actually a
very important habit you've got to
develop now and early because as you
become more successful there's more
opportunities that arise for me I get
opportunity every day you know my
facebook messages emails up you know
partnerships all these things and you
know what they're all great and I have
no doubt that all of them can make me
money I'd have no doubt that all of them
would benefit my life in some way but
there's no humanly possible way that I
can do them all and part of me knows
that these are in many ways will be
distractions to what my ultimate purpose
is so what I've found that works for me
maybe some of you guys can share in a
bit too but what has worked for me is
really knowing what my vision is
okay I know what my vision is for my
life I know what my vision is for my
business project life master I know the
direction that I'm going and I don't
care what else comes up for it might be
a better opportunity make money or
whatever it is but I will not compromise
my vision over something something else
so for me you know if I'm working on a
certain project and really excited for
it something else can come along that
can make me more money but if it's going
to take away from my vision long term
even a short term they can provide for
me or short term you know it can make a
difference in my life long term it's
going to compromise my vision in some
way now that that's not to say that at
times you know there are opportunities
that come up by use going to be more
strategic about it and be able to look
at it from a place of okay is this to
strapped a distraction right now is this
going to prevent me from moving forward
with this or is it legitimately a better
opportunity and maybe I could switch
gears to be flexible sometimes it can be
useful to be able to be adaptive right
because sometimes maybe you're doing
something and it's not working but at
the same time you've got to give it a
chance and so what I found at times is
committing to something for a period of
time and telling yourself I will only do
this and master it for the next six
months or the next year and I've got to
make sure that I finish the race before
starting a new one I think it's just
having that discipline with yourself
I'll give you an example of something
that I had that was a bit of a
distraction but I did a good job of
eliminating it so this is a few years
ago and I had done my Kindle publishing
my key money mastery courses I was doing
really well teaching that and I still do
with a lot of people that you know get
great success and results with that but
deep down anything for myself you know
what if I only did this in my life for
me I'd be a failure I just knew I had
bigger gifts and self-development I
could help keep on a much bigger scale
in their lives and there's a part of me
that yes you know I'm making money doing
this and it's great but I wasn't really
fulfilled by it and so I wanted to
branch off and focus on some new
projects things I was more passionate
about and I can still bring me money and
help me achieve my goals but I'd just be
more excited for it and so I was working
on this new project and I was kind of
getting away from it though
the publishing and teaching that even
though there's way more opportunity for
me to focus on that because I've already
built a business and got customers there
makes more sense to I can maximize the
profit of that business before starting
something brand new and then came this
opportunity a friend of mine Dan Locke
came to me and he very successful person
and he said hey I've got a guy who can
do wants to partner with you I'll set up
the deal for you guys and he's a top pop
marketer out there he can do a promotion
for you that could be worth hundreds of
thousands if not millions of dollars and
you'd have to partner with him and you
know this is what he had in mind is kind
of selling some for a thousand two
thousand dollars as training and I'd be
the one teaching it and everything and
he'd help with the marketing of it and I
got really excited I was like oh wow
this is an amazing opportunity I wish I
had this years before and I never did
the call with them and I was like kind
of agreeing to it initially because I
was like yeah this definitely makes
sense but then a part of me knew I said
you know I yes I'll make a lot of money
doing this but if you have the expense
of my mission my purpose my happiness my
plan the vision that I have for my
business and so I had to deny and I was
actually really relieved once I did and
proud of myself for just sticking to
what I felt was just you know what I
want like just being the kind of person
that was just sticking to my commitments
and even you know I always kind of see
it as yes this could be a good
opportunity maybe I'll make more money
but I'll still do well and make great
amount of money doing this and it's
really sticking with that following
through and what you said you're going
to do and doing it so that's something
that's personally helped me and now
today what happens is because there's so
many opportunities I I honestly I I
invest in a lot of courses and trainings
but I only focus on usually one or two
at a time okay so for me if there's an
opportunity that does exist
I'll say yes but just not now okay yes I
want to do this business but just not
now so I might buy the training
for example like two years ago I bought
this training on webinars and I was like
yeah I need to do webinars webinars the
thing and so I bought it and it was like
300 bucks but then I said okay you know
what I'm going to buy it but it doesn't
mean that I got to go through it now
right now I'm gonna focus on learning
this right now I'm going to focus my
time and my attention on this and then
that will be ready and available for me
when I'm ready for it and the same way
what I do now is I also buy a lot of
books I have my Kindle the other day I
bought 20 books because any books that
are recommended to me I just buy like I
just and doesn't mean I'm going to read
them all at once because then if I try
to read all these books at the same time
or finally read half the book of this
book and then switch to that when it
never completed the book so I buy all of
them I've got books on my Kindle five
years ago that I'm just starting to read
now today so I just like to have them on
that bookshelf
their book something to read over the
course of my lifetime you know I'd be 20
years from now but I always try to
discipline myself and say okay this is
where my time my energy my focus is
dedicated to and then here's the other
thing if you said you're going to do
something you don't do it how do you
know that you can believe yourself the
next time that you're going to complete
it as well so every time you commit to
something you do it for a little bit you
don't do it you're starting to create
the pattern and then what happens is now
when you see a new opportunity or new
goal you're just say yeah I'm going to
do it but there's a part of you in the
back of your mind that already knows
that you're not going to complete it you
know can you guys relate to that have
you ever had times where you set goals
said you're going to do this I'm going
to go on this diet I'm going to work out
you didn't you know got excited for it
you did it for a little while then you
stopped and then you found a new diet a
new program new workout program you do
that for a little while and then you
stop and then a new one and then but you
know by that the tenth one you're like
you know I'm not even a bother because I
already know that I'm not going to
follow through and complete it so now
you're letting your past dictate your
future so that's why I've learned it's
just really important you know you know
one thing a mentor said is that how you
do anything is how you do everything all
the little things building the habit of
completing things finishing what you
start
and setting a goal and saying hey you
know what this is why I'm going to focus
on this fourth for the next six months
the next year and I'll share one more
story it was from the book the
entrepreneur rollercoaster I believe or
maybe the compound effect by Darren
Hardy he shared a story of Richard
Branson the founder aversion someone
contacted Richard Branson and said hey
we want to have you speak at our event
actually contacted his assistant and
said we're willing to pay you $50,000 to
come and speak and the assistant
responded back and said no sorry
you know Richard's not available and
they were really determined they came
back and said we're willing to offer
Richard seventy-five thousand dollars
come speak for one hour and the
assistant came back no sorry is not
available so they just figure is going
to keep offering you money offered a
hundred thousand dollars same same
response
eventually the assistant responded back
no amount of money that you offer is
going to have Richard come and speak
because right now Richard's really
focused on this one core outcome and he
does not want to be distracted by
anything else even if it is a better
opportunity even if he can make whatever
amount of money he knows what he is
doing is more important and if you jump
ships and does that he is just repeating
a cycle which is not really going to
serve
